Pumping Brutallus!

Cisper's picture

Cisper — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 23:23

I know you guys have had some REALLY clutch Brutallus attempts, so from what I've read, seen and heard, hope any of this can help with pushing it over the edge.

 Taken from: http://wowwebstats.com/n11dghenaizn5?s=5014-5259 (5.3 Million Attempt, 13%~).

DPS Wise, a lot of consumables need to be used (You can see from the Restore Mana, different classes opting for Mana Potions vs. Spell Damage Potion, which in the long run can help obviously for longlasting DPS).

Heals on tanks should only be hots from Druids, no Renews. Need to use the Greater Heal/Holy Light like mad. I know conventially you can have 3 Priests/Paladins non-stop spamming Max Rank GH/HL on the tank (Swapping as needed), and give them a Spriest. Along with hots, should be enough, pending on gear + Survivability, may need a 4th. Should leave 4 healers, 1 for each side for the meteor, 2 for burns.

This'll require spamming Mana Pots (on Cooldown), but spamming those heals 95% of the time keeps the tanks up, obviously sometimes they dip (eating a stun usually), setting up a Nature Swiftness Rotation from the Druids/Shamans can help fill in the gap.

For grouping stack, using a Retadin like Hbk can definetly help with the blessings and the bonus damage for the melee, as is the obvious Windfury. An elemental Shaman does wonders for a Warlock/Mage group, but obviously in short supply on Gorgonnash. Having the fuzzy bearz Mnor & Nuit can mean the extra 5% crit for the melee, aswell the heals. Might be worth having Mnor+Orky tank so that you can have a feral with melee - make the Two tanks are in a Holy Paladin + Resto Druid group for the mitigation, Imp shouldn't be necessary, nor Shaman (Stam bonus/Agi).

Make sure you have Resto Shamans + Casters & Healers, between Nhia & Jorence (no more Cali :*(), you can have Two Solid Healer Groups (Tank Group, Tank+Tank+RestoDruid+Paladin+?) and then the other 6 healers ( 2 shamans ) make two 3 member groups, which you can fit in a Spriest each, and a mage each. This shafts Warlocks, hoping to get them in with a BM Hunter, preferabbly a Shaman, but you can only make do.

At a 9% attempt, its clear that synchronisation is solid with heals, knowing where to and the rotation between tanks. It's now a matter of burning cash and making sure everything is clicked well (Like Shihli's ZA Run) everyone is directly benefitted somehow. Burn the cash on those Pots, fully oiled, fed and flasked and pop Heroism, Spell Damage & Mana Potions continuously and win! T6 Belts and a massive relief over a shit and spontaneous boss.

All the best!

I realize getting hit is

Sorahn — Mon, 07/28/2008 - 16:09

I realize getting hit is random and that getting hit doesn't mean you're not going to get hit again.  I'm just saying that in a one minute period you're less likely to get hit than in a two minute period simply because he's going to do fewer Burns in that period.  This assumes that he's doing Burns on a predicatable timer which I believe he is.

So it comes down to gambling.  Do you think you'll get > 1 burn in a fight or not?  It's only happened to me once.  That may be a fluke.  If you only get burn one time, it would be stupid to not use iceblock to reduce casting downtime.   If you get > 1 burn, that's when things get interesting and you can play games on when is best.

Some quick back of the napkin calculation shows that I'd lose about 146 DPS by running over to get healed vs using iceblock (assuming 30 secs movement time and 1750 DPS).  In all but one pull, to date, I would have been stupid to not ice block.

If we decide that having mages save their iceblocks for the last minute is the way to go, that's fine but we need to make that call knowing the DPS implications.

I think that over time we'll gear out more and will be much more able to aborb the cost of not using iceblock.  For now, though, we're pushing the limits and I think we need to maximize our DPS as much as possible.   Personally, for the time being, I'd rather gamble that we're not going to get Burned > 1 time instead of taking a guaranteed 146 DPS loss.

The only problem with that

Shihli — Mon, 07/28/2008 - 15:03

The only problem with that model, Sorahn, is that it's assuming that if you eat a Burn, you're somehow less likely to eat another one.

Random Burns are random.

My co-worker here that's running BT with his guild ate THREE "Shadow of Death" from Teron in a row.  He got the first one, had a soulstone, rezzed after his constructs were down ... got it AGAIN, killed his constructs, got a brez ... then got it AGAIN.

You can't really assume that if you get hit once, you're less likely to get hit again.

Your model also doesn't account for people running through other people while Burning.

