Operation: Brutallus
saedo — Thu, 06/05/2008 - 10:15
Brutallus is a fairly simple fight, but very unforgiving. It is a Patchwerk 2.0. A gear check. We need the dps, we need the tanks not to get gibbed, and need the healers to heal through it all in a 6 minute span. Kinda like Archimonde where 1 death can wipe us, though not an obvious quick cascade of deaths like with soul charges, more of a slow grinding halt when the enrage timer creeps up.
He has 10,000,000 hp and a 6 minute enrage timer. That means it requires a 27,778 raid DPS.
It's a 2 tank fight, 7 healers, and the rest will be DPS. So on average, each dps has to output 1737 DPS on their own.
For the most part, it's tank and spank fight like a Teron. So should be one of the better optimal situations for any dps class. Stuff like [Elixir of Demonslaying], [Haste Potion], and [Destruction Potion] should be used liberally.
Abilities:
- Meteor Slash - A 30 yard frontal cone fire attack that does 20,000 damage split among all it hits. Also places a stacking debuff that increases fire damage taken by 75% for 30 seconds. 12 second CD.
- Burn - The new AIDS. A random target fire DOT that that ticks small at first but goes up slowly up to 6000. It also jumps to anybody within 2-3 yards of you during its duration. Can be cloaked, ice blocked, bubbled, resisted. Done approximately every 15 seconds.
- Stomp - Reduces armor of current target by 50% for 10 sec and does about 5K damage on a well geared tank. Removes Burn debuff. 30 second CD.
- Melee - He's a dual wielding boss. Attacks for about 6-8K MH, 3K OH. When the tank is Stomped, he can very well hit for 8-11K MH, 4-5K OH.
- Enrage - After 6 mins, 500% increase to damage, 150% increase to attack speed. Insta-gib!
Strategy:
There will be 3 groups. The melee group, the tank 1 group, and the tank 2 group.
The melee group just humps his butt. No tail lashes or anything. But spread out 2-3 yards all around him to the sides to avoid spreading Burns around.
The rest of the raid splits into half. One of them clumps up behind Tank 1 on one side, the other clumps up behind Tank 2 on the other. This is so you can all be hit by the Meteor Slash and reduce that 20K damage done on tank to a mere 2.5K ish to the raid. Though spread out just a bit while still being in range of the frontal cone attack.
Burn victims. If you can cloak/bubble/block out of it, do it. Otherwise, quickly move out of the group. If you're within 2-3 yards of each other it will spread. Preferably to a side where Brutallus will never be facing. Because the Meteor Slash fire debuff + 6K a tick Burns means you're screwed. This will probably be some assigned spot when we figure out our positioning.
After about 3 Meteor Slashes, the other tank taunts. Basically each tank tanks for about 30 seconds at a time to alllow for the Meteor Slash debuff to wear off.
And that's the fight. 6 mins of this.

