The HaT Experiment

saedo's picture

saedo — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 11:41

So Shinz and I went HaT to exploit the bug:   http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije

What is it is, like where's what HaT is supposed to be doing:  "When anyone in your group critically hits with a damage or healing spell or ability, you have a 100% chance to gain a combo point on your current target.  This effect cannot occur more than once every second."

So it's the parasite build, where we're highly dependent on group composition to get our dps.

Normally, as it says, we should get 1 combo point, per crit, per person, per at most 1 second.

With the bug, it goes, 1 combo point, per HaT rogue, per crit, per person, per at most 1 second.

Just one thing added "per HaT rogue" and this changes it big time, so each party crit, instead of just 1, we get 2 with me and Shinz.   More with more HaT rogues.     So we were both almost instantly getting 4-5 combo points every 2-3 sec, which drove our playstyle to do basically nothing but spam Eviscerate (can SnD/Rupture too inbetween).      As you can see on parses, it'll be 50-60% of our total damage.

Our ideal setup would be BM hunters, their pets trigger it too.    And then probably other hunters, Enh Shamans, Fury Warriors, Mages, Pallies, and the rest.

Also, a bit of a confession.   Some of you might have experienced extra lag that night.    That was probably us.   This bug has been known to cause raid wide lag.

Anyways, some boss by boss analysis:

Anub:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=15312-44550

  • A bit of a prob with target switching, but wasn't all that bad as long as Lumi kept critting for us

Faerlina:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=70374-97931&m

  • The target switching was mostly in the beginning

Maexenna:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?a=xf130003e50000065#break

  • This is the first where we can mostly sit and spam.   Though we did get web wrapped once or twice.

Patchwerk:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=203187-248762

  • This is where we shine without special boss mechanic buffs.     About 6K dps for both of us, and that's what we expected.

Grobbulus:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=264242-317119

  • Running around for injections probably cost us

Gluth:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=318203-356465

  • Another sit and spam, and also used a weaker poison to tranq him

Thaddius:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=458291-511349

  • This is where some of the lag could've started being fatal.   I nubbed it and missed the jump too.

Noth:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=522629-539437 and http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=548293-564166

  • Except for add phases, and when he blinked around, we prob did decent

Heigan:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=578517-607698

  • Guess ranged wins during dance?

Loatheb:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=613862-667487

  • This is where the high crit buff feedback really drives us up.

Razuvious:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=733359-777784

  • One or the other died in this fight and now we see how unbugged HaT performs.  lol

Gothik:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=842654-854631

  • We really had to keep the groups together and not split on different sides.  It's not a range issue, but a dps activity issue.   Since with the blink to once side, only part of the group was able to dps at any one time, til the end.

4 Horsemen:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=894500-928633

  • Looks like we did fine dispite all the target switching

Sapphiron:   http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=929737-995344

  • Only Lumi wins

Kel'thuzad:  http://wowwebstats.com/dcqryvsym2ije?s=1011843-1074114

  • Got good dps time on him

Well just to add on Malygos

saedo — Thu, 12/18/2008 - 03:34

Well just to add on Malygos and Sartharion to round up all the raids:   http://wowwebstats.com/p42nwpksb4w6i

Though the kills weren't really perfect for HaT bugging, here's the sense I got out of it through all the attempts.

Malygos:

  • Phase 1 is perfectly fine.    Phase 2 is trickier.  Once on the discs and lords are down, depending if people are running around or not, crits just don't come in as fast.   Probably lack of pets too.

Sartharion:

  • If it were just Sartharion it was fine.   The first Drake was ok at first too.    But towards the end, it seemed pet deaths, I assume it's harder to keep up, and such drove the crits down.

I don't know what other

Tankard — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 15:18

I don't know what other classes crit rates are, but in Naxx last night I was critting 40% of the time (more on some bosses) and my pet was critting 15% of the time.  You might want to put me with the rogues.

I checked last nights

Tankard — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 15:36

I checked last nights parses.  Hunters are by far the best option to stack with the rogues.  It's not really crit percentage that matters, it's crits per second.  Mages have a high crit percentage but their casts take longer.

So going by last night

saedo — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 17:45

So going by last night assuming relative equal dps times these are the number of crits people made:

  • Saedo - 6478
  • Lumi - 5743
  • Onrique - 4357
  • Shinz - 4289
  • Derch - 4289
  • Throttle - 3762
  • Nuitarin - 3073
  • Hbk - 2577
  • Garreth - 2224
  • Judge - 2223
  • Shihli - 2205
  • Rupta - 2038
  • Karvinen - 1941
  • Quisjaa - 1893
  • Orky - 1682
  • Antiquite - 1617
  • Tankard - 1535
  • Poisondonut - 1511 (86% presence though, so projected about 1757)
  • Zildo - 1264
  • Pudo - 1099
  • Luczilla - 920 (62% presence, so projected about 1484)
  • Deje - 777
  • Grasen - 517 (12% presence, so projected about 4308)
  • Nettibbeb - 516 (34% presence, so projected about 1518)
  • Katibug - 501
  • Starshift - 244

So this would basically be our order of preference to exploit with HaT rogues.  =)

starstalker — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 23:02

For the hunters and warlocks, are the pets crits lumped in with the masters numbers?

Yes, I added everything

saedo — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 23:21

Yes, I added everything including heals, spell casts, even if a healthstone crit (though not sure if they actually counted).

Yup.   3-4 HaT Rogues + 1-2

saedo — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 16:54

Yup.   3-4 HaT Rogues + 1-2 BM Hunters = HAX!

Preferences are basically classes that can attack a lot, crit a decent amount, and have as little down/cast time as possible.    So hunters and their pets are usually best.   So long as the hunter is able to keep it alive and attacking.  BM hunters best among them cause you can bet they'll want their pet and they generally have faster attack speeds.

Love the bug, hate the

garreth — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 12:44

Love the bug, hate the lag.

If there's any sort of argument FOR keeping this in-game, it's that it can't really be exploited in PvP.  Unless it's a 5s team that's all rogues.  Wow, that would be nuts...

Unfortunately they lose to the 4 Ret Paladin 1 Holy Paladin team HBK are talking about forming. And Yes Blinded by the Light would be the team name.

Even with all 5 rogues it'd

saedo — Wed, 12/17/2008 - 13:05

Even with all 5 rogues it'd be hard to pvp for the sake of this bug.   You need a semi-constant flow of crit damage from the others for it to work.   That that prob won't happen with resiliance and CC's around.

Anyways, Ghostcrawler has acknowledged the bug.  No word of a fix yet though.
