All across the lands of Northrend, many battles have been fought against the vile Scourge. Countless lives have been lost since the Alliance and Horde first reached the frozen wastes, but the champions of Azeroth continue to march forward. Now Icecrown Citadel, the cornerstone of the Scourge's power and the home base of the Lich King, is their final target. Tirion Fordring and the Argent Crusade have forged an alliance with Darion Mograine and the Knights of the Ebon Blade to form the Ashen Verdict. The strongest combatants of this coalition, along with the champions of the Alliance and Horde, will lead the charge against the citadel.

This dungeon reveals the culminating story events and battles of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack. Join the legendary heroes Highlord Tirion Fordring, High Overlord Saurfang, Muradin Bronzebeard, Highlord Darion Mograine, and King Varian Wrynn in an epic battle against the Scourge and their master. Icecrown Citadel features 10- and 25-player versions of the raid dungeon, and each version has 12 encounters. Each encounter can be fought in either normal or Heroic mode, and players can use a new user interface feature to toggle easily between difficulties. The rewards in the raid dungeon start at item level 251 in the normal mode with 10-player encounters, increase to item level 264 in the Heroic mode mode with 10 players and the normal mode with 25-player encounters, and then finally reach item level 277 in the Heroic mode with 25 players.

Grand Entrance of the Citadel
After breaching the fortress, players will face a legion of undead guards directed to repel any invaders. Commanding the defenders is Lord Marrowgar, a monstrosity fused together from the bones of the undead. Supreme Overseer of the Cult of the Damned, Lady Deathwhisper is the next opponent. She bolsters the faith of her followers by promising them the opportunity to give eternal service in undeath.

As they continue their ascent, the Alliance and Horde heroes ultimately end up outside of the citadel where their hatred for one another erupts into a battle for dominance over the Rampart of Skulls. Players will join in battle alongside High Overlord Saurfang on the Orgrim's Hammer gunship or Muradin Bronzebeard on The Skybreaker in a unique encounter. Each faction will protect its gunship and try to destroy the other one in a back-and-forth battle to see who is truly worthy of facing the Lich King.

The Lich King's most powerful death knight then stands as the final obstacle for the heroes to enter the upper reaches of the citadel.

The Wings of Icecrown Citadel
After the heroes of the Alliance or Horde defeat the other faction on the gunships and wipe out the creatures near the entrance, players will venture into an area with three separate wings. Here they will face a multitude of terrors that must be vanquished in order to confront the Lich King.

In the Frostwing Halls players will battle alongside the Ashen Verdict and push into the lair of the deadly frost wyrm Sindragosa, who continues to strengthen her brood with the help of Ymirheim's vrykul. Along the way, the heroes will stumble upon Valithria Dreamwalker, a captured green dragon whom the Scourge is using as a test subject for their own ends....

The Plagueworks contains the most twisted experiments ever produced by the Scourge. In this wing players will face two new forms of abomination in Festergut and Rotface, who currently protect their devious creator, Professor Putricide.

The Crimson Hall contains the leaders of the San'layn, undead blood elves who oversee the Scourge's operations throughout Azeroth. The blood-princes Valanar, Keleseth, and Taldaram were raised into undeath by the Lich King to avenge themselves while protecting their blood-queen, Lana'thel.

The Frozen Throne
After clearing all three wings, players will ascend to the Frozen Throne, where the Lich King and his runeblade, Frostmourne, await to deliver them to their deaths....

 

Random Notes:

This guy has since been removed from the game files.   Suspected to be the Immolated Champion that you see in Yogg's brain so will turn up in the Arthas fight, maybe.

Be wary, for this is the final spoiler for the end of Wrath.

 

The obvious choice was made.    Well, this kinda strikes me as Diablo-esque now.   But the thing I'd thought they'd do didn't occur, that is, the new Lich King being a force against Deathwing.   Oh well, but I suppose this will make it possible for a return as a villain somewhere down the lore (not neccessarily in WoW), when the jailor can no longer hold back the darkness...

Progression Spoiler

I'm posting what Blizz said on how they're gating Icecrown.   Gist of it...

