Jeremyj - kiting, sheeping, fun loving mage

jeremyj's picture

jeremyj — Tue, 09/23/2008 - 19:58

Character Info
Information about the character.
Character Name:
Jeremyj
Race:
Human
Character Class:
Mage
Character Level:
lvl 70
Total play time at level 80:
18 days
Total play time:
52 days
Average play time per week:
Main days are Tuesday, Wednesday, (sometimes Thursday and Saturday), and any other days I have free
Good computer/internet connection?:
Yes
What is your average latency?:
111
Server you are currently on:
Gorgonnash
How long have you been on the above server?:
Just a couple days - just transfered
Raiding
What talent build do you use to raid?:
Right now 40 arcane / 21 frost. It provides high damage and good mana efficiency. Wowhead talent build: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0E00fzxIziZZVq0cof0o
Tell us a little about how your class contributes to a raid.:
Keeping high threat targets sheeped while staying alive - spamming sheep over and over if necessary. Kiting/slowing where necessary. Timely frost novas to keep mobs near tanks. Keeping fire ward up with mana shield. Dpsing like crazy with frost bolts, AoEing where there are clumps of mobs needing to be killed.
What role are you most comfortable/geared playing?:
DPS
Would it be a problem if you had to wait 3 weeks or 3 months to get into raid?:
It would not be a problem if I had to wait a year or more :)
List the instances you have experience in, and the farthest you have been in that instance.:
All instances up to Black Temple Teron Gorefiend. Never done Lady Vashj or Kael'Thas Sunstrider however. In classic WoW, I raided all of Molten Core with this mage and that was a fun experience. My role was to sheep, dps, frost nova, and stay alive.
What is your favorite 25-man BC Boss encounter, and why?:
I'd have to say Supremus in Black Temple. The reason is this is a chance to shine for staying alive while still being able to fulfill your class role. You really see who is aware and knows how to stay alive. A tiny bit of luck is involved with volcanoes, but ultimately, it's a Karazan Big Bad Wolf on steroids fight, and I enjoy the challenge of staying alive in this fight.
What is your least favorite 25-man BC Boss encounter, and why?:
I don't like Gruul. The shatters provide too much of a random element. That being said, it's not that bad, but the shatters are annoying - my ice block doesn't prevent their damage. I don't like Warsong Gulch battleground. People can just squat with the flags and it takes forever to finish. Very slow honor gains.
General Questions
List your pertinent alts, as well as their classes and levels:
Jermsbegone, level 14 priest
Is this app for your main alone, or would you like to bring alts over as well?:
Main only
Why should we recruit you?:
My mage has not raided too many BC 25 instances, so his gear needs a little work. That being said, I'm a smart player who enjoys challenges. I also enjoy other players who excel. My good friend Eric (Lepp and Ardea) and his wife (Spek) are in the guild and it would be fun to spend time with them there as well. If you are looking for a player who is confident, smart, contributes in a variety of ways, and willing to admit when he makes mistakes, look no further than me :)
Why have you chosen to apply to Downfall?:
Main reason is my good friend Eric (Lepp and Ardea) is in the guild.
What do you expect to get out of Downfall membership?:
I don't expect anything actually. I would love to meet all of you and spend some time gaming with you. Your guild seems to be skilled and I enjoy skilled players who like to have fun.
How do you feel you will contribute to the downfall community?:
There's probably not much I can offer in the ways of talent builds or strategies, that being said, I will chime in where I see a hole in a strategy or subject, either in guild chat or on the forums.
Do you have any references in Downfall?:
Lepp, Ardea, and Spek
How long do you intend to stay in Downfall?:
As long as Lepp, Ardea, and Spek are in, you can expect me to be in
What things might cause you to leave?:
Lepp, Ardea, and Spek leaving
If you are applying to raid, which nights can you raid?:
Wednesday
Thursday
Are you going to burn out?:
No
Anything else you would like to add?:
Nothing else to add :)
What timezone are you in?:
MST (Utah)
How often do you think you would have to miss raid?:
Couple times a month
What might the typical reasons for missing raid be?:
Work keeping me late or my wife wanting to spend time together that day.
Read everything here: http://www.downfallguild.org/loot Does that seem fair?:
Yes - I don't care much about loot - I will only go after loot once everyone has not expressed interest in the item.
If Shihli tells a joke (good or bad), will you laugh?:
No
Your ass, or a hole in the ground?:
A hole in the ground
UI
How do you feel about mods, particularly in a raid setting?:
Very necessary, they help provide extra tools to do the job
Are you willing to change mods that don't interface well with ours in raid?:
Yes
Personal
How long have you been playing WoW?:
Since it began, in 2004
How old are you?:
30 - almost 31
Tell us about yourself.:
I am a husband and father of a 16 month old baby girl Ellie who is adorable. I love to play basketball. I am writing a book. I love to take on challenges. I am a web developer for Ancestry.com using c#, asp.net, and javascript.

