Primeight DF guild app.

Prime8 — Sat, 09/13/2008 - 07:54

Character Info
Information about the character.
Character Name:
Primeight
Race:
Draenai
Character Class:
Shaman
Character Level:
lvl 70
Total play time at level 70:
24 days, 21 hours, 55 minutes
Total play time:
40 days, 19 hours, 55 minutes
Average play time per week:
20 hours
Good computer/internet connection?:
Yes
What is your average latency?:
130ish
Server you are currently on:
Gorgonnash
How long have you been on the above server?:
~2 years
Raiding
What talent build do you use to raid?:
0/7/54 usually. Occasionally I will spec 0/44/17 for dps. Resto: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hZx0bZyfxtAxstcd Enhance: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=hZxqbdV0sAuqoV0eu
Tell us a little about how your class contributes to a raid.:
Shaman really focus on utility. They buff their group's dps, reduce damage taken, regen mana, and remove certain debuffs. Resto shaman can be extremely powerful healers by healing multiple targets at once.
What role are you most comfortable/geared playing?:
Healing
Would it be a problem if you had to wait 3 weeks or 3 months to get into raid?:
It wouldn't be a problem waiting to get into end game raids. I respect that you give spots to the people who have put in the work to get into those raids. On the other hand, I would be disappointed if I never had anyone to play with.
List the instances you have experience in, and the farthest you have been in that instance.:
KZ (full), ZA (full), Mags (full), Gruuls (full), TK (VR only).
What is your favorite 25-man BC Boss encounter, and why?:
Unfortunately I don't have much experience with 25-mans. At this point I'd have to say its Void Reaver, because its the freshest content for me and my specific class/spec really shines in that encounter. I also really enjoy the voice acting for VR.
What is your least favorite 25-man BC Boss encounter, and why?:
Gruuls Lair: High King. Its difficult to get the initial pull right, and I've mostly pugged/gkp'ed it. This can make for a lot of wipes. Special mention here for Shade of Aran, even though its a 10-man encounter. Please stop moving during flame wreath.
General Questions
List your pertinent alts, as well as their classes and levels:
Thingdetain: 70 human warlock ~1000 +shadow damage, my first toon. Oldcastro: 70 NE feral druid. ~16k HP, 30K armor, 40% dodge
Is this app for your main alone, or would you like to bring alts over as well?:
I'd like to bring some alts over too
Why should we recruit you?:
I take directions well, I'm willing to work on my own to make myself better so that groups aren't just dragging me through, I'm flexible, and helpful. I'm always looking for something to do.
Why have you chosen to apply to Downfall?:
A lot of the people I went to my first raids with are in Downfall, and I miss raiding with them. I'm also interesting in seeing some fresh content.
What do you expect to get out of Downfall membership?:
Hopefully I'll get to see some content I haven't seen before, hang out with old friends and make new ones. I'm also looking forward to the new expansion, and
How do you feel you will contribute to the downfall community?:
Apart from in-game/raiding contributions, I can be fun to hang out with on vent. I think I'm hilarious*. I work as a service tech, so I know quite a bit about technical issues (need someone to help you design a website, install a new power supply, or fix your robots? I'm your man). In-game, I believe I will be a valuable asset in current raids and the upcoming expansion. I've leveled all of my professions to 375, and I'm always willing to craft/help farm mats for people. I enjoy this game most when doing something with others and working for a goal.
Do you have any references in Downfall?:
Sorreah, Dikymo, Pumas
How long do you intend to stay in Downfall?:
I don't really enjoy the whole LFG thing. If downfall is as active as I've heard it is, I'll be around for as long as I'm playing WoW.
What things might cause you to leave?:
Not being asked to participate in activities.
If you are applying to raid, which nights can you raid?:
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Are you going to burn out?:
Yes
Anything else you would like to add?:
I threw up in Dikymo's bushes.
What timezone are you in?:
Eastern Standard Time
How often do you think you would have to miss raid?:
Weekday raids are tough for me to make because of my job and the timezone difference between me and the server. However, I keep my schedule open on the weekends, since that's my time to relax and play some WoW. I won't sign up for anything if I can't make it, and if something should come up that would keep me from attending a raid I'm usually in, I will give advance notice.
What might the typical reasons for missing raid be?:
There are no typical reasons. Occasionally I'll get girlfriend aggro on the weekend, but very infrequently.
Read everything here: http://www.downfallguild.org/loot Does that seem fair?:
Yes.
If Shihli tells a joke (good or bad), will you laugh?:
No
Your ass, or a hole in the ground?:
My ass
UI
How do you feel about mods, particularly in a raid setting?:
Need them.
Are you willing to change mods that don't interface well with ours in raid?:
Yes
Personal
How long have you been playing WoW?:
Since just before TBC came out.
How old are you?:
27
Tell us about yourself.:
I'm a service engineer for a robotics company. I have my BS in EET. In my free time I play WoW, and I enjoy learning new things. I taught myself HTML, CSS, XML/XSL, and photoshop. I live with my girlfriend and my dog. I got my start in online gaming with Return to Castle Wolfenstein, a game which I played for several years with a clan called ALN/t4p (we changed out name towards the end). Our team competed in CAL and TWL, and we even won a season of CAL. I also did level design for RTCW and its bastard offspring RTCW:ET, and released a map that was based off of the temple from Goldeneye (the N64 game). I also did a lot of brushwork (difficult to explain) on a joint project with Ifurita and Mean Mr. Mustard for a map called Dubrovnik. For the couple of years before I started playing WoW, I just sort of wandered around shooters looking for another game that seemed as well put together as RTCW and ET. I played FEAR, CoD, CS:S, and a few others for various periods of time.
Are you in school or working?:
Working
What Country/State do you live in?:
Ohio, US