To date, I've only been hit

Sorahn — Mon, 07/28/2008 - 14:35

To date, I've only been hit with burn twice in a fight one time.  While it's an option to only pop iceblock in the 1st minute or so, I don't think it's worth it - from a DPS perspective anyway.  The time that I did get burned twice, I spent quite a bit of time running over to the heal spot (and back - since I didn't die :)).  Most of that time is spent with near 0 dps since I need to be stationary to cast.  If I lose 20-30 secs for movement, that will lower my overall dps quite a bit.  Especially considering that if I use iceblock, I only actually have about 1GCD worth of downtime.

To make the call here, I think we'd need to figure out some odds.  Effectively, what are the odds that in any one minute timeframe will someone get hit with Burn?  I never took statistics so this could be wildly off, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Let's say it's 5% (total guess).  That means that at the start of the fight, you'd have a ~30% chance of getting Burn sometime in the fight.  If you make it through the 4th minute of the fight, you'd still have a 10% chance of getting Burned before enrage.

Now, if I get Burned 2 mins from enrage, I actually have a pretty small chance of getting hit again in that last minute.  So it seems to make more sense for me to iceblock and get that guaranteed 30 secs of DPS vs not blocking for the 5% chance that I might need it later...

What has amused me is there

karlizeth — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 13:35

What has amused me is there have been at least 3 attempts now when I have had to use Cold Snap to get rid of a second Burn because Ice Block wasn't off cooldown yet.  I dunno though, I think it's a good thing.  My IB reflexes are lightening fast; I've usually already blocked before I hear someone call it out.  I do feel bad for Sorahn and Netti when they get it a second time.

Hmm - What your last comment

Dufe — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 13:11

Hmm - What your last comment says to me is that the potential advantage comes in the form of time savings, not so much mana savings. There is extra cast time at the start that can be used to heal burns without issue; however as the fight progresses, cast time becomes more precious as there is more healing that needs to be done. Thus by using the slack time at the beginning and saving invulnerability cd's, you are able to free up more healer cast time at a point in the fight where it's more scarce. That does make some sense.

Also keep in mind that in a 6 minute fight, some such cd's may be usable twice in the fight, but only if they're popped very early. Tough call.

Quick and easy rule: If

garreth — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 13:19

Quick and easy rule:

If you're a paladin or a mage, blow your block/bubble if you get burn within the first 60 seconds of the fight (well, 50 seconds).

That way you've got the option to pop it again in the last minute before enrage, when shit starts to hit the fan. Many, many times I wished a mage had a block when 3 people had burn in the last 2 minutes...

before the first burn the

Sorreah — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 13:02

before the first burn the burn healer are ussualy on the tanks the tanks dont need much if any help early so the burn healers are either healing just because or able to sit and regen when they are already nearly full

i full recognize this as a double edged sword but one that we could work to our best advantage

hence the last paragraph in my previous post

Spriest regen range is never

Sorreah — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 12:34

Spriest regen range is never an issue ever

i did have an observation about burns

when we are first starting and he does his first burn or 2 and people who can immune get it i was thinking they should take the burn some times

in the beginning healing is never an issue

everyone has all their tricks mana is full deaths are not a problem why use the special save mana and healing options at this point

say eledin gets first burn. he has no slashes because of his current placement tanks are all fine

why not just let him keep the burn get some extra mana from the heals and move on, if he gets it later in a more clutch situation he still has the bubble

my only goal here would be to say that the immunes we have don't need to be mindlessly clicked as soon as you see burn on you, like any other tool at your disposal it may be best used with a second of thought

not to pick on eledin just a random immune name

It seems that healing a vurn

Dufe — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 12:47

It seems that healing a vurn vic will take the same amount of mana regardless of when in the fight it occurs.  By saving mana early, you have more avail at the end.  By saving cd's till the end you spend mana early.  It's all the same really.  Difference is, it's possible a person with invulnerability might not get burn twice in a fight.  If they try to save their cd's for later in the fight, it may end up "wasted."

Nuitarin — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 22:52

On another note, would we be able to talk Nhia into specing into Enhancing Totems? +15% Agility from the Grace of Air totem to bring it up to 88 agility (increase of 11). Thats ~1% more dodge for the tanks.

How about switching Shihli

Disrupter — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 01:12

How about switching Shihli and Keisjaa? Wouldn't that allow for a shorter walk time for Keisjaa, and thus, less mana regen lost for his group?

That and , assuming rupta, he'd never lose the crit buff. While, if I get burned, he would, and perhaps lose his regen. What is the range of a shadow priests "regen" btw?

I don't know what the range

Dufe — Fri, 07/25/2008 - 07:21

I don't know what the range technically is, but I've gotten regen from my spriest in the past on Lurker when they were on the far opposite platform.  So it's pretty far.

