EPGP Our Loot System for 25 man Raids in MoP
Elapsed — Thu, 01/03/2013 - 17:42
When tasked with finidng an apropiate loot system for our new 25 man raid in MoP I found myself returning to something I knew from my time before <Downfall>: EPGP
EPGP is a loot system in which both your effort and the loot you take are taken into account when rolling on an item. Here's how it works:
- EP = Effort Points = What points you have accrued from your time with the raid via showing up on time, killing bosses, first kills, or even sitting on standby waiting for a spot in raid.
- GP = Gear Points = A value assigned to each epic item that drops and you recieve. An addon determines this automatically based off of item ilevel.
- PR = Priority Ratio = A ratio of EP to GP that determines who gets priority for loot.
The basic math structure is quite simple: EP/GP = PR
EPGP IN ACTION
Say I have 10000 EP from raiding for the last week and Atar has 20000 because I missed the previous raid week (made up numbers may not be true to a weeks raiding). Let's say we both have 1500 gp.
- Elapsed's PR: 10000/1500 = 6.67PR
- Atar's PR: 20000/1500 = 13.34pr
Then we kill Gara'jal and Circuit of the Frail Soul (worth 415GP) drops and we both roll. Because of Atar actually raided on the wipe nights to kill Gara'jal he has a much higher EP and therefore a much higher PR. He wins that easily. My PR stays the same but let us see what Atar's PR is at now
- Atar's PR: 20000/1915 = 10.44 PR
Next we kill The Spirit Kings and each get 1000 EP for the kill and on the drop is a Mindshard Drape (worth 415 gp) and we both want it again.
- Elapsed's PR: 11000/1500 = 7.34 PR
- Atar's PR: 21000/1915 = 10.96PR
Notice how Elapsed's PR went up more than Atar's due to the kill. And again Atar wins the item!
- Atar's new PR: 21000/2330 = 9.01
Now Elegon dies, its our first kill so we each get 2000 EP for it. On the drop is a Light of the Cosmos (worth a whoping 1037 GP)
- Elapsed's PR: 13000/1500 = 8.67PR
- Atar's PR: 23000/2330 = 9.87PR
Atar this time just barely wins, but see what happens to his PR vs Elapsed's on this set:
- Atar's PR: 23000/3367 = 6.87PR
Quite the hit there, now the next item that drops is clearly a win for Elapsed, and showing that being there for raid on time and prepared can make a difference for loot every night.
You can see how in just a few loots and kills someone who missed a week in raid wont be completely behind the curve when it comes to gear.
DECAY
Every week both EP and GP numbers will be reduced by 10% (on Tuesdays) so that all PRs will remain the same but will help with keeping numbers down to reasonable levels.
So some basic things to know for raid (real numbers now):
- First kills = 2000 EP
- Farm Kills (anything after the first kill unless deemed so by officers) = 1000 EP
- Wipe Night (aka no kills just working on progression) = 4000 EP
- The mininum EP you need to be considered for a roll is 10000EP (Updated for 5.2)
Standby raiders are considered and are granted 50% of EP granted to raiders (as long as they are online and ready to fill in instantly when needed). Other EP numbers may be considered as needed and will be anounced to the raid when it happens
GP VALUES
All items right now are determined by EPGP and numbers can be given on a case by case basis.
Also if an item goes to offspec the GP cost of said item will be waived for the winner of a 1-100 roll. SHOULD a person be using their offspec to help the raid on a certain fight (aka a healer or tank going DPS for a specific fight every week) then they will have priority on getting offspec items. once again that is at officers discretion and can be openly discussed with me on a cast by case basis.
I hope this sheds some light on the loot system, I will be on as much as I can over the next week should someone have any questions.
Check out your points over at EPGP <Downfall> and even look at your gear history (first night gear history is a little wonky

Blood Spirit Items and the 25 man
Elapsed — Thu, 02/07/2013 - 12:19Recently we've started to Disenchant items in Mogu'Shan Vaults. Those items reap two benefits! A Sha Crystal and a Blood Spirit. Blood Spirits are used to craft ilvl 496 Items that we get the patterns for EVERY RAID!