  1. There's 4 "wings", so they're releasing them one at a time (my guess 1 month inbetween each cause it's not ToC 1 boss a week, there's up to 4 in each)
  2. The "main" 3 wings with the main bosses at the end will have an attempt system.  Putricide when first released will only allow 5 attempts.   Additional wings added will increase attempts allowed to by 5 each.   This lasts until everything is released and Blizz decides it's time to remove it.
  3. No special rewards for having high amount of attempts remaining, or not dying
  4. Heroic Modes can only be accessed after defeating Normal Mode Lich King once.
  5. Heroic Lich King mode can only be accessed if the 3 end bosses of each wing are defeated in heroic
  6. Over time, there'll be a zone wide buff, guess after attempt system goes down.   Similar to that Sunwell thing when the Isle was taken, but better.

 

Also, this kinda makes me thinkg Icecrown (3.3) will come sooner than later.   They're upping the testing pace.   And with this gated system, all they have to do is release their first wing, while the PTR tests the rest of the instance.     Well, just have to see.   I think mid-december atm.

 

 

Icecrown Citadel testing has been progressing very well over the last
few weeks, and this has been a huge help to the encounter design team.
We want to thank everyone who has logged onto the PTR and tried the
encounters there.

As we're now getting closer to the release of
3.3.0, we wanted to talk about our plans for access progression within
Icecrown Citadel. Icecrown Citadel is going to be broken up into four
distinct sections: The Lower Spire, Plagueworks, Crimson Hall, and
Frostwing Halls. We plan on releasing these four sections of Icecrown
Citadel over time and not all immediately when patch 3.3.0 goes live.
At this point we can't give precise dates for these release dates as
they are determined by when patch 3.3.0 goes live. Once dates are known
with more certainty, I'll update the community so they can plan
appropriately.

The first section that opens will include the
Lord Marrowgar, Lady Deathwhisper, Icecrown Gunship Battle, and
Deathbringer Saurfang encounters. Progress beyond that point will be
prevented for several weeks. Then the Plagueworks will open with
Rotface, Festergut, and Professor Putricide becoming available. After
another period of time, the Crimson Hall will open and you can then
fight the Blood Princes and Blood-Queen Lana'thel. The final Frostwing
Halls unlock then occurs after that, making Valithria Dreamwalker,
Sindragosa, and the Lich King available. We believe a staggered release
of the content will allow players to experience Icecrown Citadel at a
sustainable, measured, and ultimately more enjoyable pace.

There
are other elements that gate access along the way. Players may not
attempt any Heroic versions of 10 player encounters until they have
defeated the Lich King in a 10 player raid. Similarly, players must
defeat the Lich King in a 25 player raid before they can attempt a
Heroic 25 player encounter. So players must master every normal
difficulty encounter in Icecrown Citadel before attempting Heroic
difficulty.

The Lich King may not be attempted until Professor
Putricide, Blood-Queen Lana'thel, and Sindragosa are defeated.
Furthermore, the Heroic difficulty of The Lich King encounter may not
be attempted in any week unless the three aforementioned encounters
have been defeated in Heroic difficulty that week.

The Ashen
Verdict provides reinforcements and material for players to assault
Icecrown Citadel, but this support is not endless. Raids will have a
limited number of attempts total each week to defeat the four most
difficult encounters in Icecrown Citadel: Professor Putricide,
Blood-Queen Lana'thel, Sindragosa, and the Lich King. As these boss
encounters are unlocked, the number of attempts available per week will
increase. The initial number of attempts provided for defeating
Professor Putricide is only five. When Blood-Queen Lana'thel unlocks,
the amount of total attempts remaining will increase to 10. Then when
Sindragosa and the Lich King unlock, 15 total attempts will be
available to defeat all four bosses. After a raid has exhausted their
attempts for the week, the Ashen Verdict must withdraw their support
and the four most difficult bosses all despawn and become unavailable
for the week. The limited attempt system is a feature of both Normal
and Heroic difficulty.

There will be no explicit rewards for
defeating the Lich King with a specific number of attempts remaining as
there was with Trial of the Grand Crusader. There will also not be an
achievement to complete Icecrown Citadel without being defeated by a
boss encounter, or letting a raid member die. (i.e. A Tribute to
Insanity).

In the weeks and months after all twelve encounters
are unlocked, additional attempts against the final four boss
encounters become available. This represents the Ashen Verdict growing
more powerful and gaining a stronger foothold in Icecrown Citadel. To
further help raids, Varian Wrynn and Garrosh Hellscream will begin to
provide assistance by inspiring the armies attacking Icecrown Citadel.
This is represented as an additional zone wide spell effect applied to
all players that will increase their hit points, damage dealt, and
healing done. This effect will also increase in effectiveness over
time. Players may opt out of the spell's effect if they so wish.