Two things I am concerned

Nuitarin — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 22:33

Two things I am concerned about with the group positioning diagram.

1) The distance between Nhia's totems and Lumi should be less than 30 yards. I know she has a hard time laying them so that Minor gets them and Lumi is positioned a bit behind Minor. We might be able to switch Keis and Lumi's position.

2) The distance between Keis and Rupta should be less than 30 yards. If Keis is getting out of range, doing the position switch with Lumi will make it worse. I don't really see how to solve this unless we make one side have one more person soaking than the other side.

Other than those two things, it looks good.

Said this multiple times,

Keisjaa — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 15:13

Said this multiple times, the BF vs Fury thing is a matter of displaced DPS, Blood frenzy gives all melee a buff where fury keeps most of the DPS for himself.

Dual wield Fury will hit a LOT harder in execute range as you hit with 2 weapons instead of 1 slower one(I believe it's usually advised to execute spam with 2 1h's, assuming it's comparable lvl weapons)

Fury is also(in my experience) a LOT easier to deal with, spam shit as it comes off CD's(there's actually a general rotation that becomes automatic) I know Ky's build makes him stare at his swing timer/Slammer for when to do what)

if he's willing to try it have him go fury for a night & compare numbers(preferably with a GOOD sub 10% attempt or two in to see execute range dps)

Can Ky post here with what weapons he dual wields as fury?

[item]Cataclysm's Edge[/item] is what he uses for a 2H

The weapons I currently have

Kybosh — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 21:14

The weapons I currently have for Fury are

[blade of infamy] and [rising tide]

I also have [item]vanir's right fist of brutality[/item] but it's not enchanted and I'm 15 badges short of the off-hand.

As far as using two weapons for execute, if you're specced for two-handers, you yield more dps when executing with the 2 hander if you can get a heroism and pop a haste pot.

I'd be happy to go fury if that's what is asked of me. Although it will require re-gemming a lot of my gear, and I currently just don't have the money or badges to get make up for the loss of blood frenzy by Friday.

saedo — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 14:46

Well I told him last night that the Blood Frenzy he brings is about 400 raid dps.    So to go fury, he'd have to exceed that number personally to not lose the raid dps.

Kybosh was 1600+ on a few

karlizeth — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 14:44

Kybosh was 1600+ on a few attempts we did last night, and some of those were before he was in execute (20% HP) range.

He said he didn't have full consumables, namely the Demon elixir thing.  I told him I'd farm him some Gromsblood and Ghost Mushrooms on my priest when I have some time over the weekend.  He has broken 1500 dps on several attempts.  One in particular that lasted a total of 6 1/2 minutes, his dps was over 1600 (Try 9).

If you flip through the reports where we did the most damage you'll see he's doing alright, but admittedly, could be doing better.

He's also bantered around with the idea of going dual wield, because his personal dps would be better.  I'll bug him to poke his head in this thread tonight.

Shit, I didn't realize Dark Runes were that helpful to healers.  I just dug a bunch of them out of my bank and put them on the AH before I left for work this morning.  If they are still there when I get home I'll cancel my auctions and put them in the guild bank.

Your options for items that

Shihli — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 14:16

Your options for items that restore mana and are separate from the CD of mana pots:

1)  [Demonic Rune] - I can show you guys easy-ass places to farm these.  On a good day it takes about 30-40min to farm up a full stack.  It sucks but it's the single best off-pot mana restore in-game.

2)  [Dark Rune] - only drops in Scholomance, rare drop.  Can also find on the AH sparingly.

3)  [Luminous Bluetail] - found in [Bloated Giant Sunfish] rarely, caught off the coast of Isle of Quel'danas.

4)  [item]Night Dragon's Breath[/item] - obtainable from doing some quests and farming in Felwood.  Used to be my bread-and-butter before the sweeping consumable changes back in vanilla WoW.

5)  [Tea with Sugar] - can only ever get 3 charges, obtained from the end of a quest chain in Eastern Plaguelands.

6)  [Razorlash Root] - drops off Razorlash in Maraudon.

There are a few other items but these are the big'uns.

If all the stars alligned ,

Disrupter — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 14:34

If all the stars alligned , 1650ish dps, assuming key drops from SSC and ZA. I'll definite be getting 50 more, because I had underestimated treants, and over estimated my threat prodcution. (Will discuss that when I get to the point I'm losing damage, due to threat.)

We would also get more raid dps, out of 'rupta, by throwing 3 warlocks/spriest with me like we had been doing. Lose 30-40 dps on a warlock, by putting a healer with me instead. We do gain healing, inspiritation procs, etc. Valueing a Moonkin is so hard :P.

We'll see, no idea for sure.
