Raid Experience:

fresh on the raiding scene as of Burning Crusade. ( I was still in school) since then, I have gone from casual to what I hope will become hardcore raider. RAID EXPERIENCE: Ruins of An'Qiraj - Cleared several times (post 70) Karazhan - Cleared several times as tank, heals, melee and caster DPS. Gruul's Lair - Cleared numerous times as melee and caster DPS and Off tank Magtheridons Lair - Cleared a few times as add tank and melee/caster DPS Serpentshrine cavern - once at 70. Melee DPS Lurker and that giant dude with the deadly water bubbles. ZA - Few times at 70 as tank, caster and melee DPS (full clears, never successful timed) no amani bear. QQ Vault of Archavon - Every week as Caster DPS, Melee DPS, and until 3.1 tank or secret tank (melee DPS that shifts and saves the day if needed) (also have not cleared the new boss yet with any pugged group) Obsidian Sanctum - Every week as most or all roles listed above. only experienced with zero and one drake strategies Naxxramus - several times as Melee and Caster DPS. a few times as Main tank and off tank. KJ died a lot. Eye of Eternity - a couple of times on each of my toons. caster and melee, healing drake and DPS drake. 1123 and 33335

Am I allowed to sign up for all the stuff posted on the main site? I've been reading a lot of other stuff and it looks like a lot of the other apps have been going to main raid content. I'm just mildy confused because I thought Torvo's raid was the "audition" raid, so to speak.

If I can come and show more people my stuff that'd be great to know and I'll start putting my signup on more events, lol.

You can sign-up for whatever you think you are qualified for. I would speak with one/two of the guild mages for recommendations on what raids they think you might need prior to pulling into KB/Salmon (or if they think you are ready).

The more you sign-up, the more you become known, the faster you get in the guild (or get your app closed for being a douche...... hehe)

Beyond that, just make sure if you sign-up you CAN and WILL be available. If you sign up for Ulduar 25 with guild, don't get yourself locked to another guild b/c you didn't get in when the raid started. They might call on you later in the evening b/c of a failadin or something.

talents look good. I would suggest that you look into TTW/FB once your gear can support the hit rating required (341).

Your rings and neckpiece have mp5 on them. mages benefit from spirit as crit rating. we gain no dps increase from mp5. If these are the only rings you had a chance to win, then I suppose its better than nothing, but you should really try to pick up rings/neck with crit haste, spirit haste, hit haste, hit crit, hit spirit in that order. mp5 is worthless. I know there is badge gear better than this.

You have a nice main hand weapon. Unfortunately, you have an awful enchant on it. I understand that at this point you may need the hit rating to reach cap, but you should really try to find a piece of gear with hit so that your weapon can have 63 spellpower on it (or 50 if you cant afford the mats yet). this will be a significant dps boost.

by gemming for spellpower/hit on your yellow sockets (3 of them) you can drop this terrible weapon enchant and get 63 or 50 spellpower. do it!

gem choices. you have green gems in your yellow sockets. ouch. you should always Always have an orange gem in your socket (rare cases where red gem is actually better). go with 9 spellpower/8crit. crit and spirit gems suck.

I see you have a spellpower enchant on your gloves instead of your engineering enchant. All of the math suggests that your on use haste effect enchant (340 haste for x amount of seconds) is dps wise a much better selection. If it is an issue with you forgetting to use the haste effect, create a macro with your main nuke spell.

I'd like to hear why you chose certain gems and your ring/neck selections as well as reason for weapon enchant. Other than that, looks alright.

I'll try to answer your questions as "in-order" as possible.

I'll look into other spec possibilities later, right now FFB is working for me quite well.

as for rings and neck, no there are NOT better choices from the badge vendor (in my personal opinion) the reason they have mp5 instead of spirit is because I won them before the sexy spirit change. when spirit was still just petty Mp5 for a mage. now that spirit is sex in a can, I will be actively trying to change things out for things with more spirit on them.