So I've ripped this from MMO-champion, and it contains some big spoilers.   It's based off the sound files someone is data mining.   Turn back if you don't want spoilers!!!

 

 

 

This particular section was highlighted as big spoiler happening in the 5 man Halls of Reflection.

  • HR_Uther_Alliance01 - Jaina! Could it truly be you?
  • HR_Uther_Alliance02 - Jaina you haven't much time. The Lich King sees what the sword sees. He will be here shortly!
  • HR_Uther_Alliance03 - No girl, Arthas is not here. Arthas is merely a presence within the Lich Kings mind. A dwindling presence.
  • HR_Uther_Alliance04 - Jaina listen to me. You must destroy the Lich King! You cannot reason with him! He will kill you and your allies and raise you all as powerful soldiers of the scourge!
  • HR_Uther_Alliance05 - Snap out of it girl! You must destroy the Lich King at the place where he merged with Ner'Zhul! Atop the spire, at the Frozen Throne. It is the only way.
  • HR_Uther_Alliance06 - There is... something else that you should know about the Lich King. Control over the scourge must never be lost. Even if you were to strike down the Lich King, another would have to take its place. For without the control of its master, the scourge would run rampant across the world, destroying all living things.
  • HR_Uther_Alliance07 - A grand sacrifice by a noble soul.
  • HR_Uther_Alliance08 - I do not know, Jaina. I suspect that the piece of Arthas that might be left inside the Lich King is all that holds the scourge from annihilating Azeroth.
  • HR_Uther_Alliance09 - No, Jaina! Aargh! He... He is coming! You... You must...

 

So this tells us a new Lich King must rise to keep the scourge in line.   But who?

 

My personal theory, well preference, cause I don't think this will happen...   But at this rate the new Lich King should be...    The merger of Jaina and Sylvannas.    All hail the Lich Queen!

To me, this whole both of them chasing Arthas down for their own reasons kinda make me think they'll take his spot, as the price for their choices.    And maybe merge / take over current Lich King souls of Arthas and Nerzhul too.

This would be a way for Jaina to be with Arthas again, strengthing him to keep the scourge under control.   As for Sylvannas, it'd be a diff ending than Maiev.   Instead of a "without the hunt she is nothing" thing, their souls can fight for all eternity inside the Lich King, which would keep the scourge from destroying Azeroth.

A reason I'd say this would never happen is cause there's been no indication of anyone replacing Sylvannas in Cataclysm.    Since only Thrall and Cairne is mentioned...  Though, unless they're planning on replacing the entire set of leaders....

And a reason I'd think another merger of 2 souls cause it'd seem to maintain balance.   Arthas + Nerzhul made the LIch King, seems fitting only another 2 would be able to stand in.

Though if they do only do 1 soul, then Jaina is the choice!    Her story can end with Arthas.   And without her, Alliance and Horde tensions can only rise as Blizzard indicated they wanted.

 

Anyways, enough of my rambling, now for the transcripts and sound files!    Also Professor Putricie = Professor Farnsworth, Rotface = Gollum, and Deathbringer Saurfang kinda makes me think of Darth Vader.

My theory is that one of the following two people will be the new Lich King.  One makes more sense than the other.

Theory #1 (most likely imo) - Darion Mograine.  He's familiar with how the Scourge operates - moreso than any other WotLK lore-based character.  He's strong-willed enough that he might be able to withstand the influence of the Lich King corrupting what's left of his soul.  However, he's also a Death Knight - which means he's familiar with having great power, and he may still want to acquire more power.

Likewise, by him becoming the new Lich King it keeps the Death Knights that players play relevant in the scheme of things.  We may act as "watchdogs" to him, to make sure the Lich King's corruption doesn't over take him.  He was able to break free from the Lich King's grasp once before ... maybe he can keep doing it.

Theory #2 (less likely) - Tirion Fordring.  Mostly because he's super strong-willed, and after Arthas' eventual defeat, he may take pity on him and take the burden for himself (aka usurp the Lich King, so to speak, from Arthas).  Plus, being a paladin he may have some level of inherent resistance to the Lich King's powers.  Still, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Another obvious choice would be Bolvar.   He's already up in there that fight.   All "scarred" up and not human any more.  Perhaps infused with the life giving fires of the red dragonflight now, which could be a counter balance to the undeath powers of a Lich King.    And his will is obviously strong to have lasted this long (whatever time in the storyline has passed, months?) and not breaking under constant torture from the Lich King.

Ooh, I hadn't considered Bolvar.  I figured he'd be more of a pariah as opposed to someone who could counter the Lich King's presence.

