Crazy, I'd recommend that
garreth — Fri, 09/19/2008 - 10:20Crazy, I'd recommend that you take a good hard look at my signature (it will be below this text). It's written for people that don't know what an "analogy" is, but knee-jerk into the mistake of assuming an analogy "is" something, instead of "like" something. And if you don't think WoW is "like" a job in any semblance, I recommend you step up and try leading anything in this stupid game day in and day out.
That said, this whole thread is stupid. And I'm going to lock it because it's just drama bait and nothing but a public venue for taking pot shots at each other. Any decisions I make on Shaw will be done on vent and in game.
That said, Shaw, you're annoying. There, I said it. You're a big, dumb lovable stoner oaf with a big heart, but not much in-game brains. Notice I did NOT say I don't like you. But you annoy me and you annoy those of us that are trying to keep a very large community of strong personalities from killing each other.
Also, I don't like being a fall-back, for any reason. Yep, it's a game. Yep, you left for a friend's server. Yep, you had good reasons. But, now, here we are again, yet ANOTHER person in this stupid game who just assumes that Downfall is the team you can hop in and out of at will because we're so nice and lovable. I may not hate these people, but I lose respect for them.
OK, back to the subject at hand. Will I let you back in? I dunno. Shaw, YOU need to adjust and change a lot of what you do. Let's talk on vent. As it stands right now, I can't let you back. But let's talk about some adjustments we can make that might be mutually beneficial to you and the guild.

Well then, forgive me for
Shihli — Fri, 09/19/2008 - 09:52Well then, forgive me for having an opinion, I wasn't aware it was less valuable than yours or Kybosh's.
lo fugging l. Your opinion
Crazytexan — Fri, 09/19/2008 - 10:01lo fugging l. Your opinion prob weighs more and you know it. I'm just saying lighten the funk up sometimes and don't take everything so darn personal cause it wanst meant to be. I doubt people gquit just to say hmmmm I bet shi is gonna be pissed. Just saying man. ...just saying.
Take it for what it's worth
I'm sorry shi but you say
Crazytexan — Fri, 09/19/2008 - 09:28I'm sorry shi but you say this isn't a buisness in your last paragraph but EVERYTHING else you said contradicts that. I was not here when shaw left so I can't speak for that. What I can say is that I can see how a guild is "similar" to a buisness because of raid obligations etc, but I'm sorry the day I consider a game a job will be the day I quit wow. I know many may not agree with me but I know most of this guilds main raiders do it because they love it, not because it's a job.
I guess in the end some people forget that this is a GAME and you can have fun without busting everyone that walks through the doors preverbial balls.
It's a game that has to be taken seriously sometimes because I understand that it has to be done in order for a guild to function. But seriously people leave for various reasons and while a person may or not agree doesn't mean they should be castorated when they come back to he playground. If anything it's a complment not a "silver medal". DF is the shit and a great place to be I just think that in the end this is a game and most play because they enjoy it.
Just because stuff comes up IRL should blackball someone for good unless they burn bridges beforehand. That's a diff. story. Please don't take is personally but just lighten up a little shi and take it for what it is an awesome community, a great place to be, and the best playground on the block
As garreth said "they always come back". There's a reason for that.
I think certain people in
Kybosh — Fri, 09/19/2008 - 07:01I think certain people in the guild take people leaving WAY too personally.
Shaw had his reasons to go. As far as I'm concerned he didn't burn any bridges by leaving, thing's didn't work out, and he wants to come back because he has friends here. And I'd like to reiterate, HE STILL HAS FRIENDS HERE.
Some people need to get over their power issues and try being a decent person once in a while. Get over yourselves and let the dude back in.

