Run WoW Faster, Stay Online More Consistently
garreth — Fri, 10/09/2009 - 12:14
Every time one of my raiders DC's it pisses me off. When you commit to a raid, you commit to BEING ONLINE and doing your raid job. When I raid with people I can't count on - whether it be to them personally or to their technology - it's a slap in the face of all 24 other people waiting for them to get back online or whom are wiping due to that person failing to DPS, heal, tank, etc.
As such, I feel that the following two items are imperative to dependable and high-performing raiders. We should ALL run this, it's very simple.
This is NOT an addon. Leatrix Latency Fix simpy runs a script on your Windows machine that adjusts your network settings from a measured, corporate networking model to a more intense, faster gaming model. I've run this on a dozen WoW computers and the results have been quite positive. Latency has dropped, reliability has gone up and performance for these raiders has improved. I can wholeheartedly back up this simple script. It even comes with an "uninstall" feature to put your computer back the way it was, if you ever need that for whatever reason. Also, if you play WoW on a home network that other computers are on, I recommend you look into:
- QoS for WoW
Quality of Service is a setting on your ROUTER (NOT your Windows machine) that allows all WoW traffic on your network to get HIGHER priority over other traffic like torrents, YouTube and all that spam your girlfriend's malware-infected computer sends out.Not all routers support QoS but most new ones do. You simply go to the QoS (sometimes called "Gaming Settings") settings of your routers admin page (usually located at 192.168.1.1, you'll need your login credentials, sometimes blank works, other times admin/admin) and set priority for WoW's port: 3724. I think EVERYONE should run Leatrix Latency Fix. I think that only slightly techie folks should run the QoS config. Really only mess with QoS if you have people on your networks who engage in internet activities that disconnect you from WoW (HI ORKY, LOOKIN AT YOU!). Let me know how this works for you guys.

apologies if this was
Kwondre — Thu, 10/15/2009 - 11:38apologies if this was answered, but the Q&A in the latency fix page says this is just like the TCP ACK fix, which i believe I've already executed on my comp...the one people say was just a "phantom" latency fix...what's different about this one other than it is packaged in a script?
Also, if I've already done the TCP ACK fix, and i install this leatrix fix, will I run the risk of screwing something up?
It's the exact same thing.
saedo — Thu, 10/15/2009 - 11:44It's the exact same thing. It's just dumbs it down so the script file does it for you instead of having you follow step by step instructions on your own editing that registry file.
So if you run this, all it'll do is overwrite what you did before, giving you the exact same results (assuming you didn't screw it up before).
knowing me...that is a

I finally got into my router
Closer — Tue, 10/13/2009 - 09:11I finally got into my router today and changed my settings. I can't wait to see how my game plays in raid tonight. The whole leaving username blank and putting admin in as the password worked on my router so thanks for the info.
This is how I take over over
garreth — Tue, 10/13/2009 - 13:53This is how I take over over open access points and make them give me priority in my neighborhood!
It's also how TJ-Maxx got
Dufe — Tue, 10/13/2009 - 15:23It's also how TJ-Maxx got hacked in what was (at the time) the largest breach in history. Lucky for them, Heartland stole that trophy last year.
that one always threw me off
Elapsed — Tue, 10/13/2009 - 09:19that one always threw me off with some routers. I change that user and pass right off the bat when I get access to a new one
I have been trying to access
Katibug — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 15:53I have been trying to access my linksys router at 192.168.1.1 but it only comes up with a blank screen. When I try 192.168.0.1 I can't connect to anything.
Any idea what the address to a WRT54G linksys router is and how to get past this blank screen?
To check what IP your linksys
starstalker — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 21:53To check what IP your linksys is at, open a command line and do an ipconfig, the gateway will be your router. If its not responding, then try to reset it.
unplug the router and plug it
Elapsed — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 18:00unplug the router and plug it back in, even with the latest firmware on my WRT54G I still find myself getting a similar issue. it is often fixed simply by rebooting the router
It's also possible to set it
Dufe — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 16:52It's also possible to set it to only respond via SSL. You could try changing the "http://" to "https://".
or just reset it and use 1.1
Desteran — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 16:18or just reset it and use 1.1
Hm, I'll look into this when
Katibug — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 16:50Hm, I'll look into this when I get home. I did see someone said something about multiple computers on one router having issues with QoS...confirm or deny?
I haven't seen any issues
Elapsed — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 18:01I haven't seen any issues yet, however I only got to raid 2 nights with someone else playing wow as well. The connection worked great for both of us. My buddy craig is on Vacay atm and wont be back till wed for us to try out the connection again
One of the ugliest sites I
Desteran — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 16:16One of the ugliest sites I have ever come across on a goole search says
192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1
192.168.2.1
192.168.3.1
192.168.4.1
192.168.5.1
As a side note, if 2 people
starstalker — Mon, 10/12/2009 - 15:51As a side note, if 2 people are connecting to WoW from the same connection, QoS can (but not always) cause problems. If you and someone else game from the same connection, play with this first.
if it weren't for the QoS I
Elapsed — Fri, 10/09/2009 - 22:45if it weren't for the QoS I would still be DCing constantly, works amazingly

i used that program and improve my lag slightly.
i disable my firewalls from PC and my modem, but dont have QoS on my modem.
It's not a router. Those are
saedo — Fri, 10/09/2009 - 12:50It's not a router. Those are only in play if you got multiple computers in your home and all want to connect to the same internets (and each others).
ohhh ok, thanks saedo