I much more figured him to be a keeper-esque boss.  Someone that you fight as a boss (or perhaps see some lore action) and ultimately defeat but don't kill; you "redeem" him so to speak.  Then he, perhaps, fights alongside you against the Lich King and ends up dying for the greater good.  At least, that's how this sort of thing typically works in these sorts of storylines.

Still, the concept that he might be able to counterbalance the powers of the Lich King (since I figure he's infused with the living powers of the Red Dragonflight) ... that's quite interesting.

Another possibility I see for Bolvar is that he'll be the one leading the fight against Deathwing.    The rallying guy at least trying to unite everyone like what Tirion (or Rhonin) is now.

He'd be a definitely link between the Dragonflights and Alliance.   Likely will still pursue cooperation with Horde.

Although, this does not have to be mutually exclusive.   Could be very interesting if he still becomes the Lich King but also able to use those powers for us to fight against Deathwing and the elementals.   And throughout the whole thing there can be tension with questions of "can we trust him?  is he really helping us?  or merely biding time and plotting our destruction".

I was thinking something similar.  Whomever ends up as the Lich King, I figure, would assume that they could "control" the Scourge (or at least some portion of it) and use it to fight against Deathwing.  The way I see it, when the Lich King is defeated in Icecrown, he's going to lose a significant chunk of his power - thus allowing for "freelance" Scourge to exist in places like EPL, WPL, and so on.  That way they don't have to directly ret-con the entire world, insofar as the Scourge are concerned.

Sort of akin to what happened with the Death Knights that players play.  The Lich King is dealt a terrible blow (from Tirion Fordring and Ashbringer) and in that moment of weakness, he loses control of the Knights of the Ebon Blade.  I'd assume that when the Lich King is defeated at Icecrown, he's going to lose control of a *LOT* of Scourge.

That tension you speak of makes sense as well.  Adds for more layers of plot development and certainly keeps things strained on the Alliance ("Can we really trust our former ally?  He's the Lich King after all") and on the Horde ("So the Lich King serves the Alliance now?  We can't allow that to continue").

Remember, within the scope of the game's current story, we don't KNOW that there "has" to be a Lich King.

Right now, the major players in-game (including ourselves) currently believe that killing the Lich King will also simultaneously destroy the Scourge.  It's only when we're knee-deep in Scourge in Icecrown Citadel that we discover that there HAS to be a Lich King.

Actually, it appears you find out in the 5 man, Halls of Reflection from the ghost/soul of Uther.

But basically yea.   It's too late to stop.  The mechanisms of war are fully under way on both sides out to destroy the villain they hate.

Also, just leaving Arthas alone isn't going to help even if they found out they can't just kill a Lich King.    At the very least it would serve to take out his powerbase.   Arthas took years build up his power to what it is now.   A new Lich King could be a smaller power they can keep in check, at least for a while.

 

The old world is "retconning" the scourge of the old world in a way.   Cause WPL at the very least is gonna be knocked down to a 30-40 zone (I think).    So the scourge there has been "weakened" some how.

As far as retconning the scourge out - remember, technically speaking a mob's level (relative to you) is not an indicator of its actual strength.

Case and point:  The Defias Gang (all sub-lv.20 mobs) are a serious threat to the Kingdom of Stormwind (all lv. 75 mobs).  The King of Gnomeregan (lv. 83 mob) has been kicked out of Gnomeregan (full of mid-30's mobs).  One of the strongest members of the Black Dragonflight is a lv. 63 (functionally) mob - Nefarian.

When I referred to retconning the Scourge away, I was referring to the fact that there HAS to be a Lich King, storyline-wise.  If the Lich King were defeated and the Scourge destroyed in the process, then what rationale would there be for the existence of EPL, WPL, Tirisfal, and the like at that point?  What rationale would there be for Stratholme to still be infested?

Well since Blizz released the lore on it today, seems potentially be yet another quest line to get people weapons.   I doubt it'd be Legendary like some people are hoping.    Probably a decent epic anyone can get.   It might even have to do with those procs that were datamined, since it says you can trade the Quel'Dalar in exchange for something you can use.    Anyways, on with the spoilers!

In ages past the great Dragon Aspects worked alongside the night elves to forge powerful prismatic blades that could be used to thwart any evil that came into the world. They would become known as the blades of Quel'Serrar. One of these blades, which had become lost in time, was recently unearthed again by brave heroes of Azeroth. Now rediscovered, Quel'Serrar is revered once more as a mighty tool of raw power.

