Professor Putricide Strategy Page
saedo — Thu, 10/15/2009 - 11:54
- Puddle of Slime - The Mutated Slime grows continuously, inflicting 4388 to 4612 damage every 1 sec until it is consumed by another Mutated creature!
- Mutated Transformation - You have been mutated! Inflicts 1950 to 2050 damage to nearby players every 1 sec. Curing the disease will revert the player to their form. This spell turns you into a Mutated Abomination.
- Choking Gas Bomb - Professor Putricide throws Gas Bombs around him, the Gas Bomb deals 5653 damage every 1 sec and explodes for 15600 to 16400 damage after 20 sec.
- Choking Gas - The Choking Gas inflicts 4388 to 4612 damage and causes you to choke, reducing your chance to hit by 75% for 10 sec.
- Choking Gas Explosion - The explosion inflicts 10725 to 11275 damage to enemies within 10 yards, knocking them back and reducing their chance to hit by 75% for 10 sec.
- Malleable Goo - Professor Putricide bounces a Malleable ball of Green Goo at the target, inflicting 9750 to 10250 damage and slowing attack and cast speed by 1% for 20 sec.
- Mutated Plague - The Mutated Plague spreads to Professor Putricide, healing him for 300000 for each stack of Mutated Plague that was on the target.
Volatile Ooze:
- Ooze Eruption - Inflicts 39000 to 41000 damage sharesd with nearby targets, knocking them back in all directions!
- Volatile Ooze Adhesive - The Volatile Ooze Adhesive bonds the target to the Volatile Ooze, inflicting 2438 to 2562 damage every 1 sec and rooting the target. The Volatile Ooze will move towards the target, exploding for 39000 to 41000 damage, split among all nearby targets
Gas Cloud:
- Gaseous Bloat - Inflicts 1463 to 1537 damage every 2 sec and if the Gas Cloud hits you it will expunge all of the remaining Gaseous Bloat and harm all nearby allies. Stacks 10 times.
- Expunged Gas - The Gas Cloud's attack has expunged all of the gas from the target! Expunged Gas inflicts damage to all enemies based on the number of Gaseous Blight stacks that were remaining on the target when they were attacked
The Fight:
This is a three phase fight, and is the most difficult, yet challenging and not rng fight you'll face yet.
Phase 1 (100-80%):
First off, this is a 2 tank fight, but the 2nd tank is not needed at all until the 3rd phase. Therefore, it's opted to use that OT for...
Mutated Transformation, clicking on the potions on his table turns you into this abomination. You'll be dealing 2K per tick in 10 man to everyone in the raid, and it is disease cleansable. But don't cleanse it because it has the following abilities:
- Eat Ooze, which consumes the various slime pools that are dropped
- Regurgitate Ooze, which will slow targets by 50%, will be key to kiting things
- Mutated Slash, which increases physical damage taken by 4% for 20 sec stacks to 5
These abilties are key to the fight and should be done in almost that priority listed.
Putricide will drop 2 Puddle of Slime around. They will grow with time. The only way to eliminate them is for the Abom to eat them up. Which conseqently gives them the "energy" they need to perform, Regurgitated Ooze to snare adds, if you're doing it normal non-achievement kills. A key to this is not to simply eat up every slime you see and clean the room. You must conserve 1 or 2 so the Abom can readily have energy available for the moves to perform. Must balance between cleaning new puddles, keeping existing puddles small and managable.
Mutated Slash, is just an extra ability, costs no energy that you can use if there's nothing else going on. It'll help increase dps if you have time for it.
Putricide will summon an add, "Unstable Experiment" and it alternates between the Volatile Ooze and Gas Cloud. In his room, you'll see 2 big vats on the walls, one green on the right (north), one orange on the left (south). The Volatile Ooze will spawn from the green one, the Gas Clouds will spawn from the orange one.
Volatile Ooze, a few seconds after spawning, they will fixate on someone. A big giant green beam will connect with his target. That target will be rooted, and when the ooze reaches him, it does a knockback explosion (not death), in which damage is split among all it hits. Then it will pick a new target to fixate on and repeat. The goal is to have the dps, including and especially melee kill it asap. The Abom is to snare it so there'd be more time. The DPS are to try to stay away until it fixates, but maybe nudge closer to get there faster when it does. You'll likely fail the first fixates at current gear/dps levels, try to kill it before the 2nd fixate it does. This will be the biggest source of damage in this phase until you have the dps to out zerg it, or luck of position to have enough time for it.