I'm Alive

jeremyj — Mon, 12/15/2008 - 09:12
I am alive, I promise. Just haven't had a lot of time to hop on my mage and play lately. Congrats on all the content you've cleared so far! How do you guys compare the 10/25 mans from WoTLK with Burning Crusade? Do you like them better?

Jerm! Next time you are on

Ardea — Mon, 12/15/2008 - 10:51

Jerm!

Next time you are on /join DFRecruit It's our own little LFG channel. Over all I am a lot more impressed with WotLK than I was with BC. BC there was very little continuty and storyline. "Hey, level to 70" "Here are some instances so you have something to do..." "Because you want more loot here are some raids..." "Illidan who?"

Within the first 15 minutes of getting to Northrend I was killed by the Lich King.

I definitely like the story

jeremyj — Tue, 12/16/2008 - 18:54
I definitely like the story line in WOTLK better, it feels more involved. And professions are more polished with better purpose. I will hop on again tonight to the dfrecruit channel :) Jerm

Heavy Frost DPS

jeremyj — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 19:00

On a side note, any other mages out there see the great damage deep frost can do? Between icy veins, icy fingers, brain freeze (instant, free fireball), and hard hitting frost bolts, along with the one minute long lasting water elemental hitting for over 1k a bolt, deep frost is serving me quite well.

Not only that, blizzard can crit now, and slows things to a crawl, 85% reduced movement speed, while applying 5 layers of winters chill (which providers + 10% crit on the enemies) after one cast. Casting this on a clump of horde is too much fun. It also makes ranged dps pulling aggro on meele trash irrelevant as they move just too slow to get to them (when they can be chilled of course).

It's been very competitive on damage meters for me, even with my sub par gear (which isn't as sub par now thanks to some lucky rolls in pugs).

Frost is doing better dps

Dufe — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 21:14

Frost is doing better dps that it previously did, in fact for 2 to maybe 2.5 minute fights, it should be top dps. Once you get past that though, it loses out to Fire. Arcane pulls ahead of it in another 30 sec or so. Having tried all three specs leveling during Beta, I'd have to say I'll probably level as Arcane when I'm mostly soloing and as Fire when I'm expecting to be in groups. I was a huge fan of Frost from 1-70, but I think for me and my personal play-styles, the others will fit me better for 70-80.

Reasons I liked soloing as Arcane:

  • I used Mage Armor with it's bonus glyph plus Arcane Meditation. It's so much regen that I only to stop to drink when I was doing alot of multi-mob pulls.
  • Slow + Arcane Barrage gets you out of a lot of tight spots.
  • 3/3 or even 2/3 Prismatic Cloak gets you out of even more tight spots. (This was the cause of numerous horde deaths in Beta)
  • Arcane Flows means you can get out of those tight spots more often.

That makes sense. I do like

jeremyj — Wed, 11/19/2008 - 10:59

That makes sense. I do like the idea of deep arcane and it's damage and escape mechanics.

The thing I like about frost the most is probably my blizzard spell and chain pulling multiple mobs and blizzarding them down. My record is 27 ethereals, south of Netherstorm, at once, though I got a bit lucky with none of them evade bugging.

For 10 man + raiding, and especially if they allow dual specs, I think arcane/fire sounds very appealing and will have to give that a go. Thanks for your input Dufe!

I am level 71, only 9 more to go... Jeremyj

Plans For Wrath of the Lich King Expansion

jeremyj — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 18:50

Besides blasting things away with my ultra charged frost bolts, I plan on leveling my mage to 80, but heavy raiding will still be out for me. I am interested in doing the ten man raids however, as those will likely fit my schedule better.

What plans does downfall have for ten man raiding (I'm sure this has been discussed on the site somewhere, perhaps I should just search for it ;))? I am torn because I can sense the great comradery in your guild, especially your 25 man teams. It's kind of a catch 22 for me because I just don't have the time for heavy raiding, but know I would enjoy it if I did. I watched your Kil'Jaeden kill video. You guys are a great team, you play well, and are laid back. Garreth typing asd;flkjasdf;lkj as his response to the kill was quite amusing.