Mad love for Prime. He's

Torvo — Sun, 10/12/2008 - 11:53

Mad love for Prime. He's been a key player in !!1 raids over the last month. Not only showing up and bringing his experience/gear, but cheerfully offering flexibility to swap between his alts and bring whichever toon the raid needs most. Yesterday's under-4-hour-clear was a big success thanks in no small part to him... He'd wanted to bring his feral druid but when we already had 2 tanks sign up and couldn't find a Warlock he volunteered to switch toons. His lock put up high dps, plus he showed good competency with the "support" part of his game -- keeping up SS, offering a new HS after each boss, throwing up debuffs, etc. Lastly, and this one's near and dear to my heart, we spent some time chatting Resto Shammy in 3.0/Wrath and he's well versed in that world as well :)

At around 150 mp5 unbuffed

Desteran — Fri, 10/10/2008 - 12:29

At around 150 mp5 unbuffed (water shield is a buff :D) you can switch to using LHW primarily. However, if you ever have to tank heal HW and imp HW provides you with alot form flexability. Not to mention you could put a blindfold on and put all 60 pts in resto and get an effective healing build (not recommended). With the new talents coming out we are going to have to be a little more selective but none-the-less, speccing heavily in resto will be preferred.

There are a couple of spots in BT where I find myself using healing wave. Healing Fel-Rage on Bloodboil (This was honestly really hard at first but Lorb is amazing at healing Bloodboils and a great healer all around). Chain heal typically will only bounce to the melee who typically don't take damage. Secondly, healing flame tanks on Illidan it is a must. Melee is all over the place on this phase so chains can be thrown in here and there but HW is going to be your most effective heal here. I couldn't imagine using LHW to heal flame tanks as I strugle with mana on this phase using HW/Chain Potting/Refreshing water shield/Mana Tide/Manastream. It is intense.

With the raiding I have done on my shaman the most important lesson I have learned is to do your fucking job. Whether it is your usual job or plays to your characters strongest healing suit or weakest. If you fail to do this and try to pull out some other role, people die, raids wipe and people get pissed. How many other classes have that much control over the sucess of a raid. Muhahahaha.

The reason I do not like the pts in elemental is that you have to take 5 usesless talents when to get 3 usefull talents when youre taking frost, fire or nature dmg.

Imp Ghostwolf while only useful on a couple of fights in BT/Hyjal (a couple more in SW) is so damn useful on those fights that is it worth taking. I can't count how many times I would have crattered to a volcanoe on supremus w/o it. Yes I am a bad player.  And you get a little (very little) extra int (which translates into a little +heal with resto talents).

Rant Over.

That said. Primeight has done well in every fight he's done with us in BT.

Edit: In response to your earlier comment Prime...as far as single target heals are concerned LHW does provide more heals/sec but HW provides more heal/mana. I hang out around 160/mp5 unbuffed and if everthing goes well I am damn near close to oom at the end of healing intensive fights (if I miss a pot I may go oom). At this point, as a shaman, if you have lots of mana at the end of fights like Naj, BB, Counil, Illidan P2 you're not healing hard enough and need to be a little more intense about it.