I like Shaw. He's always
Atar — Fri, 09/19/2008 - 06:49I like Shaw. He's always been super nice to me and has always offered his help in any way he can. I think he's a funny guy, and YES HE TALKS TOO MUCH IN G CHAT, but I'm sure there are other get on our nerves too.
I like the way Jaibyrd put. The "Sandbox" story if you want to call it that.
If he was here and wasn't
jaibyrd — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 20:54If he was here and wasn't doing anything with anybody in guild anyway why is it a big issue that he went somewhere else and didn't do anything? Sounds to me like he basically stopped playing and now he's back and wants to play in the sand with the rest of the cool kids on the block. Now the question really should be is he the kind of person you all generally liked and is he someone who will do what he says/when he says. Taking a break from Wow to have a life ( or because life kicks us) should not be something that any of us are afraid to do. It sounds like he went and talked with a friend at another playground and now he's wandered back where he feels at home. So what's the big issue? Does Downfall really feel the need to beat up every kid who doesn't wanna play with us anymore? That seems sort of extreme. I would be interested in knowing whether he is a playground wanderer rather than if he just has gone to one other server before deciding if he can play in our playpark again. Then again...they are OUR marbles and if our team is full he may just have to sit out.
Yes, I like to heal. No, I've never been shadow.
Again, I see a difference
Shihli — Fri, 09/19/2008 - 07:39Again, I see a difference between "leaving WoW to have a life" (e.g. Vulk, Caliroll, Grovinski, Amenn, Primistic) and "server transferring to be with a different group of players, finding out that it wasn't as much fun, then coming back and expecting a place within the guild" (e.g. Dangly, Skyy, Tynkx).
In the past, we have left the doors of entry into Downfall fairly wide open. Hell, we still pretty much have zero requirements for guild entry so long as you're a friend or family member of a guild member. However, I (and other guild officers I'm sure) personally don't have time to deal with every single person that joins the guild, bails on us because "they want to be with friends", finds out that apparently things aren't as much fun with their "friends", then come back because they KNOW they'll be welcomed back.
In short, my stance is this:
Generally, if you want to be in guild, you stay in the guild. If you don't want to be in the guild, you leave the guild.
In a sense, it's like a job. If someone quit their job stating that they want to "join a friend's business", then came back a few weeks, maybe a month later and told their former boss that "things weren't as good at my friend's business, can I have my job again?" Their former boss would tell them, quite bluntly "No."
Why? Because they've already filled the position, and the person that left ... well ... *left*. They made their stand and now they have to be happy with the result.
And yes, I know we're not a business, we're a guild, a set of raids, and a group of friends all mixed up.
lol... ok so here is the 411
shawdogg — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 16:16lol... ok so here is the 411 for u guys...
ok so first i wanna state that, lol at the silver medal comment but thats not what i think you guys are, and if ur in this guild thinking that, i would think u are a silver medal then i dont know what to tell you about your own skills at playing a game that requires u to hit buttons but yah anyways...
sooo! yes it is true i was in downfall, yes i raided with almost everyone in lf1m and im sure there are people who like me and dislike me but thats lifeand im adult enough to deal with that.
so its was along while back that i was in downfall, wasnt raiding much because i have a job that the hours are kinda screwy, and since i own my own buisness and pretty much work for myself, its kinda hard to make a game a priority over something that is my livelyhood which im sure that most all of you can understand. so since i could not make raid times and was busy most of the time my play sched was off, and with summer coming and me getting more and more on my plate and not really doing anything in the guild except be there and pvp with a few friends when they had the time. so a RLF of mine was on the server with me he had some rlf that i knew that were moving to another server, so being that they were goin to move and i really was not doing anything with the guild and wanted to try out the whole pvp thing with them to see if i liked it, i lefted. Yes i know i should have told more people and the reaseons why, and thats my fault and i understand how that would gimp me ingetting back in with yall.but honestly i didnt think anyone would really mind that i left since i had been so apsent in raiding and just being on that much. but i guess i tought wrong.
SO, BECAUSE i could do pvp anytime "so i thought" and raids are on a sched if u know what i mean it made sense!!!!! soooo getting onto the new server my bud who is also named mike joined up with this raiding guild like the next day we were on the server, so i joined up with him being that i was unguilded and what not. weeks went by we did some pvp but work just came more and more into play and i was not able to pvp as much as i wanted to so being that i just became to busy to do anything i pretty much just stoped playing cause of the time. i would get on everyonce in awhile and run through org like i always do just to mess with the horde but other than that, thats it.
so then summer started coming to an end and buisness started to slow down a lil i had more time to do things on the computer and was spending a lil more time at my house. which also is something that was going on cause i had to move to a new house of my own and get that all set up which took awhile&some change. so now that im here on gorg im here, and dont plan on going anywhere unless i quit the game which is not going to happen.
so i dont know if i explained everything i needed to but if there is more you want to hear then by all means ask.
thanks! - MIke AKA shawdog
So cutting to the chase ...
Shihli — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 16:30So cutting to the chase ... you left <Downfall> and the server to be with a friend - that is to say, to join a friend's guild. You felt you couldn't stick around because you weren't online very often.
Things didn't turn out like you wanted. So you came back, now that you have more time for things.
While I get that you left to be with friends, I also see the umpteenth person "leaving to be in a friend's guild".
I'm not sold, sorry.
And yes, you're free to think I'm a jackass, join the club.
I wouldn't say its 30 people
Derchlon — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 15:23I wouldn't say its 30 people not doing something, but more accurately, not doing something WITH EACHOTHER. A lot of the time people get online to do their own thing, level an alt, dailies, etc, and aren't interested in doing group activities. I don't think those people should be described as not doing anything as that wouldn't be fair to them. Those people don't have a lack of activities.
To echo Dufe and Garreth's
Shihli — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 15:22To echo Dufe and Garreth's sentiments -
If you think that there's "nothing for the casuals", then stop complaining and start organizing (e.g. Fjork, Finndo, Popplegem, *any* of the PvP'ers).
Not saying you're complaining, but to say "no one's around" and "there's nothing for casuals" are both just completely false.
my meaningless vote is yes,
Mixolydian — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 12:56my meaningless vote is yes, i liked shaw. little chatty in green but so the fuck what. hammies and lf1m got their own things goin so why not let him in, maybe with some more ppl not in established raids there will be more activites for the non hardcores. just my 3 cents
30 people online but not
garreth — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 15:0430 people online but not raiding does not equate to "lack of activities".
"Lack of activities" is caused by those 30 not getting off their butts and actually doing SOMETHING.

