Lurgen's Application

Submitted by Lurgen on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 10:48.

Character Info
Information about the character.
Character Name:
Lurgen
Race:
Gnome
Character Class:
Warlock
Character Level:
lvl 70
Total play time at level 70:
20 days in game, about 8 months total.
Total play time:
39 days, 19 hours.
Average play time per week:
Every day, about 50 hours a week on average.
Good computer/internet connection?:
Yes
What is your average latency?:
~120ms and around 25 fps if you needed that too :).
Server you are currently on:
Gorgonnash
How long have you been on the above server?:
About two years if I'm not mistaken.
Link to your armory profile:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Gorgonnash&n=Lurgen
Raiding
What talent build do you use to raid?:
I use the Destruction build. In Mutiny I was told that I was always top 10 or even top 5 in DPS in our 25-mans when I was affliction, but when I switched to the Destruction build I was told i was always top 5, most of the time top 3, and about half the time even the top DPS in the raid. Destruction is my build as a 21/40. I found this website better to link my build at. ---> http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Gorgonnash&n=Lurgen
What role are you most comfortable/geared playing?:
DPS
Tell us a little about how your class contributes to a raid.:
I am very helpful damage-wise and I will always have healthstones ready and soulstones ready for whoever needs them. I will understand fights and I know how to play my character very well.
Would it be a problem if you had to wait 3 weeks or 3 months to get into raid?:
I would personally love to raid because that is the top asset I love about this game. I might be disappointed if it would take that long to raid but I am also coming into the guild for friendships. I already know a few people in there (Encounter, Josalin, Nikkyta) so I will not be a complete stranger. Also, if I could have the opportunity to show you what i can do with my warlock, perhaps this will not be an issue :).
List the instances you have experience in, and the farthest you have been in that instance.:
I have experience in Gruul's Lair (full clear), Magtheridon's Lair (full clear), Karazhan (full clear), Zul'Aman (full clear), Tempest Keep (Everyone but Kil'jaeden downed), and Serpentshrine Cavern (Hydross the Unstable and The Lurker Below downed). I have played the role of DPS in all of these places and I am always told that I do a great job with my damage and skill.
What is your favorite 25-man BC Boss encounter, and why?:
I would probably say Al'ar, the Phoenix God in Tempest Keep. I love this fight because it is not like the others. In the first phase, I can go all out on DPS because there is no agro pulling and I personally like how you think he is dead when he hits 0%, but then he revives and you have to kill him a second time. I really love this fight, it is a lot of fun and it makes you really pay attention to everything that is going on.
What is your least favorite 25-man BC Boss encounter, and why?:
I do not really "hate" any 25-man bosses, so if I could include 10-mans, it would have to be Shade of Aran. I do not like this boss because, first of all, the trash clearing to him takes, what it seems like, a century. There are too many pulls to get to him. Also, in his fight there is too much running around, either getting out from the arcane explosion, avoiding the blizzard, or fearing/banishing his elementals. I do not really enjoy this boss fight at all. :)
General Questions
List your pertinent alts, as well as their classes and levels:
Xerique, lvl 13 Warrior....Kaervak, lvl 7 Priest.....Bavarius, lvl 3 Druid..... Anaxiar, lvl 15 Rogue.....Buranos, lvl 14 Shaman.....Tiborius, lvl 22 Hunter
Is this app for your main alone, or would you like to bring alts over as well?:
Main only
Why should we recruit you?:
I am a very hard worker when it comes to this game and I am always on time for raids, etc. I will promise to work hard to climb the ranks and become top DPS like I was in Mutiny. It would be great to be in Downfall because Mutiny has betrayed some of my friends so I want to have a new start. One of the people was Encounter, my friend who is in Downfall and he recommended this guild so I will be excited to see what happens :). I wish I could link my damage meters but do not have any screenshots to link in here, sorry!
Why have you chosen to apply to Downfall?:
I am hoping to join Downfall for raiding, to meet old friends again, and to make new friends.
What do you expect to get out of Downfall membership?:
I hope to make new relationships with people and hopefully even learn some new boss fights and be able to participate in them.
How do you feel you will contribute to the downfall community?:
I will help others with whatever they need if I have time, which I normally do. If someone needs me for an instance, i can help. If they need me to check something for them, I'm there. If they need a loan of money or something, if I do have it on me, its theirs.
Do you have any references in Downfall?:
Encounter, Josalin
How long do you intend to stay in Downfall?:
I intend to stay in Downfall for as long as it is running. I can't wait to see that happens :)
What things might cause you to leave?:
People being rude to me and not respecting me, but i can take constructive criticism.
If you are applying to raid, which nights can you raid?:
Monday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Anything else you would like to add?:
The dates for raiding, I would like to clue you in on. In two weeks i end my job, so I will be able to raid every day for two weeks until August 28, when school starts. When school starts, I will only be able to raid Friday, Saturday, and Sunday unless the raid times in the week are fairly early, then I will be able to raid the weekdays. This is only because I live in Pennsylvania, so I am 3 hours ahead of server time. Thank you! :)
Are you going to burn out?:
Yes
What timezone are you in?:
Eastern Standard Time (+3 hours)
How often do you think you would have to miss raid?:
Barely ever, I have a lot of time on my hands and no girlfriend to fill that time space :).
What might the typical reasons for missing raid be?:
I do take jiu-jitsu monday, wendesday, and friday nights. Fridays should still be ok for me to raid as long as my parents drive me home quickly :)
Read everything here: http://www.downfallguild.org/loot Does that seem fair?:
It seems very fair, also for the next question, I do not know who Shihli is, but i mainly laugh at anything :).
If Shihli tells a joke (good or bad), will you laugh?:
Yes
Your ass, or a hole in the ground?:
My ass
UI
How do you feel about mods, particularly in a raid setting?:
I like to use mods, they help me with my DPS, especially DoTimer. I have DoTimer, Titan Panel, Atlas, AtlasLoot Enhanced, Omen Threat Meter, and Cartographer
Please post a screenshot of your UI:
WoWScrnShot_072808_134517.jpg
Are you willing to change mods that don't interface well with ours in raid?:
Yes
Personal
How long have you been playing WoW?:
About two years online, started when I was about 12 or 13.
How old are you?:
16
Tell us about yourself.:
I am a 16 year old Rower for my school. I get good grades (doubt if that matters :)) and I am a hard worker with whatever I do.
Are you in school or working?:
In school, working for the summer.
Any other significant hobbies?:
Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Working out.
What Country/State do you live in?:
United States, Pennsylvania