Its sister blade, however, has not been seen for many years...

The sword known as Quel'Delar was held by the group of kaldorei who would eventully become the high elves, and it was handed down from generation to generation. Most recently Quel'Delar was wielded by the valiant high elven warrior Thalorien Dawnseeker. Thalorien fought tirelessly in the Troll Wars to defend his beloved home of Silvermoon, the Sunwell, and all of Quel'Thalas. When the Scourge swept through the lands during the Third War, Thalorien was among the last lines of defense for the Sunwell. Despite the sword's power, he was ultimately slain by the overwhelming might of Arthas and his legendary runeblade, Frostmourne. Quel'Delar was thought to be lost forever.

Following the destruction of their homeland, the determined blood elves began to regroup and rebuild. It was during this time that the battle-hardened warrior Lana'thel stumbled upon Quel'Delar, and soon afterward the greatest opportunity to use the blade presented itself: Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider raised an army and combined forces with Illidan Stormrage, who led them north to Icecrown on a mission to destroy the Lich King. Lana'thel readily followed her prince with one thought in mind -- revenge against the Scourge -- but only tragedy awaited her.

In the icy hills of Northrend, Arthas ultimately defeated Illidan and Kael'thas, and the expedition's few survivors were scattered across the frozen wastes. One by one the Lich King sought out those who had challenged him, and Lana'thel found herself cornered. Using Quel'Delar, she struck at him with all her might... but Frostmourne's evil powers overwhelmed her. Through his blade, the Lich King chose Lana'thel to serve him in undeath as queen of the San'layn, a group responsible for overseeing the Scourge's operations across Azeroth.

Queen Lana'thel eagerly carried out her new duties, but every time she looked at her blade, maddening anger would swell within her as she remembered her former life. She could not afford such distractions, and with a scream that echoed throughout Icecrown, she shattered Quel'Delar and flung the fractured pieces as far as she could.

Now...

The champions of the Alliance and the Horde who confront the Lich King's armies have but a slim chance of finding the pieces of this fabled blade. If they succeed, the heroes can embark on an epic adventure to re-forge Quel'Delar. They will require the strongest materials and a source of great power to make this shattered blade into the fearsome weapon it once was. Several classes can use Quel'Delar, and the sword can fit several different play styles. For any class that is unable to wield it, however, the Sunreaver blood elves and the Silver Covenant high elves will gladly take this relic of their history in exchange for a usable weapon.

Caladis Brightspear at Quel'Delar's Rest wants you to obtain 5 Infused Saronite Bars and use the Forgemaster's Hammer to combine them with the Battered Hilt to create the Re-forged Quel'Delar.
Description

We cannot allow Quel'Delar to remain broken and disgraced. Take the remnants of the sword, along with the battered hilt you discovered, and venture into the Pit of Saron within Icecrown Citadel. In the pit, the Lich King uses slaves to mine, process, and transform saronite ore. This infused saronite is what we will use to rebuild Quel'Delar. You must gather bars of infused saronite and capture the forgemaster's hammer, then bring them to the forgemaster's anvil and re-forge the sword.

And then you must venture deep in Forge Of Souls HC to do this quest:

Visit them, and if his spirit gives you its blessing, I will allow you to enter the Sunwell.

Unfortunately the rest of the quest-chain is not implemented into PTRs as of this build.

I'm just gonna put the entire Twitter talk here.  It's quite a bit of info and some of it applies to 3.3.   Most notably, Hard Modes are indeed locked til pug mode Arthas has been killed by the raid leader.     The tier 10 will have the "upgrade" system, that is the first tier of it is bought with Emblems of Frost, the next tier of it is bought with a token PLUS your old T10.   

 

Cataclysm
Q: Will Path of the Titans be as time consuming as obtaining Sons of Hodir reputation?
A: Sons
of Hodir was easy, we're thinking more along the lines of Argent Dawn
rep actually. JK! As a matter of fact, we don't want the paths of the
titans to feel grindy at all so we're trying to make sure that each
step along the way feels more like a great quest, or a key achievement
(like killing all the bosses in a new raid zone). So, it should be more
oriented around accomplishing something that feels important rather
than grinding.

Q: What’s Deathwing’s current relationship with the Old Gods?
A: In facebook terms, I'd list it as "It's Complicated". "Single" or "Married" are probably too extreme in this case.