garreth — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 10:38I got rid of the spelling question, though the vast majority of our apps put about as much effort into their app as wiping their ass.
Seriously, do you guys write like this at school and at your jobs?
Gah.

Ardea — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 09:12"I don't appreciate being lied to." It really sounds like you are taking this a little too personal...
I am guessing mistakes are done because they were missed while proof reading or proff reading never occured.
Assuming you are being "lied to" is a bit extreme.

Torvo — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 08:21Please don't lie in your guild application. I don't appreciate being lied to.
How many spelling mistakes are in your app? 0
By my count, there are 19. Bad grammar and lack of capitalization notwithstanding.
I am not sure they are
Ardea — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 07:37I am not sure they are trying to "piss on him" just curious why he left > disappeared > and now wants to come back.
Was he just off to find greener pastures and realized that there are none?
He has been here and seen these questions.
Shawdogg, tell what you have been up to while you were MIA. Put more effort in... If I remember correct you were liked by a lot of members right from the start.
Wow...he made a mistake..he
Aidin — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 07:17Wow...he made a mistake..he left...and I'm sure he'll explain it.
He wants to come back to a grp of ppl who have a sense of community and a strong bond...and he get's pissed and shit on. Nice.
So what did he do to piss you off so bad????
If he left because someone
Shihli — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 08:23If he left because someone screwed with his account, that's one thing.
If he left because he wanted to find another raid, or "be with friends", or anything else ... then found it didn't work out and wants to come back ... well, like I said, we aren't a "silver medal".
We aren't a charity,
Shihli — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 06:51We aren't a charity, Shawdog. We aren't your silver medal.
Shaw, if you really want to
Atar — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 06:05Shaw, if you really want to get back into DF you need to put some more time in your application and take it more serious. Explain why you left and why you're trying to come back.

Pedran — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 06:00I wasn't in teh guild when you server-transferred, but this answer:
How do you feel you will contribute to the downfall community?:
as a whole good, but......................nvm
Makes me very hesitant to say "forgive and forget", because I'm not sure you have.
Don't mind me specifically though. I have very little do with yes/no on guild apps.
