New Site Theme
garreth — Mon, 02/11/2008 - 00:00
Welcome to the new website theme, called Deco, developed by instromaniac for the Drupal during the Google Summer of Code.
I've made a custom header image, which needs a LOT of work. The header logo currently does not line up with the background texture, but I'm working on that.

As we find things that are wrong, or that can be improved on the site, let's track them here! Just telling Garreth is likely to have no effect, as he's got 1000 things going on!
Wise words from Fark.com

I have to wander around Second Life every couple of months just to remind myself that I'm not as screwed up as all that. I do think it represents the future of communications, though. The natural progression would seem to be hand-written correspondence-> telegraph-> telephone-> email-> texting-> scrawling a message on a poorly-rendered lavender dick and pitching it through somebody's virtual front window. Inevitable, really.
Loot Priority
garreth — Mon, 11/19/2007 - 13:44
Let's talk about loot priority for a moment. We have a set of rules and if you stick by them, drama is minimized. In our years of raiding experience, there is no other single form of contention as bad as Loot Priority. Raids without a clear distribution hierarchy that all raiders agree to are doomed to failure. By joining a Downfall raid, you agree to the following:
- If you're brought in to DPS, you get priority on DPS gear.
- If you're brought in to tank, you get priority on tanking gear, but NOT dps gear.
- If you're brought in to heal, you get priority on healing gear, but NOT tanking gear or dps gear.
"But!" You may cry out with the anguish of a thousand nub sobs. "How is my paladin/warrior/priest/shaman/druid supposed to get his pewpew/clangclang set?! Am I just supposed to heal/tank for the rest of my WoW career?!"
This is an easy answer. Yes. Yes, you are. If that bothers you, raidquit get an arena team going and go PvP for your dps gear. We each raid as very specific cogs in a very powerful machine. If just one of us doesn't do his job properly, the machine fails. I am a healer. I know how incredibly important my role is. I take great pride in the fact that I'm a rare and talented player. So should all you healers and tanks.
Each situation requires you to ask "What role am I in the raid RIGHT NOW?" And, as with all things in Downfall, if there are issues regarding loot it is ultimately up to the raid leader at hand for final decision.

About this Buddhist Stuff
Keshini — Sat, 11/17/2007 - 02:10
As I've had several people ask about the Buddhism I do, I thought I'd post some stuff here on that too. I'll put it into a single thread and see how that works :D
I chose Buddhism 23 years ago, at that time in life where we are young and searching for "the meaning of life" lol. I've practiced it for the most part this past 23 years, with some ups and downs, but it's always been a source of courage, wisdom, and provided a compassionate view of humanity and the world. So in later posts I'll share some of that.
For now, it's late and time for bed :P
