The race to 1800 next season
Sardonyx — Thu, 09/25/2008 - 15:06
How does everyone feel about the deadly gear (including trinkets and nonset items) all having rating requirements. The spell power, attack power, and critical strike rating are all considerably higher than the hateful stats. I think this will finally be the season that cuts the average player off from the competetive levels of the arena. Thoughts?

it seems like the way they
Sardonyx — Tue, 09/30/2008 - 17:16it seems like the way they decided to fix pvp is to just make every class super-powered. pvp on the ptr is like unreal tournament 2004 on instagib mode. whoever gets the first shot off is probably going to win.
Its fine, i get laughed at
Dragonspear — Tue, 09/30/2008 - 09:48Its fine, i get laughed at often because I am pvp surv and I have been playing surv on my hunter since erm. lvl 46 or so back pre bc. nice thing about hunters is that you can spec em how you wanna play them and how you have fun playing them.

Dragonspear — Tue, 09/30/2008 - 09:27Instead your play with a crutch effectively known as your pet. Then again, I pvp as surv, dont mind marks and HATE BM. so I am just a little bias :D
And I always find kiting fun :D

Ah, see, as any founding
Wolfie — Tue, 09/30/2008 - 09:43Ah, see, as any founding member of downfall can tell you I AM the original BM hunter. While I can effectively play any tree of hunter, the game loses much of it's luster when I play other specs. I have been BM since release; since it was a shit spec (and I'm talking a special kind of shit [like "The Fast and the Furious" trilogy bad]). I was BM when the bottom talent was spirit bond! And get this, it wasn't passive. Oh no, it had a 30s CD. While I do agree, BM is not a very effective spec for arena... It's the spec that I fell in love with 4 years ago.

Wolfie — Tue, 09/30/2008 - 09:20I definitely tried the MM/surv trap spec. And while it was effectiveish, I can't help feeling like a little bitch playing ring around the god-damned-rosey for 12 minutes per fight. I'll take my dignity over a high rating any day haha.

Only problem I have with the
Wolfie — Tue, 09/30/2008 - 08:49Only problem I have with the rating system is that arena is no different from any other aspect of WoW. Gear/raiding does not necessarily = skill. Just like raiding, class balance and gear are as much a factor as skill in arena. Just because someone is not on a high rated team, does not necessarily mean they are not very good at PvP.
In addition to that, certain classes (especially paladins and hunters) are just not built for arena. I can juggle 2-3 people at once in a battleground all day long, but in arena all my target has to do is ride a pole like a stripper trying to pay rent to completely fuck up my chi.
I'm all for it as well.
jaibyrd — Mon, 09/29/2008 - 14:56I'm all for it as well. The only thing I have a hard time with is this: I'm a casual pvper so I go and have a great time doing arenas occasionally with pals, but what is happening since the requirements is that I'm finding alot of players in s4 gear in a low rated team that beats the pants off me and my friends, thus the player with the s4 gear is not there to challenge s4 geared ppl but to bully the casual player and or farm gold for rating points. I do not like to see that, not only cause it sucks for the casual player but why bother to get all that gear and go around poking babies?
es, I like to heal. No, I've never been shadow.
I heard they're fixing that
Adwarflol — Tue, 09/30/2008 - 05:37I heard they're fixing that by adding internal rating, I always have that problem aswell <__<

You're welcome.
Right now, season 4
Threerick — Mon, 09/29/2008 - 14:29Right now, season 4 pretty much cuts out the shit players from the pvp god players. There are still certain flaws in the system where ppl can still carry other players, but with the increase rating from s3-s4, you won't see every damn player with s4 swords. Only people that deserve and actually are good enough to get it can get it now. S3, people were being carried left and right, 1 player after another comes out with shoulders who don't deserve them. I hope the same system that blocks out less skilled pvp players from getting their weapons/shoulders. Ilike to be unique to have my weapons and knowing that I actually played and earn them for myself.

I'm all for the ratings.
Agoney — Mon, 09/29/2008 - 14:08I'm all for the ratings. Make them even higher, imo. WoW has become way to vanilla, imo. Before, epics were something..epic. Now you can become decked out in full epics within a week if you tried.
For PvE, I'd go back to how Naxx was. Before you can even recieve a piece of tiered loot, you'd have to complete another quest in addition to your attunement. For AQ, you had to be certain rep levels. Thats what one thing that distinquished PvE people from each other. You couldn't bring some scrub in for a night and deck them out. Yeah, its nice if your in a bind, but it ruins the game, and game balance.
I have mixed feelings about
Wolfie — Mon, 09/29/2008 - 12:45I have mixed feelings about the rating requirements. On one hand I dislike them because I would rather arena with people I like and get lowish ratings than try to find people I don't even know for class balance and such for higher ratings. (besides I'm a hunter, which in and of itself gives me the chances of Jesse Jackson at a KKK meeting.) On the other hand I strongly agree with the ratings. I'm tired of seeing scrub ass PvPers walk around in full S2 or most of S3. (IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE GOOD! IT JUST MAKES YOU HARDER TO KILL!) I remember a day when you could be proud to walk around in full epics... now I just feel dirty because I'm PvP oriented and thus am fully PvP geared.

Deadly and Hateful I believe
Dragonspear — Fri, 09/26/2008 - 04:17Deadly and Hateful I believe are teh first Wrath seasons worth of gear. That being said I think they might do something like they did in TBC and wait to start arenas for a month to a month and a half so that everyone can start on "equal" footing. Honestly I like the rating requirements on gear.
Buuuuuuuuuut im a pvper who just used to get frustrated watching people afk their way to arena sets.

Sardonyx — Thu, 09/25/2008 - 16:03nah. it all has lvl 80 tags. i dont know if it is there in error or not, but imo the only stuff that should be on the ptr is the stuff that will be in the next patch.
can anyone in the beta confirm the 1800 trinkets existence at this time?