my idea on groups Group
Sorreah — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 14:30my idea on groups
Group 1: Hunter (bm), Hunter (surv), Druid (feral), Shaman (resto), Pally (holy)
Group 2: Druid (resto), Druid (feral), Warlock, Warlock, Pally (holy)
Group 3: Warlock, Priest (holy), Mage, Mage, Priest (shadow)
Group 4: Druid (resto), Priest (holy), Mage, Shammy (resto), Priest (shadow)
Group 5: Warrior (fury), Rogue, Rogue, Rogue, Shammy (enhan)
i would make G1 pally eledin since he has the mana issues
and the G4 priest the CoH priest due to mana issues also
our G1 feral druid would be getting the grace of air and the pally aura while G2 would get the imp and tree aura and pally aura which about evens out
i think this covers the classes / specs we bring without wasting much/any synergy and mostly optimizing each person for what they can do
with a WF totem and proper
Sorreah — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 13:02with a WF totem and proper managment a fury warrior should easily be able to sustain his dps with only slight falls for TC
its just a stance dance which is much easier to maintain as dps than prot since you can time it via your rage and own timers rather than the bosses damn decision to fear 8 seconds late
Hmm would rage pots be
saedo — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 11:36Hmm would rage pots be better than haste pots if they have to do the TC dance?
---------------------------------------------
It can, but the difference
Gares of War — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 11:29It can, but the difference of battle and berseker is this:
Berserker gives a 3% crit buff
Battle opens up overpower, thunderclap and mocking blow, but you lose whirlwind(an instant attack), berserker rage,
Unless you spec into tactical mastery, you can lose rage to 10-25 rage (pending spec). It is really not worth the dps loss, of 3% to crit, to stay in; let alone the rage (or potential rage) you lose for not popping berserker rage on cooldown. Also, you lose 10% ap if you are fury specced.
For example, I am at 100 rage, and thunderclap is about to fall off. I have to go from berserker to battle, I would lose anywhere between 75-90 rage. Granted, it is a worst case scenario and if you are not rage starved then it is certainly okay.
most dps warriors are in
Nhia — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 11:25most dps warriors are in Berserker stance. Which doesnt have thunderclap avail. They would have to switch stances, thus losing all but 20 rage (think thats it).
yes, 2 druid tanks. We
Nhia — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 11:24yes, 2 druid tanks. We wont be using a prot warrior in this set up. but yes, the dps warrior will have to switch stances to keep thunderclap up. Shouldnt be hard for a fury warrior especially...since they will prolly get more rage back faster.
Yea only Nuit and Mnor
saedo — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 11:23Yea only Nuit and Mnor tanking from now on. Thought Thunderclap can be done in Battle Stance too though?
---------------------------------------------
Well, I may not be in your
Gares of War — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 11:15Well, I may not be in your raid, but I think that it looks like a good idea.
Does this mean only the ferals are tanks though?
Also, as far as thunderclap goes, it is usually better for the tanking warrior to do it since it is available in defensive stance, a good rage management warrior could stance dance to do it though. The spec to get both is not a big decrease in dps.
So Here is my recommended
Nhia — Thu, 07/17/2008 - 11:02So Here is my recommended grp setup:
Group1: Nhia, Mnor, Nuit, Garreth, Shihli (Surv)
Group2: Sorreah, Chrislow, Closer, Eledin, Kati
Group3: Jorence, Keisjaa, Enixa, Weave, Epat/Tank
Group4: Agoney, Rupter, Karli, Netti, Lumi (BM)
Group5: Saedo, Ewiges, Turth, Shin, FURY warrior (orky or Kybosh)
@ 60%: Agoney switches w/ Closer in grp2.
@ 25%: Nhia switches w/ Closer just for heroism.
(Sorry Closer!!)
This should enable the tanks to keep even more threat w/ Grace of Air and Strength of Earth Totems.
Also, switching in the shadow priest for healers at 60% will help a lot! Since most of the major mana issues were at that point.
Having the Fury warrior will be more beneficial for overall dps. So, either having kybosh or Orky go Fury will cover the shout and the Thunderclap we need plus the dps.
Garr i thought you wanted to
Sorreah — Tue, 07/01/2008 - 12:06Garr i thought you wanted to pull the tree group a bit more towards the tree to create a wider angle
Let's keep the angle between
garreth — Tue, 07/01/2008 - 12:19Let's keep the angle between groups at right about 90 degrees. If anything, we'll move the tree group up the hill a bit more. Just need to make sure that Orky and Nuit can actively melee Brut.
I feel this happening this week.

We should definitely use
Nhia — Tue, 07/01/2008 - 06:58We should definitely use full consumables on any of our future attempts. We def have a strat now. A few tweaks and we have it. Lets do this hard core w/ full consumables and see what we can rly do!! :)
in case garreth needs this
Keisjaa — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 22:00in case garreth needs this at some point:
Kati Epat Sorreah
Star Nuit Antiquite
Weave Netti Jorence
Chris Garr Closer
Nhia Orky Keis
Rupt Karli Tankard

the biggest thing i gained
Sorreah — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 12:34the biggest thing i gained from that vid was their group spread which looks functionly perfect it looks like their 2 tank groups are setup as 3x3 boses with the tanks in the center
giving you a very specific path to the burn spot from each of the other 8 positions without running though anyone just step out of and around the box reguardless of which spot you are in
this accounts for 18 people making a 7 more made up of melee and burn healers
i like it
currently people are to laxed and seem to wander
{I'm using cooler