I also plan on creating a Death Knight and leveling him to 80. He will be most likely a tanking death knight, heavy frost. Anyhow, thanks for listening :)

Thanks to everyone for the fun last night in AQ 40, BWL, and MC. Brought back some very old memories of raiding. Thanks to Vulk for the invite. It was great running with you guys, and I enjoyed playing and listening to all of your banter :)

Thanks

jeremyj — Sat, 11/01/2008 - 13:28

Thanks!  A little (to especially a lot of) literacy goes a long way, both in determining someone's intelligence, as well as their ability to communicate and follow instructions.  Oh, and congratulations on killing Kil'Jaeden.  That's a fun fight.  Watched SK Gaming's video of it more times than I can count now ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3LC1rCp9hE ).

Ardea — Tue, 10/21/2008 - 13:07

LOL

I am not a big fan of Ret now... pre-3.0 they had a burst that I was able to recover from and then slowly bleed them dry with my Insect Swarm... now they are just really annoying.

Let's see, here's a fun story

jeremyj — Mon, 10/20/2008 - 21:32

Let's see, here's a fun story for those of you at work looking for a diversion.

Jeremyj, the frost mage is looking to get a horde kill in Area 52. He realizes the guards are watching him, their rocket launchers at the ready. Yet he does not care. The 68 paladin is just too enticing of a target. He's certain the pally is ret. He's certain the pally will hammer of justice him right away and then repentence him. But he doesn't care, he wants to kill him.

Flying to the top of BOOM tower, the pally is just in range. Water elemental summoned, cooldowns popped, spells are flying. They find their mark. One crits. 20% health and here comes the pally bubble. Suddenly I am pelted by objects and rocket launcher fire. I am knocked around and off BOOM tower. Somehow I manage to get out and turn invisible, barely escaping a mauling by the guards.

I sneak back in, drink up and at full health see the same pally. He's positioned just right so that I can stand on the edge of Area 52 and unload on him again. I stand on the wall, catch my balance, and unleash frozen death on the paladin. His bubble cooldown is not up. He panicks! He runs one way and then the other, he's not sure what to do. As the last frost bolt connects, sending him to an icy grave, I am pummeled by the guards over the wall and out of town, making my escape easy.

The paladin brings a friend and stuns me outside of town, both using their divine storm simultaneously and honorable killing me. So all is fair in war I guess :)

Jerm

Thought I would chime in. I

jeremyj — Mon, 10/20/2008 - 18:55

Thought I would chime in. I have not been on that much, but just wanted to tell everyone that I am alive. I am enjoying a new deep frost build, with my mage - Jeremyj, that is making farming a sinch. Let's see, here's some interesting thoughts I have that will hopefully entertain all of you:

* Why is there everyday advertisements for new guilds that say they have a tabard and 2 bank tabs? "Insert new guild name here" is now recruiting. We are looking for level 30 + characters, are a friendly guild that helps each other with a tabard and 2 bank tabs, pst for more. --> My guess it that there are lots of 'guild hoppers' out there. People who get dis-satisfied easily with guilds and try and start their own. That and people who hate their guild, left, but did nothing while hating their guild to make it better.

* People complaining that alliance never wins battlegrounds. --> I think that a good leader can organize the troops to win battlegrounds. There are generally efficient strategies to each that when applied significantly increase the chance of winning. Simple organization. It's just that not many people can or want to take the initiative for it and complaining is easier.

* Socketing choice speaks volumes --> You can understand a lot about a player by their socketing. Are there cheap, non-crafted, and irrelevant gems socketed? Is there no meta gem socketed because they say they don't know where to get one? I say hmm, this person is in need of some serious guidance, or is just lazy.

* Attention wanters --> These are the people who can't stop talking in vent. Please, do our ears a favor and shhhhhhhhhhh. Yes, it's okay to talk about something interesting and chit chat here and there, but don't go on and on about dude this and dude that. Makes people over 30 nauseous.

* Warriors can't AoE tank (Pre Patch 3.0.2) --> Warriors may not have it as easy as Paladins pre 3.0.2. But I grouped with a warrior pre 3.0.2. He AoE tanked all of heroic shattered halls. On the last boss, He tanked all the adds and the boss while we killed him. His skilled use of thunderclap, devastate, cleave, and multi targeting was awesome to watch. He had about 13 adds on him during the final boss and my healing from my shaman only pulled off once to which he immediately intervened and dragged back. Why don't warriors use intervene more?

Let's see, that's all, I hope I was entertaining or at least helped pass a few minutes of your time :)

jeremyj — Thu, 09/25/2008 - 09:17

Noooo, my 50 dkp gone, and because of a gnome no less.  Spek makes me be nice - no she forces me to be nice and if I'm not, she doesn't stop spamming her water shield until I am.  It's ugly I tell ya.