Q: Will there be Wintergrasp-like capturable zones in Cataclysm?
A: Yes,
there is an island off the coast of the Eastern Kingdoms named Tol
Barad. Players will fight for control of the island and its famous
prison. However, while the battle for Tol Barad is not in progress,
players will find that it will remind them much more of the Isle of
Quel'Danas, in that it'll be a major daily quest hub with quite a bit
of random world pvp (presumably).

Q: Thousand Needles is getting a big change in levels; how has the Cataclysm affected it?
A: As a result of the Cataclysm, Thousand Needles has been completely flooded with water!

Q: With Cataclysm revisiting the old world, any plan to make the old reputations worthwhile again?
A: With
each expansion, we introduce new reputations with new rewards.
Sometimes we introduce reputations that are obviously related, such as
Argent Dawn/Argent Crusade and Cenarion Circle/Cenarion Expedition. We
don’t update the rewards for existing reps, as we don’t want to put new
characters at such a significant disadvantage.

Q: With the removal of defense in Cataclysm, will plate gear still have avoidance stats or will tanks and dps be sharing?
A: Tanking
gear will still have avoidance stats, they just won't have the defense
stat anymore. So to answer your question, tanking and dps gear will not
be the same.

Q: Any plans of doing anything with Grim Batol in the Wetlands?
A: Yes, we currently plan for Grim Batol to be one of the raid zones in Cataclysm. =]

Q: What are the plans for the current Goblin-run towns after Cataclysm is out?
A: Most
Goblin-run towns will continue to operate as normal. In general, the
existing Goblin cartels tend to be self-serving, and therefore aren't
taking sides.

Patch 3.3
Q: There's plenty of great endgame content, what about some new early/mid content to keep new players entertained?
A: We
actually have some small changes to the early game going live in 3.3.0
to help eliminate some new player confusion. This is not content
specific, it is more focused around easing the new player pain.

Q: Will leveling from 80-85 be like leveling from 70-80?
A: It's
too early to say. We base our leveling more around how much quest
content we have and how good the reward pacing feels. If we have as
many quests as we did from 70-80 and if it feels like your character is
getting a reasonable amount of new stuff for the time invested, then it
could end up being similar.

Q: Will players be able to do 'old world' quests after Cataclysm is released?
A: Only
"old world" quests that we don't change. However, once the Cataclysm
happens, it happens for everyone and there's no going back.

Q: How will you handle beginning characters and higher level friends after Cataclysm? WIll they be out of phase?
Players will not be out of phase. The Cataclysm changes the world for everyone.

Q: Are Worgen going to have mounts?
A: Both Worgen and Goblins will have new, racial specific mounts.

Q: Will there be events where ally + horde players have to work together to kill a boss?
A: Generally
speaking we don't do this because we prefer that the horde and alliance
feel like enemies rather than a big happy family working together to
defeat a common foe. If anything, we want tension between the sides to
rise.

Q: Will Hyjal be made for exploration in Cataclysm?
A: Yes.

Raids & Dungeons
Q: Love the steps taken to making high-end content accessible to casual players. How committed are you to continuing this?
A: This
is something we talk about on a regular basis. There isn’t a line in
the sand we have made, it’s much more on a per piece of content basis.
We do like the way the regular modes are shaping up to be more casual
friendly, while the hardmodes are a way to reward very hardcore play.

Q: Ulduar had one kind of hard mode(triggered).. ToC had another (ToC vs TOGC).. Ony has none. What will ICC have?"
A: ICC's
hard modes will be triggered, but via in-game UI (much like how you
toggle between normal and heroic modes today) rather than triggered by
game mechanics (like not killing the three drakes before you attack
Sartharion).

Q: For Cross-realm
LFG if the group is composed by members of other realms do they have to
go on foot or will they be teleported?

A: The
current plan is for players using the LFG system to be automatically
teleported into the instance, similar to how battleground queuing works
today. This is active on the PTR now, and we plan to host a community
event around this feature soon!

Q: Any chance to have LFG menu to show classes you're looking for I.E just showing all tanks or healers currently qued in LFG.
A: The
plan right now is to allow players to register for roles they are
capable of filling, then have the queue system make the best decision
possible for the player. This is to give all classes an equal chance at
participation. We also have plans to diversify the class makeup in a
future PTR update.

Q: With T10, are we going to see tokens like in Ulduar? or like CC? CC style had every class and spec rolling on same thing.
A: With
t10 we're going to see a hybrid. The tier 10 items (the ones with item
levels you'd find in the 10-player raid) will be purchased with Emblems
of Frost.

