KITTEN BRIGADE WANTS <YOU>! (Particularly if you're a mage or a druid)
Shihli — Tue, 06/30/2009 - 23:44
As the title says, Downfall's Kitten Brigade 25man Ulduar raid is looking for a strong mage and a druid! Preferably a resto druid. And realistically, if you're interested, get in touch anyway.
Kitten Brigade is gunning for hard mode content, both in current Ulduar progression as well as when 3.2 comes out in the next few months. We're not recruiting a 3k dps mage or a druid that doesn't know the difference between Lifebloom and Lifeblood. We're looking for a mage and a druid that are absolutely dedicated to excelling at every facet of their class, are willing to take criticism, and above all - understand that they can always improve.
That said, if you're interested and you have the chops for Ulduar hard-mode progression, feel free to speak up in here anyway! For too long we've had people floating along, content with easymode content. Now's the time to prove that we're a hard-mode (or hard-core, whatev') raid, and now is YOUR opportunity to show that you've got what it takes.
Reply here, or find me and/or Garreth in game, to voice your interest.

Just got myself tier 8.5 this
pulga — Tue, 07/07/2009 - 21:16Just got myself tier 8.5 chest this week, gemed enchanted and all.
I just completed my nobles
pulga — Mon, 07/06/2009 - 15:51I just completed my nobles deck. I also did that regeming. I have the enchants for 32 ap to boots. I can't find the link for the mats for haste to cloak (wowdb is just showing the scroll). Adding 10stats is my last priority since it costs the most.
Edit: found the enchant for haste. Got the mats for that too. Also, should I pick up the valor boots? I'm thinking yes, but I don't want to go out and spend my badges without confirmation first. I'm still a bit green with theorycrafting on DKs, especially since Blizz was stupid with the implementation of the various specs making different stats good for different specs.
Edit Edit: I have +10 stats now.
"...especially since Blizz
Drewsta — Mon, 07/06/2009 - 17:48"...especially since Blizz was stupid with the implementation of the various specs making different stats good for different specs."
Probably best idea they ever had actually.
"Edit Edit: I have +10 stats now. "
Glad to see you took my advice and got it done. Keep those dailies up and maybe a drop will get you rich.

^^ Rawr... If you already don't have this, i's a tool you haven't been utilizing and thus have been gimping yourself. ALL 80 DK's
Assuming you are applying to fill my shoes, without trying to talk myself up, they are decent sized shoes. I come prepped as hard as I can each raid I attend doing whatever I can to hold my own ground in raid. I should hope you do the same if you want to become a consistent raider.
I have checked out that
pulga — Mon, 07/06/2009 - 17:59I have checked out that EJ page before. As for rawr, I haven't used that yet. Downloading now and hopefully I can figure out how it works.
I know yall are looking for
pulga — Sat, 07/04/2009 - 06:24I know yall are looking for someone to replace turth. I just installed Windows 7 on my older desktop and framerates seem to be better across the board. I have yet to test it on a 25 man, but based on what I've seen, I should get a good enough framerate to be able to do 25 mans on it. I know I currently lack the gear to be able to do some of the 25 man hard modes, but I was a dps for getting down some of those 10 man dps races and remain around where our other 25 man-geared dpsers were if I remember correctly. With a week or two in a 25 man raid, I bet I'll get some gear to make my dps set that much better.
Notes for Pulga
Shihli — Sat, 07/04/2009 - 19:25Looking over your dps set, Pulga ... I have many concerns.
1) You're exactly 200 points ABOVE your necessary hit cap in a raid environment. Even counting outside of a raid, that's WAYWAYWAYWAYWAY too much hit.
2) You're 58 points below the expertise cap. While this isn't vitally important as an Unholy DK, you should start trying to tidy that up.
3) Why did you glyph for Glyph of Dark Death, when Unholy Blight typically does more damage (even on a single target) than Death Coil does?
4) [Might of the Leviathan] - You don't need ArP, and you don't need the hit. ArP is actually the weakest stat for an Unholy dps DK, except for maybe agility.
