So, on the side I've been scraping various tanking pieces for the hell of it. Hey, it's plate, not a lot of competition usually so default default default! So I thought I might try to use it one of these days.
Anyways, like the nerd in me twice before, I gotta make a list. It'll help me figure out what I should gem, what I should enchant, etc, etc. But a bit harder to simply rank this gear. Have to figure out avoidance, stam, and threat. And can't really mix the stuff, so perhaps having 2-3 pieces around more tailored to one of the 3 would be more useful for the diff situations.
So, going by avoidance first, with special mention of threat and stam. First off the numbers!

I could probably just start dropping some defense too. Though not sure bout that since it drops other avoidance along with it.

saedo — Tue, 09/23/2008 - 08:56I have to probably use [Dark Blessing] as the weapon for now. Only "spell damage" I have and at 144, it's a bit above continuum blade and stuff. Otherwise for avoidance it was [The Sun Eater].
Shield I have [Aldori Legacy Defender]. Removed it from listings cause when I ranked by avoidance stats, it doesn't make sense. Blue shields beating Sunwell one and all. This thing I'd have to consider block and armor and stuff.

I've been (bored) tinkering away at some stat-comparisons for min/maxing, but I would need to know what sword/shield your using. Best I can tell, you'll have to lean a little heavier than you might want to on the Block Rating, but that's okay if your only going say through..... SSC/TK. (Minding that is without any enchantments at all). But that depends on what weapon/shield your using. I'm going to assume your exalted with Sha'tar, Violet, etc.
Using the [Sunward Crest] as a shield, and picking up the [Libram of Repentance] I figure you can be sitting pretty with a huge +spell sword such as mages/'locks would normally use since you'll be over 104% Avoidance(When Holy Shield Active) and 490 Def.
Here's what gear I would go with, all +sta gems:

With 12,959 armor, 195 +Spell, and 14,337 Health, you can pretty much pick and choose what +Spell weapon you want to use (aka [item]Vengeful Gladiator's Gavel[/item], [item]Seeker's Gavel[/item], [Continuum Blade]. That will let you comfortably tank KZ/Heroics without even the normal enchants/raid-buffs/consumables.
I could look into recommended 'chants and whatnot, but at that gear level Grov is definitely a better resource for what chants to get. If your concerned about threat at all, with the [Glyph of the Defender] and your Scryer/Aldor Shoulder Enchant, you can easily drop the [Libram of Repentance] and pickup the [Libram of Divine Purpose] instead.

Grovinski — Sun, 09/21/2008 - 19:41At a point block becomes a negative because you want to avoid a lot of damage rather then block 3-400 of it. The threat of holy shield doesn't scale very well, judging Righteousness. consecration and exorcism are where the bulk of your threat will come from.

saedo — Sun, 09/21/2008 - 10:05This is more of a let's rank stuff by some arbitrary value say Avoidance, then see how the stuff I got ranks on it, and see which items might be worth putting 15 stam gems in vs the 12 stam gems in.
Would have to pay special attention to things like stam and threat stats since I can't just cram them all into some arbitrary scale.
So based on that, I think the following probably deserves 15 stam gems.
[Battleworn Tuskguard] - Will probably give the most stam based on what I have access to, plus has block
[Pauldrons of Stone Resolve] - High avoidance and is a good piece with stam and block.
[Jungle Stompers] - Again high avoidance with stam and block
[Crimson Girdle of the Indomitable] - Seems to have good avoidance with block and all and with 2 gems slots can make it fairly high in stam.
I definitely need a spell damage weapon. Closest thing is my healing one. lol
So after I get all the stuff gemmed and enchanted (prob take a while), I'll have to see where I'm at with stats. Then prob re-adjust to more wishlist-esque.

so is this just the "must reach uncrushable" list ?
or is it the "lets make a good tanking set" list ?
right now it seems all fonused on avoidance and reaching uncrushable which is great but almost becomes wasted effort in the end when you could have just as easily planned an all around set especially with the access to gear you have