The tier 10.5 items (the ones with item levels you'd
find in the 25-player raid) will be obtained by getting a token (one
that is specific to 3 or 4 classes, much like the ulduar tokens) and
using it to upgrade the tier 10 item that was purchased with emblems of
frost.

Q: Will there be anymore epic storylines with cinematics like the wrathgate questline?
A: We
have big plans for additional in game cinematics! We are happy with how
the Wrathgate questline worked out, and want to do more lines like
this.

Q: May I create a group with 4 friends and then use the LFG interface to gain the random dungeon reward?
A: Yes.
In fact, you can join it with a full group of 5 and still get the
random dungeon reward. The reward is for doing a random dungeon, not
necessarily for having random members.

Q: Crowd control is all but dead in raids. Is that something you plan on bringing back?
A: Like say... with the Faction Champions encounter in ToC? ;]

Q: Are there any plans to open the other "sanctums" in Wyrmrest (i.e. Obsidian Sanctum, Azure Sanctum, Emerald Sanctum)?
A: Possibly. =]

Q: Are hardmodes going to get anything to make them feel like a different fight visually or auditory
A: I find the hard modes very different visually. Much more black and white imo.

Q: Any chance that the hybrid system that is going to be implemented for T10, could be retro fitted to all WotLK raids?
A: I'll take that as a good reaction to the t10 system. =] However, it unfortunately won't be retroactively applied.

Q: Will 10-man raiding guilds see Legendary quality weapons (items) drop in their raids anytime soon? Or in Cataclysm?
A: Our current plan is to reserve Legendary weapons for the 25 person encounters, I wouldn’t rule it out in the future though.

Q: Any plans for a gated system in IIC like in Colliseum that prevents us from doing hardmodes from day 1?
A: We
do have a system that unlocks bosses similar to how we handled TOC and
Sunwell. We are restricting hard modes to raid leaders that have
defeated Arthas in regular mode.

Q: In the future will hard modes have greater fidelity like Sarth, Sarth+1, Sarth+2, Sarth+3 rather than the Binary Normal/Hard?
A: Generally
we have learned that hard modes should be more binary, but that doesn’t
mean we will never do something like Sarth 3 drakes again.

Misc.
Q: When Race change is live will we be able to change to any race in our faction no matter what class we are?
A: No, you can only Race Change to a race that allows your specific class.

Q:
Any chance the Legendary items will grow stronger as players level up
as heirlooms? Its too much work, just to ditch after a patch.

A: This
is something we have talked about a great deal. One of the concerns
about making a weapon “best in the game” that scales up, is that
players will continue to do old, outdated content in order to obtain
the weapon. This ends up being not very fun for the other participants.
While obtaining a legendary weapon is an incredible accomplishment, it
is important cycle out weapons on a somewhat regular basis to make sure
players are always playing new content.

Q: Any chance of being able to link more then one authenticator on one account? (in case I lose or break one)
A: We are talking about the authenticator and how to make it a better experience. Your suggestion is one we are talking about.

Q: Do you have plans to have acheivement points redeemable?
A: Achievement points are a prestige reward only. There are no plans to turn them into some kind of currency.

Q: Any plans on adding bonuses to certain titles your character obtains? Like "...of the alliance" gives +5 to all stats
A: We
have no plans to introduce combat advantages to titles. Titles in World
of Warcraft are very specifically set up as prestige rewards only.

Q: Can locks have a summonable flying mount now please
A: Now? As in right this second? No.

Q: Will Alliance ever get an ingame band like the Hordes L80ETC?
A: Sure, if somebody knows of an awesome Alliance band...

Q: When do hunters get to tame druids?
A: Right after druids get a hunter form.

Q: What will happen to Mankrik's Wife? Please don't tell me she's gobbled up by the lava?
A: You'll have to wait and see. =]

ICC Hard Mode Toggling (not really a spoiler)

I'm actually kind of disappointed with the way hard mode activation has gone from Ulduar and what it looks like it will be in ICC. The way I see it (from a lore / closeness to reality standpoint).


Ulduar: Hard modes toggled by at least some kind of mechanic whether pressing a button or leaving up towers or adds. I kind of like the "speed-kill" based hard modes where you can miss the timer but still kill the boss.


Examples


Mimiron: You press a button, and he gets super pissed at you, and you're fighting not just Mimi but the fire as well.


Flame Leviathan: Holy crap, you didn't destroy the defenses...that means you're gonna have a harder time


Vezax: You don't want to break these saronite vipers? Fine, I'm just going to turn him into a freaking Saronite MONSTER.