Shihli — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 09:44(why are we using parentheses?)
Though, need shave it to 7
saedo — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 09:10Though, need shave it to 7 if we want more of that dps.
(let's get to enrage with 8
garreth — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 09:12(let's get to enrage with 8 first)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
(yes i know, just saying not
saedo — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 09:16(yes i know, just saying not to completely depend on 8 and do think how it can work with only 7)
So, basically, we have 3
garreth — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 09:09So, basically, we have 3 shammies chain healing on the main tank plus one holy pally plus one resto druid. That's five main tank healers, which I like :) It's also added Ancestral Fortitude.
Since there is only one tank at a time, the chain heals can technically fully cover BOTH groups, after they've bounced off the MT. Add a CoH priest to top each group off.
Give a holy pally and a resto druid to the burn victims. Bam, 8 healers and we got this.

PS Readme Hamfist.
Agoney — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 08:53PS Readme Hamfist.
I wouldnt use a shammy in g1
Agoney — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 08:52I wouldnt use a shammy in g1 unless we have one extra to spare. Too much of DPS loss elsewhere.
Also, maybe tanks can make 5 seconds til I'm taunting macro, just incase its not heard on vent.
So this is really my first
Agoney — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 08:41So this is really my first time looking at this thread other then a comment here/there.
First, EVERYONE watch this video.
PoV = Kungen, MT Nihilum
Not to ride the nihilum bandwagon, but their strat for this fight is probably the closest you'll get to perfect. If you watch the movie, you should be able to pick up on 100% of what needs to be done to win this fight. The fight is not complicated at all.
Things to notice;
1) Tanking Position.
They tank Brut perpandicularly, so the melee always are behind brut and never have to move.
2) Raid Position.
The raid is assembled around each the tank, with enough space in between where they don't spread burn to each other. When one member gets burn, they can easily step out and run to the burn spot without hitting anyone.
3) Burn Spot/burn healers.
Anyone who is getting burn runs back towards the melee, of course avoiding touching anyone. The melee in back is positioned similiar to how the tank groups are, where they are even spaced out so if they get burn, they dont spread it. And, they should be able to remain stable if they get the burn. Burn healers will be back there as well. A Druid with Stong hots, plus a Holy Paladin will be able to keep them up NP.
4) MT/raid healing (Shamans own this fight).
Healing the tank, you can see 1 Holy Paladin, the 3 resto shaman, and a druid with HoTs on the tank. The CH will bounce off the MT to heal anyone who has taken damage from meteor slash. Add in some CoH from priests on anyone else, GG.
All thats left now is to do 28k raid DPS. Pretty easy if you ask me :P
The Nihilum
garreth — Mon, 06/30/2008 - 08:58nihilum_pve_brutallus_kung.avi
Main tank group: Feral Prot
garreth — Sat, 06/28/2008 - 00:12Main tank group:
Feral
Prot warrior
Imp Devo paladin
Tree
Shammy (agi totem/stoneskin)
Ironshield pots on nonstop cycle for the warrior tanks. We've got to keep ancestral fortitude or inspiration on the tanks at all times.
This fight is literally all about armor and how to max it out. It is recommended to be WAY over the armor cap since stomp drops you down to half armor.

Good advice for Brutallus
garreth — Fri, 06/27/2008 - 23:55Good advice for Brutallus healers:
http://nihilum.mousesports.com/forum/raiding-grounds/13134-healing-bruta...
Basically it goes like this:
Shammies spam healing way on the tanks when they are not chain healing (or chain healing through the tank).
Pallys downrank and spam, but watch their timers for stomp. Time the huge heals for right after stomp.
Four healers always on the the MT: Priest and a pally doing really big heals, another paladin flashing and a druid power HoT'ing.
Shammies can solo heal the aoe damage to their side.
We got this. Full flasks, consumables and everything we possibly can on Monday.