Er, I edited my post if it

Prime8 — Wed, 10/08/2008 - 13:34

Er, I edited my post if it seems like there's a continuity problem between my posts and others.

I took a look at Zildo's spec, it looks like I could grab those talents pretty easily if I sacrifice the points in reduced totem cost and reduced silence time.

edit: respeced.

HW is always more

Shihli — Wed, 10/08/2008 - 13:00

HW is always more mana-efficient than LHW, which should only every be used ... well ... sparingly.

Personally, I don't spec into the imp. HW talents on my shaman out of personal preference.  I prefer a spec like 8/6/47 - gives me a smidge more survivability, mana, and mobility without giving up a whole lot of healing talents.

Might want to take a peek at Zildo, Atakheal, Jorence, or Coreankhed's specs though.

Wow weird, I've been

Prime8 — Wed, 10/08/2008 - 13:03

Wow weird, I've been checking this but I never saw "new" next to the app title, so I didn't notice these comments.

Garreth: Most of the time, probably not. My work schedule varies a bit depending on what customer I'm at, so there would frequently be times I wouldn't be able to raid during the week. I'm occasionally required to work early in the morning, this is compounded by the fact that I'm located in eastern standard time

That said, whenever my schedule allows, I'm around. Atar can probably tell you I've been around whenever he's needed me.

Atar: Seriously? The only thing I use Healing Wave for is my "Oh shit" macro for a fast big heal. I've always considered HW inferior to LHW in terms of mana efficiency and heals per second. Is it dependent on haste gear or something I'm not seeing? I'll armory Zildo or someone to see how they spec. Maybe I can get some advice for situational use as well.

Also, TY for the vote of confidence!

Prime did a solid job last

Atar — Thu, 10/02/2008 - 07:02

Prime did a solid job last night in BT for his first time ever seeing the place.  I'd invite him back again.

One thing I would like for you to look into is to get five points into Improved Healing Wave.  Next to chain heal that should your heal of choice.  Let's get those five points in there.

Can you handle raiding 4

garreth — Tue, 09/30/2008 - 16:03

Can you handle raiding 4 nights a week, 3 hours a night, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday when raiding starts up in Wrath?

Is this the kind of progression you are looking for?

Prime rocked the 20man

Atar — Mon, 09/29/2008 - 06:20

Prime rocked the 20man Gruuls with us Sunday.  Seems to be a nice guy and played his role really well.  I think he'd be a cool addition to DF.  You've got my check of approval!

Hey I didn't see a malt run

Prime8 — Sun, 09/28/2008 - 14:42

Hey I didn't see a malt run this Saturday on the calendar, if there was one sorry I missed it. I did do a kz with the Kara!1 group which went pretty well.

I picked up a couple new pieces of gear, the 75 badge resto shammy belt, and the Enamelled disk of Mojo from ZA. Prime's up to about 2.1k +healing now. :D

Prime8 — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 07:22

I did some grinding for mats, I picked up the healing enchants for my druid's weapon, pants, gloves, and bracers. I was able to get him up to about 1700 +healing, pre-respec to resto.

I prefer to tank with that toon, but I really prefer not to get left out of stuff because you're full on tanks and really could use an offheal or whatever. :P

Every week is

Aidin — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 08:16

Every week is different...some weeks i'm short on tanks, sometimes heals..sometimes DPS (wtf? who'd have thunk it) Luckily I have all 3!!! I also have a core grp that roll with me week in and week out who also have tank/heal/dps options and will bring what's needed.

Flexibility is key in these fun runs..and you've proven to be more then flexible!

Yep that was good stuff. I

Prime8 — Mon, 09/15/2008 - 13:18

Yep that was good stuff. I was getting worried when my power was flashing on and off as you were putting the group together. I know some people who were out for about a half hour from storms. We actually had a huge tree-limb in our backyard today.

I'm anxious to show off my healing abilities now that you've seen my offspec. I'll say Aiden, I was impressed with the way you guys interact on vent. Very easy going atmosphere, but still focused. Most of the experiences I've come across are either easy going, or focused, but rarely both.

