Profession Bonuses in Wrath
saedo — Wed, 10/08/2008 - 10:54
I found a nice summary on EJ written by Snowcrasher there: http://elitistjerks.com/f15/t29288-wotlk_profession_thread/p35/#post904932
Been thinking I that I'd keep Leatherworking in Wrath, but might drop Skinning. Though probably only after I level my LW. Looking at this list, maybe Alchemy for better and longer flasks. Or Blacksmiths for 2 extra sockets. Might have to see what BoP stuff is available then, but will be thinking about it in the meantime.

Notes & Comments:
- Blacksmithing, Tailoring & Leatherworking all have advantages from the BOP armor/weapons they can make that are NOT summarized here as the infomation available is far from complete
- Blacksmithing's extra sockets are considered with Epic gems for comparison purposes.
- Blacksmithing & Jewelcrafting both allow for much easier socket bonuses
--- Blacksmithing allows gem color freedom on gloves & bracers
--- Jewelcrafting allows gem color freedom in up to 3 sockets
- Jewelcrafting allows you to gain stats that the other professions don't give at all (ArPen, +hit, expertise, +def etc.)
- Jewelcrafting only gems will be way easier to obtain than the epic gems they are compared to since they are crafted from blues (depending on recipe source)
- Jewelcrafting makes meta gem requirements (especially 2 blues req.) much easier if not trivial and confers a bonus that way (avoiding having to use suboptimal gems etc.)
- Tailoring is now also a semi-gathering profession due to cloth gathering bonus<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message --> <!-- edit note -->

So I thought I'd might as
saedo — Mon, 11/03/2008 - 14:19So I thought I'd might as well share some of my inner turmoil on what professions to be in Wrath.
Herbalism:
To fully take advantage of this dps wise, you'd have to farm up those Fire Leaves (aka new Flame Caps). It's probably gonna change but on Beta there are very very few nodes of these. But either way, this does seem like a lot of extra farming, or maybe not extra, for a 2-3 AP boost over the others.
Mining:
This being a 500 HP boost means no real dps benefit. So not for the min-maxer.
Skinning:
25 crit rating seems decent. But it's probably only at half of what it needs to be to be equivalent to the 64 AP standard. But, this does feed into LW much more easier.
Alchemy:
64 AP flask bonus and double it's length. So this is good for money saving, probably wind up using half the flasks. But looks like for mixology, it only works for flasks that you know of. I wonder if something like Marks of the Illidari will pop up and they won't be affected by it. If that's the case then probably not a money saver.
Enchanting:
64 AP bonus to the rings on the dot. Nothing else that special that would benefit me.
Jewelcrafting:
With 3 BOP better than epic quality gems that can help with socket/meta bonuses, seems to only come out to a 62 AP bonus. So a bit less than the others. Gets you trinkets too, but probably only good to start off with and replacable via raiding.
Inscription:
Another straight up 64 AP bonus.
Blacksmith:
2 extra sockets, and at the Epic Gem quality level that's 80 AP. Above the rest, but epic gems might not come out til a few patches. Definitely won't be able to use any of the armor it creates. The weapons, maybe. In TBC they kinda died by T5, no upgrade path after that with Hearts of Darkness or Sunmotes. So, long term wise, this could still be a possibility to change to. Would have to mine on another toon and or buy ore probably.
Leatherworking:
There was a recent buff to the enchant bracers AP version, so indirectly nerfed this bonus down to 64 AP with the rest of them. So far drums seems to have disappeared so it's the only bonus. Can hope for BoP armors and stuff, and they'd probably be more of use.
Tailoring:
The only thing to consider is that cloak enchant (and flying carpet). Worked out to be a 50 sec internal CD, which works out in the end to be about 46ish AP bonus from normal enchants. So not as good.
Engineering:
There's the BoP helmets of course. And the haste glove enchant which seems to work out to be probably worst off than normal enchants. So yea...
So for me to switch over, definitely need to find a boost. The ranks to me are probably:
P.S. Color coded for the ADD readers.
Wow, no more extra glyph for
garreth — Mon, 11/03/2008 - 13:03Wow, no more extra glyph for Inscribers?!
:( What do they get that's as cool instead?
Well, it technically never
saedo — Mon, 11/03/2008 - 13:26Well, it technically never existed even on Beta. It was just the talk and they didn't go through with it.
They get shoulder enchants, special BoP ones that are better than what everyone else gets. And offhands.
So far it looks like they're really trying to balance all the profession bonuses. For physical dps, that number seems to be around 64 AP give or take. Casters seem to be mostly at 37ish SP.
P.S. Guess you finally read this post when I updated it with all the formatting? lol Not getting the extra glyph isn't new news. lol
The new text boxes work
garreth — Mon, 11/03/2008 - 13:28The new text boxes work ;) Color > Attention span!
Changing in next patch:
saedo — Sat, 10/18/2008 - 01:00Changing in next patch: Enchant Bracers - Greater Assault now enchant bracers to increase attack power by 50. (Up from 38)
Dang, that means the relative value of the Fur Lining for LW goes down by 12. So it's benefits are only an additional 64 AP. Which I guess makes sense, pretty much same as the other professions.
Now I'm wondering if I should keep LW at all or go for something else. BS seems to be well ahead with its bonus. Prob going with that unless they change it too. Now to decide a 2nd one.
Assuming my druid remains a
Mavandon — Thu, 10/09/2008 - 14:42Assuming my druid remains a tank in wotlk, I may drop Alch for Leatherworking. The bracer attachments seem like they would pay off more than the health bonus would. Of course, leveling leatherworking again sounds painful.

Wolfie — Thu, 10/09/2008 - 19:08also not nearly as profittable if leatherworking continues to be nearly useless for producing money.