Hard modes kind of "made sense" story wise..


TOC: This is somewhat less reconcilable to me, but not so bad. Ok you've finished this "trial"...now why don't you hearth to Dalaran, get a drink, and come back and we'll add some HP and nastier debuffs. Not a trigger, but a completely different boss entirely. This isn't terrible, and I know it was a test, but I can't help but get the feeling.."didn't we just kill this noob like 30 minutes ago?"


ICC: This is basically how I think about the "activation" in ICC 


Arthas: "Mortals, you have foolishly ventured onto the hallowed grounds of the scourge. How arrogant of you to think your petty band of misfits could overrun my minions. Prepare yourselves, mortals, to taste the cold death of Frostmourne. I will have your souls."


Garreth: "Umm....wait...hey Arthas, I'm gonna have you switch to hard mode for me...mmmk? (clicks UI activation)"


Arthas: "Oh...umm ok hard mode? Ok no problem, I'm gonna hit you harder then ok? Umm...let's see, ok I got my hard mode gear on, I got a better enchant on Frostmourne now, so I think I'm ready...uhh...ok...Prepare yourselves, mortals... uhh...even more so now"

Techinically this all makes as much sense lore wise as "hey, didn't we kill you last week?"    Or the whole concept of heroic instances.   "I saw you at 70, now let's fight as 80".

When it comes down to it, EZ/Normal mode is likely gonna be PuG mode.   Blizz wants people to see content, want people to see the final boss of the game/expansion.

So with the 12 bosses in Icecrown, we can't really expect players to want to clear it twice a week, with all the trash it'll have like Ulduar style.    And they didn't like the mechanic switches.

I agree on the heroics (it's a little hoaky lore-wise)...and I'm not saying that necessarily for Lore purposes alone that they should change it.


And I can actually get behind TOC and TOGC being two seperate instances (its an overly long explanation as to why I think it works lore-wise, so I'll spare everyone).


I'm just saying that I liked the concept of toggling hard mode in Ulduar better because it seemed more "natural" and fluid.

Well Ulduar hard modes, some of it kinda felt tacked on.   Or at least non-sensical lore wise.   Or maybe it's the clever oh so overconfidance of villians that let the heroes win or something.

Like say XT, why the fuck does he expose his weakness, and even then why the fuck doesn't mimiron just remove all safeties to better defend ulduar!   And what's with stopping the bots from spawning, smarter thing is to send wave after wave to clog up our cannons.

Hodir, "i'm gonna wait exactly 3 mins before I smash this box".

Thorim...   Sif...  "Ok, i'm gonna leave in 3 minutes *after* you've been weakened by Yogg, as a raid is trying to kill you, have fun with them"

Freya was fine I guess, similar to FL.

Vezax, is just interesting how bosses give players the ability to defeat itself.   Well for hard mode itself, it just seems if he was able keep his pet alive better his shield would last!  lol

Yogg, the Keepers "thanks for saving us now since you didn't ask we're just gonna stand here and watch you fight an old god".

But i think the STUPIDEST hard mode (lore-wise) in Ulduar is Iron Council. Ok, let me get this straight, so you're telling me the hardest way to get these 3 mofos down is to kill the big dude last? If my objective is to get all 3 down, why the hell would I ever kill the big dude last then?


I think XT makes sense...he exposes his heart because he's tired and taking a rest! Tantrums require much exertion!


Yogg is kinda non-sensical, but i give it a pass only because "Alone in the Darkness" is the best (non-comedic) achievement name in the game, imo. Doesn't it give you chills just to say it quietly in your head?

Then it'd be like rescuing them all at once, the "hard way".   If we wanted help, we'd go rescue a specific keeper for their assistance.   Not just have them standing around above us.

But this would be terrible loot progression wise.

Stictly from 3.1 perspective, if you were dead set on learning Yogg Hard Mode and it was this method of activation, you'd basically be stuck there.  Skipping 4 bosses of loot to get at it.   You might get it all back afterwards in some massive tribute chest, but it doesn't exactly help with the wiping you'd be currently facing.   

Killing the keepers would get you more loot and at the very least be in a better position each week at hard mode.

Ends up being logistically horrible for raids. lol   Do we skip 4 bosses?   How long do we wipe at it until we give up and go back to kill other bosses?   How much time is needed for them?   Hard mode those (need more time) or cheese them (push it last minute)?   etc, etc.
