Time to beat DKs into the Dirt. Discuss your ideas here!
Dragonspear — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 13:29
With Wrath now moving into Beta testing and the NDA lifted for it. I think now is the time to start hammering out what we can about death knights.
It is extremely likely that my main in LK will be changing to a DK, but it is something I do not wish to make for certain until I have played both Ret and DK in Beta. Also I know that Shihli has plans to change to a Deathknight.
With the introduction over, DISCUSS
Dragon's blood leveling spec: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=jiczehfuisogzAoZbcxz
Shihli's Unholy Corpse Explosion Leveling Spec: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=jic0x0bZZbcxzxckxbkVgIVo
Since Death knights will be running off AP modifiers for all of their abilities (and strength being their primary stat) lets also list possible leveling items and consumables.
Flask of Relentless Assault: My plan is to farm up an extra 2 flasks worth of mats every week to set aside for leveling my Death Knight
Ragesteel: Gares was talking about making this set and setting it aside for his Deathknight. (note it has a lvl 70 requirement on it and you may already be in Northrend at this time)
This is all I can think of now. I will edit and update this post as time progresses both with people who wish to make DK their main as well as various insight gained.

Don't tell Shihli to change
Mavandon — Mon, 08/04/2008 - 01:08Don't tell Shihli to change his Death Knight name or ill punch you each in the jaw.
WARNING: This post will probably contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation, it will only waste a few seconds of your life. Mavandon's shenanigans should not be taken by children 10 and under or adults over the age of 70.

I'm debating Draenei, or NE.
Septima — Tue, 07/22/2008 - 17:28I'm debating Draenei, or NE. But...the heally hot, and hit. Wonder if they get spell or melee hit. Hmm.
you can still call me
Shihli — Tue, 07/22/2008 - 12:00you can still call me Shihli. I'll just be a different sort of Shihli ;)
I'm thinking I'll be a Draenei Deathknight. The passive +1% to hit (or spellhit) aura is always awesome no matter how you slice it. Add onto that the racial HoT spell I'd get, shadow resist ... yeah ...
Although if they change the Draenei racial auras, I might go human instead. Expertise and rep grinding and all that.

Gares as far as magic
Dragonspear — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 23:57Gares as far as magic tanking goes. I can see at least dumping enough points into Blood for all the Spell Deflection talents. Especially since the spells you are liable to have to tank are bound to be direct damage. I'm gonna call it right now that i think they will run a 30-40% chance to parry. Therefore im gonna call the Spelltank build as Unholy/Blood.

Unholy is the best leveling

Septima — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 14:28Now see, all they did is go and kill the resto shamies. In any case, I don't know what I'll be playing. I'll probably go with whatever I have the most fun on the night wrath is out.
blood/frost seem more in control of leveling, if it has more "control" aspects. If so, I would probably level as blood/frost. I like being in control of what I'm doing, and not dying.
edit: They can duel weild?! Frost tree, nerves of cold steel. Hrmm.

saedo — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 14:22Hmm is it just me or are the DK trees a bit more akin to a feral druid's tree. Like each tree is capable of tanking to a degree with dps options too. Blood for physical, high in parries, with a bit of magic towards the end. Unholy for magic. Frost for personal survivability with boss debuffs.
But I also need to look at and figure out what each DK ability does first to really understand what the trees are doing. lol

Gares of War — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 14:01I will probably opt for the unholy tree, but I have been less focused on farming as I have been with how to maximize tanking talent points and raid dps.
I mean is heart strike raid viable in any stretch of the imagination? I highly doubt it works on bosses (reduces max health by 20% for 15 secs). But does it work on mobs. I also wish I knew more how much damage a well micro managed pet can do.
Also, it appears as if there are two tank types you can opt for. Frost/blood is tanky tanky for physical while Frtos/unholy is the more magic tank area.
I also see very little int he terms of dual wielding scaling with damage compared to a two hander. I would have to check but it appears that frost will favor dual wielding tanks while unholy and blood are two hander types.
Also, I would have taken the gargoyle in unholy. but I need to read more into how much runic power you have and the rate that runes generate it.

Shihli — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 13:35Rumor from Jadefire says the following about each talent tree:
Blood - good for single-target sustainable dps, very good for farming/leveling
Frost - not as strong for leveling as the "meat" of the tree is towards the bottom of the tree (read: high level requirements), however it has a LOT of control aspects and will likely play VERY well with frost mages.
Unholy - another strong farming/leveling tree, less emphasis on single-target high-physical damage and more emphasis on AoE's, disease use, and DK spells in general.
Also looks like Butchery and Vendetta will be quinessential levelling talents, so most DK's up to 80 will likely be a 17+/x/x spec.