Gas Cloud, will also fixate on someone. Except this time, the target will gain a 10 stack debuff of Gaseous Bloat. A stack of it falls off every 2 seconds. Should the Gas Cloud reach its target, it will aoe with each melee hit it does, with damage based on the number of stacks. Basically 10 stack is around 25K damage to the entire raid. Goal is to kite it and kill it. Abom again slows it down, and dps don't be near it til it fixates on someone.
Anyways, as for tank positioning, we now use the tanking on Green Side strat. Every time a Volatile Ooze spawns, everyone (mostly) stacks up on it and zerg it down. If it explodes, the damage is split with all of us so it's minimal, just have to reach and kill before 2nd explosions. Also gives us minimal running time for max dps time on Putricide himself. We'd also be on the far side of Gas Clouds giving good kite distance.
At 80%, he will cast Tear Gas, which stuns everything in the room, also making us immune to damage so the various pools won't kill anyone. It also resets any snares and fixate targets the Ooze or Cloud may have. Prepare to re-snare it, or time your pushovers when there's no adds up.
Phase 2 (80-35%):
It's the same abilties as above, with 2 new things.
Choking Gas Bomb, small orange beakers he drops around him. They not only hurt, but also like Archavon's cloud, reduces your hit by 75%. They also explode after 20 seconds. Tank is to kite Putricide away from them, and of course the raid don't stand near them.
Malleable Goo, are ooze shadow crashes again. They explode in an area and also slows down all that hit. Watch for flying oozes, don't stand under them.
Tear Gas stun occurs yet again for the transition into the next phase, so again time it well...
Phase 3 (35-0%):
Adds no longer spawn, you also lose the Abom ability, P2 abilties remain, and it's where the OT comes into play. Quickly finish off the remaining ooze/cloud if one remains.
First off, without the Abom, that mean existing and new slime pools will grow indefinitely making a soft enrage similar to Vashj. As the room will eventually be covered, killing us all. There's also a hard enrage too at 10 mins, so maybe you won't actually see soft enrage happening. Still, it forces you to kite in a gradually shrinking room.
Anyways, the new abilty that he has for the OT is Mutated Plague. What it does is puts a debuff on the tank, which makes him aoe everyone around him (think Burning Bile). Each stack, doubles its damage, so like 200 -> 400 -> 800 -> 1600 -> etc. Should the stack fall off, Putricide heals for 300K (500K in other modes) per stack. So the goal is to never let the stack fall off, but yet manage it so no single one tank gets high in stacks to make the damage spike up exponentially.
A guide to this with 2 tanks is to do it like this... MT tanks it to 3 stacks. OT takes over and takes it to 3 stacks. MT comes back in and takes over before his debuff falls off and tanks it to 5 stacks (that's 2 extra stacks). OT comes back and tanks over to 5 stacks as well. Hope you kill it by then.
In 25 man, it was designed to have 3 tanks. You can do something similar to above, or alternate per stack (taunt after each new stack), making the kill with 3 stacks per tank.
Find what works best for your raid. That's about it for normal mode, a fairly fun and challenging fight. Good luck with your attempts!

Notes on this putricide
carno — Sun, 01/17/2010 - 03:59This is based on icc10/25 combat logs and attempts at Professor Putricide:
Phase 1 and 2 are positioning and kite phases while Phase 3 is a don't-die-to-bomb burn phase. Here's what we did in Phase 1/2:
Phase 3 is DPS check where players must always avoid Malleable goo and stay out of slime:
Single interval tank taunt assumes Putricide doesn't become immune to taunt; reports have been Putricide isn't really affected by DR of taunt.
For 25man tanks must start out taunting every debuff: 1/0/0, 1/1/0, 1/1/1, 2/1/1, 2/2/1, 2/2/2, 3/2/2, etc. In 25man, waiting for each tank to get 2 stacks will be very risky because it will take 40 seconds for the first tank to get next taunt, it's very confusing, the damage is minimal, and ooze will wipe the room first anyways. Healers should be able to heal mutated plague stacks for 3 tanks for a very long time -- the entire room will fill with ooze before a tank gets 4 debuffs. Again, this assume taunt DR doesn't break things.