I was a little confused with Mags, the only way I've ever seen it done is to have the tanks be the clickers (which I've done frequently on my druid), but I can see why you'd want to have guild apps take that on. It was a shame we weren't able to get him down, but with how easily we did Gruul I can tell you have it together.

I had fun, will definitely be signing up for some more runs with you guys this coming weekend as well. I don't know if DF brings guild apps into their tk/ssc raids, but I'm very interested in running those.

I probably should have mentioned before, I try to put offspec sets together for all my toons. So if you need say, a druid healer as opposed to a shammy, I can run with that too. I think my druid has around 1400 +healing just from gear, I'd guess around 1600 if I actually speced resto. I could probably bump that up to around 1800 with enchants/gems as well.

Aidin — Mon, 09/15/2008 - 13:26

Gotta love a healer that loves to heal! (my druid and my shammy will both be resto..lol)

And yes the SSC/TK runs absolutely have room for guild apps, so sign up, and sling some chain hax! ...i mean chain heals. ;)

Thank you for your

Aidin — Sun, 09/14/2008 - 06:52

Thank you for your application to Downfall. We are not currently recruiting for our 25 man MH/BT/SW raids. This does not mean that your application is or will be rejected. What it does mean, is that you will now be faced with a few tasks.

Downfall is a community first and foremost and a successful raiding guild second. First you need to ask yourself what it is you want from Downfall. If it's a spot in end game raid, and nothing more...then you may want to seek entry into another one of the many guilds on Gorgonnash.

If you desire a strong sense of community then get ready to work for it! When we talk about community, we aren't talking about the type of community that jumps when you say OMGRUNMYALTTHRUVC!!!! We're talking about a group for people who love this game we pour our lives into, people who will run things with you when they have time, people who may have their own special way of contributing to the community.

Now that you have applied (and if my wall of text didn't lose u 2 paragraphs ago), don't just sit there and hope someone will come hunt you down and say "HERE'S YOUR INVITE!!" because that simply will not happen. Those who gain entry into Downfall work for it. Members have waited upwards of 3 months or more to be part of our community. How do you ensure that you have every option to be the next addition?

Here's an idea:

  • Stay active on this thread, it's your application. You will receive feedback and recommendations. Don't take anything personal, if you can't take constructive criticism, you will never make it in guild chat. Applications are open to the entire community, not just officers, so if you were a douche to a member in the past, be ready for it to bite you in the ass.
  • If given goals to meet, make them.
  • Sign up for events you can make and which you are geared for. No need to sign up for MH/BT/SW, as those aren't testing grounds for new members. Focus on the Sunday Gruul/Mag run by yours truly or the Saturday SSC/TK run by Grasen.
  • If you sign up...show up. No one likes an app who signs up for all raids and never shows.
  • Download the raid pack. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT show up to a Gruul/Mag or SSC/TK without our required add ons. If you do not understand what you are looking at, then research it. If you still don't understand, post you're question and someone will help you. (If you think only bad players use mods, we can say our goodbyes right now)
  • Do everything you can to get your name out there, and show why you should be part of our community. Run 5 mans, Run 10 mans, participate in forum discussions.

If and when you are accepted into Downfall, you are strictly on a trial basis. If we invite you because you convinced us you were the worlds greatest healer/tank/random dps class, and you looooooooooove to run 5 mans...but you never run a thing, you never sign up for fun runs, and you burn out and don't sign on for 1+ months, don't be surprised if you find yourself guildless on log in one day.

It's very simple, don't say what we want to hear just to get in,
because it will haunt you in the end. Be honest, and we will be fair.

With that said....GOOD LUCK ON YOUR APPLICATION!

You truly put me to shame

Prime8 — Sun, 09/14/2008 - 00:36

You truly put me to shame Diky. I had another er, trainwreck night last night, and had to settle for my toilet this morning, as there were no large plants readily available. I made the cardinal mistake though, drinking on an empty stomach

Edit: Sorry Felsteel, I must have been posting at nearly the same time as you. Because of work, I can't reliably raid during the week. I'll certainly be down for something this coming Saturday though.

Sorreah — Sat, 09/13/2008 - 08:44

Prime is a good guy

he is really just looking for an active guild.

i have been talking with him and his current guild doesnt really suit him where as the larger number of active people in downfall looking to do things is much more his style

his current gear set makes him perfect for our malt and smash&grab progression which fits really well for his sched

i would expect to see him active in those as well as 10 man instances in the weeks to come.