5) Why no +10 stats enchant to your chest?
6) Put a prismatic +27 STR gem in your [Flame-Bathed Steel Girdle], and replace the prismatic gem in the yellow socket in your [Legplates of Double Strikes] with a +8str/+8crit gem. You'll get more out of your socket bonuses.
7) [Iron-Spring Jumpers] - you don't need the hit from the boots *OR* the hit from the Icewalker enchant, nor do you need the ArP. Get new boots and replace the enchant with +32 AP - Attack Power does more for an Unholy dps DK than crit does.
8) Replace the shitty gem in your [Valorous Scourgeborne Gauntlets] with +8str/+8crit. Seriously.
9) Get a Nobles card.
10) Replace the +22 agi enchant on your [Drape of Fuming Anger] with +23 Haste - +22 agi adds only about 0.5% chance to MELEE crit (it does not affect spell crit, which is actually important for you) and it adds no attack power. +23 haste ups your white damage and your necrosis proc rate to match.
11) Replace your [Stormedge] with something else, damn near anything else will do. Again, you don't need all that hit or that ArP at all.
12) I'd like a chance to chat with you in-game about a few things as well.
I'll take these in order 1.
pulga — Sat, 07/04/2009 - 20:28I'll take these in order
1. My gear just has a ton of hit. I don't get much dps gear, and what I've gotten has way too much hit.
2. The only real option I have to add expertise is to gem expertise si nce I haven't seen much in terms of side-grades.
3. I noticed I was using DC more the UB, that's all. I could switch around my keybindings and try that glyph. I originally had that when I first went unholy and found that I didn't have that much trouble keeping UB up.
4. I have no other neck piece. I do however almost have enough emblems to get a new one. I had to pick up the tanking gloves first since I'm primarily a tank.
5. Gold is the issue, plus the fact that I hate this chest to death. I did just get a BoE world epic, hopefully that nets me 2k or so.
6. I'll do this once I log on again. I did just get the t7.5 legs so I'm planning on swaping those in. Not sure which helm i had on when you armoried me, but I have both t7.5 and t8
7. Again lack of seeing anything drop, but I think I have some valors stored up.
8. I think I just never seem to see that gem on the AH when I check it, and then forget about it. Thanks for reminding me.
9. I'm two cards shy, should be able to get it once the BoE sells and the fair pulls into town.
10. Will do
11. The only other weapon I have is The Jawbone. It does add expertise though, so I'll try that out.
12. I should be on Monday, but I'm not 100% positive on this.
Most of the issues with gear is that the couple of times that I've filled in for LF1M/KB and dps stuff dropped, I couldn't roll on it since I was brought in to tank, and I've been tanking for the most part, so I really just take what I can get.
Response for Pulga
Shihli — Sat, 07/04/2009 - 21:52By the numbers again :)
1) That's fine, and I know you can't be choosy yet, but you've got to tone down the +hit/ArP.
2) Never gem expertise, it's never worth it. Just get expertise as it comes on gear, it's not that big a deal for Unholy since spells (Death Coil, Unholy Blight, Gargoyle Strikes, Icy Touch, etc) cannot be dodged/parried.
3) You do use DC more than Unholy Blight, this is true. Look at it this way, you've got two choices:
- a) NO Unholy Blight glyph - Over the course of three full rune cycles (60 seconds), you use the following abilities: Icy Touch (3x), Plague Strike (3x), Blood Strike (6x), Scourge Strike (12x). Total runic power gained: 375. Unholy Blight used once every 20 seconds, leaving 255 runic power for Death Coils. Given typical GCD and rune restoration time, you can use non-rune GCD's about 2-3 times per 20sec cycle. One of these is spent on Unholy Blight every 20 seconds, leaving you a total of 3-4 Death Coils per minute.
- b) YES Unholy Blight glyph - same abilities used as above, same runic power gained. However, Unholy Blight is only used once every 30 seconds, leaving you 1-2 extra GCD's per 20sec dps cycle for Death Coils.
