The most powerful film I have ever seen...
poisondonut — Wed, 04/07/2010 - 16:53
So, i recently watched quite possibly the best movie I have ever seen about life, love, and everything. I thought initially it was going to be a horror film, but I was dead wrong. This movie is called "Antichrist", directed by Lars Von Trier and for those of you who have netflix, it is on instant stream. You owe it to yourself to watch this movie if you have any shred of humanity in you. It is a powerful, life-affirming film that grabs you by the hand and takes you on a journey you will not soon forget. I still fall into deep thoughts recalling this film, and It has affected me profoundly. Whether you believe in God, or you are an atheist, this film will force you to take a look at yourself, and how you fit in the world. I love this film with all my heart, and I will probably watch it over and over for many years to come.
Also, this is definitely an adult movie, so watch it after the kids are asleep. I have never felt so passionately about a film as I do about this one, and I think you will all be thanking me when you've seen it. It's like a dream you hope will never end.
Some reviews of this film have been mixed, but I urge you to stay away from reviews until you have seen it first and judged it for yourself. You won't regret it.

I'll say this about the
Derchlon — Mon, 04/26/2010 - 18:03I'll say this about the movie: It tried to be very artsy, and to a degree it pulled it off. There were several "WTF!!!" moments, but not the scary kind, the "I can't believe I just saw that" kinda way.
The fox was creepy as hell
And I found the whole nature of the movie changed at the Gynocide chapter. Then it gets fucking psycho.
My biggest gripe was the ending which made no sense. I think this movie would be fantastic to give to an english class, and tell them to disect it into its various motifs. Although this movie is not for the weak of stomach, there is some really graphic things depicted, one of which really freaked me the fuck out. I physically cringed at the mutilation part, PD will know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, interesting film, and I see where you mean "fountainesque feel." It's just not my particular kind of film.
GET TROLLED!
poisondonut — Mon, 04/26/2010 - 22:04PD wins the troll war! So yea, me getting you guys to see this movie was a total trolling on my part. I don't think its a great movie in any sense of the word and the director is out of his mind. Even he has said that he can't explain what the film means. Roger Ebert, the great film critic of the Chicagon Sun Times, did a pretty fantastic job of reviewing the film and putting it into a perspective I hadn't thought of before, here's the link for those of you who have seen it http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091021/REVIE... That might help give some meaning to a film that otherwise might be labeled "torture porn". I think his take is pretty spot on, leave it to Ebert to make sense of a movie that literally had me cringing and wishing I had not seen it.
Just don't ask your girlfriend to "pass the firewood"

poisondonut — Sat, 04/10/2010 - 16:48check it out if you get a chance, I highly recommend it. It's got sort of that "Fountain" vibe to it, but it gets more intense.
