ROFLMAO @ Heroes
Gares of War — Wed, 08/06/2008 - 07:56
So, I was considering if the next season of Heroes was worth watching. The break from it has really disenchanted me to thw show. I did think of something interesting though unless it is a wonderous plothole.
Spoilers warning
Caitlin was the irish girl who Peter was with for part of season 2. They were accidentally teleported to a future (changed from President Sylar as you should have noticed, same 5 year skip). were people were dying to a disease. Well, he accidentally teleported without her to the present. Furthermore, he sort of forgot about her when Adam was all like "Hey let's savez the wurld!". Saving the world, the Adam way would have generated the future she was trapped in, but he averted it. He ERASED the future he put her in. Now, with timetravel there are multiple avenues considered: Friends die in the present, fix past so friends exit again; no future changes save for your own, alternate realities spring forth; or the latter, you change the future, the future never happens.
There are examples of both in Heroes without stating which has more ground (theroy wise) over the other. Wtihout the future, they (Hiro and Peter) would have been unable to fix the present and deletion of the future in question would cause a paradox. BUT, at the same note, they teleport to different futures in season one and two. The same 5 year skip in season two is not the same as in season one. So, this seems to point that even if alternate realities are possible, they are unable to go to them. So, erm, she is either trapped forever OR, probably the worse fate, has ceased to be, not dead, her existence is gone. . .yep soul destroyed no combat rez or spirit rez for her.
Thoughts?

Caronte22 — Wed, 08/06/2008 - 16:08main question is how does time change if you affect the past
does it change like in (
A Sound of Thunder) A basic principle in the movie is that every wave of time has another
step in evolution, such that first weather changes, then plants, then
insects, then larger creatures.
Or does time change (Back to the Future) meaning once something happens it start to happen without no one noticing it happened.
Also on the topic of the girl Caitlin she could still be alive and just be in a time change world.

Gares of War — Wed, 08/06/2008 - 12:09Well, I think her suddenly appearing in a new world rather than be digested by the temporal lysosome is a better way to consider it. It was just something to thing about, if she is never seen again, well, we have a temporal garbage disposal theory.
It has to be back in time
Ardea — Wed, 08/06/2008 - 11:19It has to be back in time because the prospects of manipulating your current existence are much more tantalizing than affecting some random copy universe.
I think the resulting effect could be that the world would instantly change to what it would have been had there never been a plague of mass destruction... Let's hope she is not standing in the middle of a large intersection when it does.
Memory-wise she would remember everything that happened in the past (before time jump) and the memories of the plague aftermath will be replaced with memories of what (would have) happened time jumping to a place with no plague... ultimately driving her to be an insane hero killer.
Is it actually back in
jaibyrd — Wed, 08/06/2008 - 10:07Is it actually back in time? I always thought it was a multiverse with all the times at the same time, not 2 choices only. That is just so so so 2 dimensional and we live in a many dimensional universe. I think I'm living those other lives now. God I hope in one of em I'm less dorky.
Yes, I like to heal. No, I've never been shadow.

If I go back in time to stop
Ardea — Wed, 08/06/2008 - 09:41If I go back in time to stop myself from doing the thing that gives me cause to go back in time I will not have any reason to go back in time... therefore I wouldn’t... but then I will... then I wont... I would probably go back anyways, knowing that I had already met myself… I could give myself further updates to further complicate future selves… I think after 50 pages of notes I will lose interest.
I know that I will never time travel, because I have memorized specific times and dates of events that I would change... since those events haven't changed or since I have not met my future self with a convenient book that holds the scores for all the major sporting events over the next 20 years... hmm, Maybe I am arrested by the Time Cops.
Peter’s main motivation in helping Adam was to fix the future so his chick will not die a painful death from the plague that he started by helping Adam…
I think it is like taking 45 seconds to smash a metal vault door when you can just walk right through it.
If I ever met the future me I would challenge him to wizard dual… I think it would be a cool way to find out if I ever develop powers.
Edit: Wait, what was the question?

saedo — Wed, 08/06/2008 - 09:07Probably lost forever in an alternate inaccessible future reality which can be blamed on the writers!
Spoilers:
They did show 1 ep of the new season of Heroes at Comic-Con, and assuming they don't re-tune it by the time they air it.... They do yet another time-skip where a good guy is evil now. With the future evil one going back to destroy the present good guys. lol So more paradoxes shall be created!

karlizeth — Wed, 08/06/2008 - 09:11Well now that Gares has brought mighty science to Heroes, I don't have a whole lot to say other than that chick seemed pretty shady so I bet the writers bring her back somehow, and I kinda doubt it will end up really making sense or fit in logically.