Compare the two - which would you prefer ... the extra cooldowns allowing you to do two additional Death Coils per minute, or 15% extra damage per Death Coil?
Keep in mind, it would take a grand total of SEVEN extra Death Coils per Unholy Blight for the damage to come out the same (100% extra damage from Death Coil).
4) Fair enough. You still don't need the hit from the badge neck either though.
5) That chest is providing you with most of your expertise at the moment, I wouldn't toss it away except for a T8 chest.
6) Generally speaking, here's how I gem my crap: for RED sockets, Bold Scarlet Ruby. For YELLOW sockets, Inscribed Monarch Topaz (+8str/+8crit). For BLUE sockets, I use a Prismatic +27 Str Bold Dragon's Eye.
7) There are some decent craftable boots floating around. You can also try and do some PuG Malygos shots or more Naxx25, but Iron-Spring Jumpers just aren't made for you. So long as you keep them, DUMP ICEWALKER.
8) I can cut any and every possible gem a Deathknight could want. Seriously. I made sure of it. Just ask me to cut gems when I'm online.
9) Finish it soon, like within the next week or so. Darkmoon Faire is in Mulgore starting Monday, I think.
10) Just as a note, that's your BiS cloak (by and large) unless you can kill Algalon.
11) Might want to consider using The Jawbone then. Stormedge isn't much higher dps, and the stat benefits from The Jawbone could easily make it more dps.
12) We can do it thru PM's as well.
IF you have any to spend you
Keisjaa — Sat, 07/04/2009 - 23:03IF you have any to spend you could probably buy the T7.5 legs token & use those instead of the legs of double strikes(it'd give you your T7 2Pc and swap ArP for Haste)
Sadly does nothing for your massive quantities of hit tho, having looked at the gear you've obtianed it seems like you've managed to pick up every pce of decent gear with hit on it. I guess that's the joys of Random loot

garreth — Sat, 07/04/2009 - 12:27Windows 7 allows for a much more efficient use of video cards through DirectX. 25-man raids still need this video performance, but also require much much more raw processing power from the CPU and RAM. Windows 7 can only do so much!
I'm just saying I've seen an
pulga — Sat, 07/04/2009 - 19:04I'm just saying I've seen an increase by 20 fps in 10 mans, so i'd figure a 10 fps increase in 25 mans, which would mean that I would have enough of a framerate to actually be able to hit all my gcds, get out of shit, etc.
Edit: Also my video card was top of the line back then, and can run forgot the name of the game that's rediculously graphic intensive. And my processor was also the best you could get. It's really a nice rig, and ran everything in BC on XP perfectly fine.
I'm very interested. Really,
carno — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 19:57I'm very interested.
I've been raiding Friday nights with my brother who is only able to raid Friday nights and Sundays. Committing to KB I wouldn't be able to do that anymore, but, I'm going to see if I can convince his wife to let him raid another night (too) :p If anything, he's ready for ulduar anyways and malt is now every-other-week.
Updated: I realized armory had feral gear and just relogged. Gloves are new and need enchanting and I now have an eternal belt buckle for another gem. I'll likely be changing out meta-gem depending on what I read on EJ (I haven't OOM'd for weeks). I've run all of the current content (10 and 25) up until Hodir (ie, the easy ulduar bosses). I've not yet gotten a Sarth3D kill. I'll be respeccing for nature's grace and reglpyhing before any DF raids. I've got 9 conquest badges and 27 valor badges depending on what drops in the next two weeks. The badge upgrades I can get now are all tradeoff upgrades whereas the ingame drops are much better and I could then use badges for tier upgrades.
The above is to answer questsions I would have if I were looking at a resto druid for raid.
Feel free to pst blue or torvo about our raiding in Ulduar (I've raided with them last two weeks).
In most cases I would give > 24hr warning of missing a raid. Those cases would be the obvious ones (family, work).