Well-spoken, particularly for a 16-year-old.  But jiu-jitsu?  Aww man, Americanized Japanese FTL.  Jujutsu, please.

(I'm a martial arts snob)

Overall I can't say we have a lot of space, but as per what we usually say on these sorts of apps, make your presence known on the site and sign up for the oft-run Karazhan and "mAlt" Gruul/Magtheridon runs.

I just have a few quick

Submitted by Aidin on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 11:32.

I just have a few quick things for you.

1. you said "I would personally love to raid because that is the top asset I love about this game. I might be disappointed if it would take that long to raid but I am also coming into the guild for friendships."

With your available times, you would never really see anything outside of Gruul/Mag or maybe an occasional SSC/TK if you had the gear and dps to do so. We have 25 man raiding locks coming out of our ears, and a line a mile long waiting for their shot at BT and SW.

How do you feel about this?

2. You mentioned Encounter, Josalin, and Nikkyta.

I'm gonna be frank here, and I really hope I don't upset anyone. Encounter has been in the guild for quite some time, and no one has a clue who he is. I run the older 25 content with my husband, and he's never even stepped foot in with us (even though I've prompted him to sign up), I don't even know if he's bothered running 5 mans. Nikkyta hasn't shown his face in ages...he just went poof. Jossy is da bomb...but using Encounter and Nikkyta for references kinda makes me go...meh...he won't be around or participate in the community. How can we be sure you aren't another Nikkyta or Encounter?

I havent been grilling new

Submitted by Shinzwei on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 11:49.

I havent been grilling new apps in awhile but here goes. You say you would be disappointed if it took a long time for you to raid. Sorry to disappoint you but if you are invited into guild you wont see much besides the raids you've already done. On our off nights there are tons of Kara, ZA, and an assload of 5 mans going on. We have a long line of new recruits and guildies who would love to do Black Temple and Hyjal so dont get your hopes up of seeing those instances.

Reading your app there were a few times you say you were top 10, top 5, and even top 3. So you're pretty confident about what you do. Our locks in guild are veterans and would put you to shame. But thats obvious because they are all sporting T6 gear.

I see alot of "I want to join Downfall and meet new friends, help out with whatever I can" and blah blah blah. We have had lots join Downfall and leave because they cant raid. They think that when they get accepted into an end game raiding guild that we will gear them up with T6 gear. Thats not how things work around here. Maybe I'm taking my frustration out on you but whatever.

You answered yes to the "Would you ever burn out" quetsion. How and why?An explanation would be helpful or else you would just be another recruit who had to quit due to life issues. Thats a very legitimate reason and who am I to tell you that a game is more important than life. We dont want to waste our time and yours if you know you're going to burn out.  I know I'm being hard but if you cant take me ripping you a new one during the application process then you wouldnt wanna see it in green text.