Mutated Plague dmg (every 3 sec, per stack):
Thus, healing required (per second; (raid_count-1)*x/3):
Healing required here is cumulative based on number of tanks with debuff count. So, 3 tanks at 2 stacks each would be 18k healing/sec and end of fight where one has 4 and two have 3, healing would have to be 82.5k (13k/sec per 6 healers). That said, the number also assumes 100% of raid is alive, which will likely be necessary to not hit enrage. 4/3/3 would be 100 seconds into the fight and this healing doesn't include other inc raid or tank damage.
Healing and DPS in Phase would be cake if it weren't for malleable goo which will get players stuck in slime, slow down their DPS, and usually one-shot them if they just took a tick from Mutated Plague.
If you have a slow computer, this fight may not be for you. Malleable goo bounces and if you can't see it bounce before it gets to you, you're going to take a lot of damage and lose a lot of dps. Because of the bounce it can hit you even though you're not targeted. DBM is good now at indicating the timer and if you're targeted.
Hmm unlimited range, that's
saedo — Sun, 01/17/2010 - 04:48Hmm unlimited range, that's good to know. But if that's the case, with both tanks staying in. Why not do the 10 man like 25 man? Taunt at each stack.
Heroism at 10% or the 3 stacks sounds a bit late. You may be thinking it takes 40 sec more to stack both tanks to 5 and Heroism is 40 sec. But with that additional ramp up in dps it could be dead far sooner if used earlier. LC's P3 only lasted 90 sec in the last kill, so maybe at most the phase should 120 sec (the 6th stack appearing). So to maximize uptimes if you want to save it towards the end, should prolly hit it no later than 15-20%.
Anyway we can prevent the 'ol

Since LC got the kill, I put up a thorough strat of what we did. As far as I remember.
Anyone else got stuff to add? Perhaps Nuit can offer insights on how he dealt being an Abom.

saedo — Wed, 01/06/2010 - 15:50Wow so this has become the 2nd most viewed page on the site.
Well I'll give ya all something then, this is the fight based on all the info that's been trickling out. Hope it helps.
Phase 1 (100-80%):
It's a 2 tank fight, except, the OT is only only needed in P3. Groups generally use that OT as the Abomination. Only 1 possible active at a time.
The Abomination is what you turn into clicking the potions on the table. While one, you do about 4.5K a tick damage to the entire raid. I believe it's disease cleansable, but don't do it. For he also has abilties to...
1. Eat Slime Pools
2. Slow Mobs Down
3. Put up a physical debuff on mobs
That is also the priority on things the Abomination must do.
Anyways, while Putricide is tanked and dps'd down whenever we're free, this phase has 2 tricks to it.
Gas Cloud, which will put a 10 stack of Gastic Bloat on a random player, then chase him. Every 2 sec, the stack drops. If the cloud catches up, it explodes all the remaining stack. Goal is to kite, while ranged dps burn it down to completely prevent such an explosion.
Volatile Ooze, will also lock onto a random player. But that player will be rooted, so melee dps try to dps it down. Should it reach its target, it will explode, but damage is split among all it hits. Still, it hurts, and will be the biggest source of damage, likely, in this phase.
Phase 2 (80-30%):
Same abilties as above with addition to...
Choking Gas Bomb, Putricide throws a bombs around himself releasing gas cloud. Which explodes, after several seconds. Tank is to kite him away before that happens, raid of course not be there either.
Malleable Goo, which is basically another Shadow Crash. It'll hurt and slow the people it hit. Try to spread out when possible, don't stand under them.
Phase 3 (30-0%):
Adds (Gas Clouds and Volatile Ooze) no longer spawn, and you lose the ability to become an Abomination. Slime Pools and P2 abilties still occur.
This becomes a bit like Vashj soft enrage, where the room will eventually be covered in slime killing us all.
Anyways, new ability is Mutated Plague. A stacking debuff on the tank which causes them to aoe everyone around them. Each stack doubles the damage (e.g. 200 -> 400 -> 800). But if the stack falls off, Putricide heals for a fuck ton.
Goal of the tanks is to get some stacks, then OT takes over while MT runs away from raid to not hurt us. But before the debuff wears off, come back, and take over tanking to refresh the stack, while OT runs away to not hurt us. Repeat with OT, back and forth, making sure the stack does not fall off, and splitting the stack between the 2 tanks so damage doesn't shoot up exponentially.
Suggested stack usage would be Tank 1, 3 stacks, Tank 2, 3 stacks, Tank 1, 5 stacks (that's get 2 more), Tank 2, 5 stacks, and hope he's dead by then.