-Carno/Ness
Carno, thank you for stepping
garreth — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 12:54Carno, thank you for stepping up to the challenge. I remember you healing quite well in BC and I'd like to bring you to Yogg on Monday. I'm excited to have you in raid.
I would have an interest in
Karli — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 12:40I would have an interest in acting as a fill-in for raiding, knowing full well that preference would be given to someone who has better attendance and/or gear.
However, I would hope that concerns about knowing how to play my class and learning strats wouldn't be an issue since, although I do have a history of going splat, I've never had trouble learning fights or excelling at the intricacies of my class.
I am undergeared, however, I have about the best gear I can have given the lack of consistent exposure to 25 man content at this point.
In short, I am interested in helping you guys out, and if you can't find a better option than me please feel free to send me a tell in game and more likely than not I'll be able to step in. I have no illusions about what your long-term needs and goals are, and in no way would be offended by any sort of "oh Karli, so-and-so just logged in so we're gonna have you step out." My son is FINALLY on a sleep schedule (halle-fricken'-lujah!!!) and I miss raiding, so it's worth putting myself out there =).
Can you commit to four nights
Shihli — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 14:36Can you commit to four nights a week, four hours a night?
be available
moriella — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 12:57I would like to see karli as a fill in. It wouldnt take TOO many nights as a fill in before she was geared enough to do dps race fights. We need more available ppl like this!
All I would ask is that if you havnt recently done the research and spreadsheels on speccing and gearing your class (much has changed) is that you immediatly get on that so you are specced properly and have the correct dual spec available for some fights as well.
in short, if you are up to speed on the theorycraft and you can
we can get your gear pretty quickly. Players who can do the above listed things are what we cant find. It would be nice to have you as an option
Thanks for that comment
Karli — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 13:38Thanks for that comment Mori. And I do agree with you that the base skills of raiding in general are certainly worth a lot. Any nub can snag gear, but it's take a bit more than that not to fuck things up when it matters =).
In response to just getting myself up to speed for gearing and new class mechanics, I have been visiting the EJ website a bit more in the last month or two and currently am using a cookie cutter FFB spec and glyphs for raiding. I have gear (albeit blues mostly) for raid bosses that put me at the hit cap for this spec, and I have set up item sets to switch between gear when I have a shaman and/or spriest/boomkin in my group (i.e. needing less spell hit). I am aware that FFB is not the highest dps spec, however, it's best for my current gear as it is the most mana efficient. I am very competent in the spell rotations for this spec.
I am already exalted with a few northrend factions, going with the most important first (Kirin Tor, Sons of Hodir) so I can get the proper item enhancements for my class. I am at revered with all the other factions as well, and continue to work on the rep every chance I get (which is generally every day). I have a good chunk of gold too so I'm not opposed to shelling out for better gems, enchants, etc.
I have maxed Enchanting with all recipes, I am 449/450 tailoring and have crafted what epics I can make on my own (Deathchill Cloak, Spellweave Robe/Gloves). I have maxed cooking and have almost all the recipes, I can fish up the good stuff for mage-friendly food, and I can make Heavy Frostweave Bandages to take care of myself in a pinch. I have 2/5 Valorious Frostfire (Shoulders/Pants), the Heroic badge off-hand and trinket. I had the Titansteel Spellblade and the Titanium Spellshock ring crafted for me. I have a "stamina" gear set that is low dps but good for when it's a fight where staying alive is more important than pew-pewing.
I hope that gives you a good idea of where I stand; even I am a little surprised by how generally prepared I have been able to get, all things considered =).
Ima run you through armory
saedo — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 13:56Ima run you through armory like an app!
That's all I got. Assuming your 2nd spec is the raid spec. And maybe you have other gear? Seems to get you at 12.57% hit at most with buffs and precision.
Right now the armory is
Karli — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 15:01Right now the armory is showing gear I was wearing to grind lvl 70 heroics with Kybosh's priest last night. I do have different gear for some of those slots with more +hit. You are right that I do need to get a belt buckle and change up some enchants. Please check my armory again some time tonight when I can log out wearing the "right" stuff. Lastly, you can click on my secondary spec to see where my talent points are. I run around as full fire when I'm soloing these days.