Hmm what else am I leaving out. Anyways if you have high hopes of seeing end game just because you may sport the <Downfall> tag ontop of your head I would suggest you look elsewhere.

Submitted by Josalin on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 13:27.

Nikkyta went home for the summer(he's in college) where his parents have pretty much kept him from logging in. He's actually pretty sad that he hasn't been able to play, and keeps asking me how everyones doing.

I really don't know whats going on with Encounter either, since he really doesn't say anything in gchat, and hasn't really talked to me either.

Lurgen is a good kid though, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind just don't the SSC/TK's gruul/mag, whatever when he was needed.

He asked me tons of questions pre-app, and honestly seemed really excited, and worried about how he should word things. He really put a lot of thought into apping.

Yeah, jiu-jitsu (I honestly think that is how its spelled) is a lot of fun.  It has taught me many great moves and techniques so I am a lot more confident in myself since I started :).

For the first question

Submitted by Lurgen on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 17:27.

For the first question Aidin, I would just be happy that I am doing raids, I do not expect to just jump into the more experienced raids.  The guild I am in currently is even having trouble getting into our 25-man raids.  I would be ok with Gruul, Mag, SSC, and TK just fine because its just a game and I'm here to have fun and meet new people also. :)

For the second question, you can trust me on this, I will always be up for running stuff as long as I have the time, which I usually do.  I am a social player and can do whatever people throw at me.

Thanks for the comments everyone! :)

Responding to Shinzwei's

Submitted by Lurgen on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 17:40.

Responding to Shinzwei's comment here, for you first paragraph, I understand completely and I do not expect to get into BT and Hyjal for a long time, but like I said in the application, I would like to prove myself that I can be great in the raids.

For your third paragraph, i understand about that also, but I am not like those people.  I can take not raiding if need be but like I keep saying, I would like to prove myself so that maybe I can achieve into the raids.

For your fourth paragraph,  the only reasons I would ever burn out in a raid (this doesn't apply to weekend raids, only weekday raids) is because I would either have school the next day or work the next day.

Thanks for the comment. :)

/facepalm Here's a little

Submitted by Shihli on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 18:00.

/facepalm

Here's a little martial arts history lesson for ya!

Jujutsu started with the samurai in Japan, as a way of defending themselves when using a sword was impossible or impractical (such as in a government building).  The art of Jujutsu is, therefore, something around 400-600 years old.

Brazilian Jujutsu was started by the Gracie family, as a way of defending oneself with your bare hands, but designed such that anyone of any size or shape could make good use of it.  Brazilian Jujutsu started in 1914.

Submitted by Caronte22 on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 18:22.

don't forget Judo and Bartitsu

Jujutsu was first introduced to Europe in 1899 by Edward William Barton-Wright , who had studied  Tenjin Shinyō-ryū and Shinden Fudo Ryu in Yokohama and Kobe , respectively. He had also trained briefly at the  Kodokan in Tokyo. Upon returning to england he folded the basics of all of these styles, as well as boxing, savate and French stick fighting , into an eclectic self-defence system called Bartitsu.

Submitted by Dikymo on Thu, 07/31/2008 - 12:12.

How long have you been playing WoW?:

About two years online, started when I was about 12 or 13.

How old are you?:

16

I lol'd.

Schedule and raid will be in total conflict once school starts. Hamfist is 9:30 to 1:30 our time. lf1m is 9 to 12. all on school nights. Malt/smash and grab might be an option for you but thats up to Grasen and Aidin.

As for gear. Spellstrike set + 2 piece t4 bonus is the most op combo in the game at your gear level. Blessings deck trinket would be another good upgrade. Gem and enchant that new chest.

Did you have another account? Seems like a very small amount of time played considering the length of time you have been in game.

Thank you for the response Dikymo, and what I meant on the time playing comment was, I started when I was about 12 or thirteen, played my character on the Shadowmoon server.  I eventually quit the game, came back after a while, and have been back since so that answers your next question, I did have another account but that guy is long gone.  I will look into the spellstrike set also but I will need to farm a lot to get the mats and as for the chest, I actually just received it so ill gem it asap :). Thank you!

Haha yes, thank you very much for taking me along last night, it was a lot of fun.  Also, in my defense, when we went for Mag, I did not have Salv on me so that was why I was pulling so much threat.  Also, I still had "Soulshatter" handy, so I wasn't worried about pulling agro :).

Don't be afraid to holler at the pallies for slackin!!! If you don't have salv, that's a no no! Paladins are using a mod which should make keeping buffs up pretty effortless.
