Downfall.... not for only the hardcore
Finndo — Tue, 05/06/2008 - 08:14
What do people think of when they think of Downfall (ignore Blood-Faith)? Is Downfall ONLY a guild for hardcore raiders? Some, might say yes. I enjoy the atmosphere created by Downfall members, But I am not a hardcore raider, nor will I ever be. I am married, have a child on the way, a full time job, bills to pay, mouths to feed, blah blah blah real world living. Yet I still like to play WoW. I just cannot afford to spend the amount of time it takes to raid the major instances. I know there are more than a few people in this situation in Downfall.
Do I have a place in Downfall? Do non-raiders, non-hard core PVPers have a place? Of course. We just have to know where that place is.
I have played MANY MMOs over the years. I have found that it is pretty much the same with all of them: hit the cap, the non-hardcore get frustrated about content because they can't spend hours and hours playing to achieve "that one cool item". MMO - Massively Multiplayer. At end-game, it is all about multiplayer. You HAVE to submit yourself to playing with others to have any sort of enjoyment out of the game. WoW is different because it allows the casual player to play casually and achieve great things - but you still need to play with others.
I get frustrated because I ask for help, but people are busy doing dailies, arenas, in raid, the list goes on. I KNOW there are others in guild that feel the same, I am not alone.
So what do I do? I Log in, ask for help in g-chat, whisper a few people, get told thy are busy, get no response in green chat, and decide to do weenie quests I can solo. I play for a little while, watching the chat go by, wanting to feel like I am a part of the guild.
I don't want anyone to think this is a whiny rant about the people in downfall, it is most definately NOT. I want to find people who play the style that I play, who are where I am in the scope of end-game -- right at the beginning. I would like to run Kara, but I can't play 3+ hours a night (I can one night a week if I am lucky). I would like to run heroic 5-mans, or even reg 5-mans, maybe even do a little Arena PVP. But I have no one to ask, because I don't know who to ask.
I am sure there are those out there like me. who want to do these things but don't know where to go.
I suppose when it gets right down to it, I am looking for those people who cannot devote alot of time to WoW, who still love the game, and who want to do more than get frustrated when they can't find the help they need to progress. There are may ways to get the cool stuff, it just won't be the hardcore endgame stuff.
So, to the casual players, speak up!!

So once my lazy (not-busy
Saja — Sun, 05/11/2008 - 17:40So once my lazy (not-busy and not internet-less house-sitting) ass gets Saja to 70, I will do 5 mans like no tomorrow (hopefully not stretching til 11 or 12 at night though).
I'm just snod-picking slow at leveling.
However, please hit me up. I'm usually running around with Torvo or Alexinna (and some few other 70's that have pity on me).
I'd love to do Kara and ZA (I bet we could talk Jayel and Joshsmom and a few others into joining us).
Garreth don't make fun of me for lvling slow.
Or anyone else.

Last night was
Finndo — Wed, 05/07/2008 - 08:49Last night was interesting.... I heard LF1M had a heck of a time in raid (bad things happen, and it sucks :( ...)
Tried to initiate a 5-man, no luck. Couldn't find a tank or a healer for the life of me. Thanks to Bob, Tweaks and Magg for joining in.
I'll be back at it again, and will continue my attempts to enliven the non-raiding portion of our guild.
I'm an applicant for the
tweaks — Tue, 05/06/2008 - 15:29I'm an applicant for the guild, so you wouldn't see me in Gchat but if you ever need help hit me up. I always look forward to helping out so whenever I'm online and not raiding chances are if you ask I'll help.

....wait....that's a whole bunch...
I like how you put this Fin...not complaining...just looking to unite those casual players...BIG Kudos.
I seem to remember Popple
Katibug — Tue, 05/06/2008 - 08:53I seem to remember Popple posting about how frustrating it was when people were doing dailies. I'm sure she'd be more than willing to help out.
If I'm not raiding I'll definitely help you out!
I think this is a great
garreth — Tue, 05/06/2008 - 08:53I think this is a great opportunity to get the "silent casual hardcore" to come together and get some organization.
The problem is that they just don't use the site nearly enough. I think I'm going to spam them all with this post and say "HEY, FUCKING READ THIS!"
I have a post previously on the site about "5 man teams" where I name off many many people that should come together, I'll track it down.
I realize that we all have
Finndo — Tue, 05/06/2008 - 08:43I realize that we all have "Real Lives" to attend to; my point was to not bash on anyone or to complain. I am just trying to open the door for those of us that can't raid due to time constraints or otherwise. Just trying to open up the communication lines a little bit.
I totally accept the reality that those that run raids throughout the week are busy during those times, and would not even ask them to extend themselves beyond raiding regularly.
If you don't know who to
Shihli — Tue, 05/06/2008 - 08:33If you don't know who to ask, then ask everyone.
This subject rears its head once every few months. Many of us lead "real lives" outside of WoW - myself, I wake up, go to work until 5pm, get home, relax a little before I hop on for raids at 6pm or so. I raid until 10pm to 10:30, then relax, go to bed, and do the same thing the next day. Had I more time, I would be one of the people that would be helping in various 5mans and quests.
However, I - like many others - do not have enough time in the day to do what we want to do in the game, *and* to help others all the time as well.
Anywho, I know of a few people that are almost always willing to help - talk with Magg/Magiic/Magieck, Allikat, Popplegem (assuming she still plays), and many of the other guildies that you see online at 7pm on a weekday that aren't in a raid.