Now for getting a hunter mind controlled, I'm all over that.  How about some Heroic Blood Furnace and Mechanar runs until it happens?  The Maker and Pathelon the Calculator are all of a sudden my best friends :)

I'd say Heroic Arcatraz too, Harbinger Skyriss is always a hoot!  Or making a deal with the devil (a horde priest) might work...

It is a guild entry

Dragonspear — Thu, 09/25/2008 - 06:22

It is a guild entry requirement that in order to get in you MUST get the guild Hunter Grasen mind controlled and then kill him. This awards you +100 DKP, raises your guild rep to friendly, and lowers your grasen rep to Unhappy.

Probably some more

jeremyj — Wed, 09/24/2008 - 13:06

Probably some more information about me would be good that wasn't explained well enough on the app.  Jeremyj, my mage, is an alt of mine I transfered from the Lightbringer server.  I have other characters there (Superjerm a resto shammy - this is my main character, theJerm, a demonology warlock, and a variety of other red headed step children that I like to neglect).

I've talked with Ardea/Lepp about your guild and you seem to be an intriguing bunch.  I look forward to meeting all of you.  That being said, I don't think my main contribution to your guild will be hardcore 25 man raids.  I am a husband and father first and that coupled with my work means heavy raiding is out of the question for me.

I however very much enjoy getting into any instances/raids I can where time permits and will be watching for your raid leaders open groups when they are on.  5 man heroics are also very enjoyable for me.  Perhaps in the future heavy raiding will be a possibility, but not anytime soon.  Just wanted to make sure this was clear and out in the open.  Oh, and Lepp/Ardea likes gnomes :)

Keep up on this app, reply and GET INVOLVED on our site and in our runs (10 mans and 5 mans and weekend 25 fun run).

I will also follow the

jeremyj — Tue, 09/23/2008 - 20:11

I will also follow the advice of the below information in my application to the Downfall guild journey :)

Thank you for your application to Downfall. We are not currently recruiting for our 25 man MH/BT/SW raids. This does not mean that your application is or will be rejected. What it does mean, is that you will now be faced with a few tasks.

Downfall is a community first and foremost and a successful raiding guild second. First you need to ask yourself what it is you want from Downfall. If it's a spot in end game raid, and nothing more...then you may want to seek entry into another one of the many guilds on Gorgonnash.

If you desire a strong sense of community then get ready to work for it! When we talk about community, we aren't talking about the type of community that jumps when you say OMGRUNMYALTTHRUVC!!!! We're talking about a group for people who love this game we pour our lives into, people who will run things with you when they have time, people who may have their own special way of contributing to the community.

Now that you have applied (and if my wall of text didn't lose u 2 paragraphs ago), don't just sit there and hope someone will come hunt you down and say "HERE'S YOUR INVITE!!" because that simply will not happen. Those who gain entry into Downfall work for it. Members have waited upwards of 3 months or more to be part of our community. How do you ensure that you have every option to be the next addition?

Here's an idea:

  • Stay active on this thread, it's your application. You will receive feedback and recommendations. Don't take anything personal, if you can't take constructive criticism, you will never make it in guild chat. Applications are open to the entire community, not just officers, so if you were a douche to a member in the past, be ready for it to bite you in the ass.
  • If given goals to meet, make them.
  • Sign up for events you can make and which you are geared for. No need to sign up for MH/BT/SW, as those aren't testing grounds for new members. Focus on the Sunday Gruul/Mag run by yours truly or the Saturday SSC/TK run by Grasen.
  • If you sign up...show up. No one likes an app who signs up for all raids and never shows.
  • Download the raid pack. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT show up to a Gruul/Mag or SSC/TK without our required add ons. If you do not understand what you are looking at, then research it. If you still don't understand, post you're question and someone will help you. (If you think only bad players use mods, we can say our goodbyes right now)
  • Do everything you can to get your name out there, and show why you should be part of our community. Run 5 mans, Run 10 mans, participate in forum discussions.

If and when you are accepted into Downfall, you are strictly on a trial basis. If we invite you because you convinced us you were the worlds greatest healer/tank/random dps class, and you looooooooooove to run 5 mans...but you never run a thing, you never sign up for fun runs, and you burn out and don't sign on for 1+ months, don't be surprised if you find yourself guildless on log in one day.

It's very simple, don't say what we want to hear just to get in,
because it will haunt you in the end. Be honest, and we will be fair.

With that said....GOOD LUCK ON YOUR APPLICATION!

Wow, ok my text is really small for my UI.  Omen would be on the left there.  Damage meters in the lower right.  Quest helper is at the bottom.  Heal bot is towards the top right.  Deadly Boss Mods are installed.
