Achievement
Caronte22 — Thu, 08/07/2008 - 14:21
Wrath of the Lich King will introduce a major new gameplay feature: the Achievements System.
Here is a general overview of the Achievements System:
- The System will launch with over 500 Achievements.
- New Achievements will be added with each content patch.
- Achievements can be viewed upon inspection of another player or through the online Armory.
- Every time a new Achievement is earned...
- A special sound and animation will occur.
- The Achievement will be announced to the player's guild and to everyone in the area.
- Each Achievement earned will give the players a certain amount of Achievement Points.
- No information is available on how these Points will be used.
- Some Achievements will also give rewards. These will be "purely cosmetic and just for fun." Examples include:
- Vanity pets.
- Titles.
- Tabards.
- Feats of Strength will be a sub-section of the Achievements system.
- Feats celebrate accomplishments in old-world Azeroth, some of which are no longer available.
- Feats give no Achievement Points.
- Feats will be applied retroactively for those who have completed the requirements.
- The Achievement System will feature a unique, trackable UI. (See the Images tab for details.)
There will be several different categories of achievements, including:
- General Achievements
- Collecting vanity items.
- Fun or "whimsical" goals.
- World/Zone Exploration Achievements

saedo — Thu, 08/07/2008 - 15:23Well it didn't say they'd scan your gear to determine old boss kills. Just quest completions if they existed.

I knew it would come in handy :)

Retroactive
Caronte22 — Thu, 08/07/2008 - 14:22Retroactive Achievements
"We did a pass and checked quests associated with dungeon boss kills.
In an upcoming Beta build, you'll see that you'll get some dungeon/raid
achievements granted retroactively. Not all dungeons and raids have
quests associated with them so some players will still have to re-do
the content. For example, there are no quests that validate the boss
kills in Slave Pens or Blood Furnace.
Also, keep in mind that in cases such as Onyxia or Zul'jin, not every raid member got quest credit for the quest item drop.
We figured it was better to try to reward credit wherever possible.
Retrieving Destroyed Items
In order to help players complete the relevant achievements, Devs
have plans to allow players to re-acquire Key, Tabard, and Vanity Pet
items they may have destroyed in the past and have no other way to
recover.
From Tigole on WotLK Forums Re: Unobtainable Achievements.
"We're
making all of the old keys obtainable if you deleted them. Same goes
for pets and tabards. For keys, talk to a Locksmith. For Pets, talk to
a stable master. For tabards, go to the tabard vendor.
It's important to note that this ONLY works for pets/tabards/keys that
cannot be obtained again by the player. This means that if a pet was a
rare drop and you deleted it, you'll need to farm for it again."