BTW, icewalker is the way to go for caster boots.
Armory is current, just
Karli — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 11:44Armory is current, just checked it at work. Raid spec is activated (please feel free to pick it apart), and "ideal" gear set it on. I have 266 hit in this spec, which is 3 over hit cap for when I'm in a group with a boomkin or spriest. I also have another gear set made up where my hit is at 340, which is 1.5 (technically 2) under hit cap for no boomkin/spriest. Just takes the touch of a button to switch.
Waiting for Raynegrey to mail me back a Runed Scarlet Ruby. There were no cut ones on the AH last night after I bought my belt buckle. =)
Doesn't a meta chaotic gem
saedo — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 11:58Doesn't a meta chaotic gem completely trump any other helm? The 3% more crit damage is something that scales very very well. I supposed you'd lose the hit, but might be able to make it up elsewhere? Like with gems if anything.
Yeah my helm is number 1 on
Karli — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 12:13Yeah my helm is number 1 on my list of "things that really need upgrading". It's got a crazy amount of hit on it though, and that's kind of hard to give up. The only other helm alternatives I have are level 70 epics with 13 or 21 hit.
I could craft up a [Hat of Wintry Doom] rather easily to switch things up and put a 14 or 16 hit gem in it (the int would be nice as a socket bonus but not necessary). I'd have to switch around a few other gems too to accomodate for the 2 blue gem requirements, but that's not a big deal.
Other than that it's just to keep grinding away and try to get in to as many 10/25 mans as I can. Wintergrasp is always an option too, but I had planned on buying the trinket before I went for anything else.
I was just thinking that even
saedo — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 12:14I was just thinking that even your T6 helm, or some other level 70 one with the old meta is better than anything without. But if that crafted one is better, go for it.
FYI:

I don't know how this takes gemming in to consideration, but I think after gems are put in the [Hat of Wintry Doom] looks like the best bet.
From the looks of it, it
saedo — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 12:27From the looks of it, it doesn't really consider gemming. Just "number of slots" as part of the score.
What of Rawr? Still good for mages or no?
Yes definitely still good for
Karli — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 12:39Yes definitely still good for mages, it can be a tad buggy though. The one major downside to Rawr is how long it to complete an analysis because for someone like me, there are currently a lot of restrictions for how I can obtain gear and so getting it to spit out an ideal set that is realistic for me to obtain is kind of a pain. But yes it is still helpful.
Checking again.... Belt:
saedo — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 09:50Checking again....
Ok will check later. BTW,
saedo — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 15:16Ok will check later.
BTW, Tuskarr is run speed (+stam) and I <3 run speed. But yea, icewalker for straight dps.
Question for you Karli
Shihli — Wed, 07/01/2009 - 15:05Can you commit to four hours a night, four nights a week?
Saying you want to fill in is fine, I have no qualms with that. But right now we're not actually looking for fill ins, we're looking for 100% hardcore hard-mode raiders.
You have asked me twice which
Karli — Thu, 07/02/2009 - 11:50You have asked me twice which causes me to believe this is some sort of sticking point to you. I request that you go back and re-read my initial post, as I believe it states my position clearly.
This thread was posted on the guild website, and I can only assume from that that you were willing to consider guildies to fill this vacancy. The original posting said "We're not recruiting a 3k dps mage or a druid that doesn't know the difference between Lifebloom and Lifeblood. We're looking for a mage and a druid that are absolutely dedicated to excelling at every facet of their class, are willing to take criticism, and above all - understand that they can always improve."
If you don't think having me around to step in on occasion is going to meet your needs, I guess that's fine, but I'd ask you to consider not "throwing out the baby with the bathwater."
Again, I am willing to help. I have no grand or unreasonable expectations. I was just throwing out the possibity for your consideration, and if you want to "consider elsewhere", it's your raid and you certainly can do what you want with it. I just figured it was worth offering you another option.