Last night I was approached to have an item crafted and how much it would cost them. I'm here now to explain the system in place is ready to handle this! As we've given out the patterns we've made perfectly clear the people getting the patterns would have to provide the BoP items (Spirit of Harmony or Imperial Silk) FREE for guildies.
So what do you need to get something made? This guide is here to help!
Step 1) Look at the List Atar and I keep updated And find out if we have the pattern for what you want yet
Step 2) Find the people who can make it and see who has the required BOP mats ready for crafting it. Ask nicely and make sure they know why you're asking. (Crafter note! BOP items WILL BE PROVIDED BY YOU FOR FREE TO THE GUILDY)
Step 3) Get the other mat's yourself. I.E. Living Steel, Magnificent Hide, etc etc. Any ITEM that is required that is NOT BoP you MUST provide. Ask in guild if anyone has a good deal for said items or can help you with a daily CD to make it (I.e. Alchemists can make 1 living steel a day if you give them 6 Trillium Bars)
Step 4) Post on Atar's and Elapsed's Post about Blood Spirits(once again will be linked as soon as it's up this week) Say what item you want, who's crafting it, and post the items you have ready for it
Step 5) We will contact you in game (in order of people ready to craft) and give the crafter the Blood Spirit's to make the item for you.
Step 6) Your GP goes up by the GP cost of the item. Now! for those who think "Well shit Elapsed, I'm just going to wait for a drop then instead of going through this" Think of it this way, ilvl 496 item, no waiting for a drop and hoping you have the highest RP. Also you will be helping the raid by improving yourself in any and all ways possible!
The following is a Role-Play of how this works so that you can understand how to follow these steps properly
Treelapsed decides that he must improve his DPS and wants to get Liferuned Leather Gloves. He reads this post carefuly and knows what he must do. He looks at the list and finds that Aeolyn can craft it. He waits patiently for Aeolyn to log on and asks him
Treelapsed "Hey bud, I'm looking to get crafted Lifruned Leather Gloves, Do you have 3 Spirit Of Harmony ready to do that for me?"
Aeolyn "Sure do! And I'll be happy to craft them for you, Just let me know when you have everything"
Treelapsed then Goes to the AH to see how much the 2 Magnificent Hides are. He asked in guild and a Guildy had em for a deal so he bought them. Next he posted on The List this post.
Treelapsed
Liferune Leather Gloves
I have 2 Magnificent Hide
Aeolyn is the crafter and he has the 3 Spirit of Harmony
Once it hits Treelapsed's turn on the list. Atar notifies him and Aeolyn and then the Blood Spirits get sent to Aeolyn. Aeolyn makes the gloves and Sends them to Treelapsed. Also Atar charges Treelapsed 750GP just like if the item had dropped off a boss.
Treelapsed thanks Aeolyn and now has his Gloves. He IMEDIATELY enchants/Gems/Reforges as needed.
Hopefully this guide has helped you figure out not only how we charge for the Blood Spirits but also how to get that epic you want crafted so badly. Any Questions? Post a reply to this post or send a whisper to an officer of the 25 man OUTSIDE OF RAID!

I really like this,
garreth — Tue, 01/08/2013 - 00:38I really like this, especially the Min PR section from the official EPGP site:
TLDR version: Brand new raiders can't gank loot from much more established raiders. This essentially ensures that loot stays well within the raid, though new people still have a shot.
The biggest failure of our old system (FuriousRaid) was that new people could come in, clock an hour, outroll an established raider (that had just wiped their points) and then we'd never see that gear in raid again.
We'll be implementing this a
Elapsed — Tue, 01/08/2013 - 11:01We'll be implementing this a month or so into raid probably a 10-20k min EP once we see what can be done every week (earning EP wise) so a person should be around for a week or two with us before we give them gear (unless otherwise passed on)
I approve of this system
FireWire — Sat, 01/05/2013 - 23:56I approve of this system greatly, seems fair to everyone!