I disagree with your assessment of my weapon enchant. you're basically telling me to shuffle the stats that I need to keep anyways. (drop the hit/crit here and drop the spell power there and switch them...) this might make more sense from your perspective so if I have something wrong, please clarify instead of just telling me X-enchant is better than Y-enchant. 25 hit and 25 crit is awesome for my already crit-heavy FFB build, but hey, I'm open to suggestions.

I took the 2 green gems because I needed to meet my meta-gem requirement. pay attention to those little details before reprimanding my selection. (feel free to point out any blue sockets in my equipment I overlooked on my gear) Although the Belt pris socket is an obvious choice that I may look in to when I upgrade something.

when it comes to gloves you are absolutely right! I will get around to putting the haste buff onto my gloves ASAP. thanks for reminding me. XD

finally, as far as gear "selection" in raids that aren't as structured as the Furious Loot System, it comes down to "WHAT IS AN UPGRADE NOW" kind of thing. if it's an upgrade you should roll on it, no questions asked. when the opportunity shows itself I'll side-grade to more optimal stats.

(my neck upgrade is pending an EoE run (BIG THANKS TO EP1 Raid) and other than that...

yes, there are better choices from the badge vendor. You either didn't look and assumed I was wrong, or you looked and didnt see the upgrade. I dont know which is worse. there is 1 ring that is better, its called "band of channeled magic" this ring has haste and spirit. spirit= crit, so this ring has haste, crit, and regen. How is that not better than your crit mp5 ring?

Your weapon enchant is bad because all of the theorycrafting I have done says it is bad. 25 hit rating can be easily replaced by some spellpower/ hit rating gems. 25 crit rating is nice, but it's not 63 spellpower or even 50 spellpower nice. Remember, even if your spec is crit dependent, your single most important dps churning stat is spellpower.

For metasocket requirements, I understand the choice in green gems, that doesnt mean they arent horrible gems though :( just that you really had no choice so it's understandable.

One thing I'll say is I'm glad you are staying current with your app, and hope you are open minded to the suggestions I've made.

Lastly, if you have questions about what is an upgrade or not, use a program called rawr, it is invaluable for mages to min max their dps.

wow, once again you are absolutely right. I looked in to that ring. I went wrong when I had assumed the whole ring thing. I was still going off of the pre-patch set up as far as spirit was concerned.

I still have some minor disagreements about the weapon though... mostly because it's like 13 extra spellpower even though it's a shuffle, but that's a large amount of crit (25 crit rating) to be giving up just to gain it back as pure spellpower... but since you seem so sure I'll give it a try. T_T

This is one thing I am goin to stress again and agian, to all mages. DOWNLOAD RAWR!!! Do it now. It SHOWS you what gear is better then what you have. It SHOWS you how to enchant your stuff. It SHOWS you the gems you should be using. It SHOWS you what are upgrades and where they drop. It SHOWS you the best talent specs. It SHOWS a mage EVERYTHING they need to know.

If you've been reading Elitist Jerks, they reference Rawr all the time and even have a post directly on s.etting it up correctly, and apparently Manly (the one that does all the mage calculations for EJ) is a codesigner for mage RAWR. GET IT AND LEARN HOW TO USE IT!!

There is no reason for a mage to guess or speculate what he should be gemming or what gear he should be using that is available to him. RAWR tells you EVERYTHING!!!!!! I'll admit that at first it is a pain to get used to, and not all the tooltips on the trinkets and what not are correct, but they update it all the time. It is well worth the download.

I think Dragon's shown me everything I would want to see for him to earn an invite. His DPS has consistently been at or near the top of our EP1 charts (parse from last week: http://wowwebstats.com/6pfjovisqhss1), he has a great attitude and acquits himself very well in raid. He's willing to do whatever we ask of him, and brings more to the table than just big, pretty numbers.

He's also shown, through his involvement here on this application, that he's got the right approach to continue growing. Learns quick, plays nicely with others, and improves week over week. Count my vote as a yes.

I agree with torvos assessment. From a guild app standpoint he is I think the most ready at this point of the apps we have dealt with. His knowledge, understanding and personality are all great. I go out of my way to make sure that he is always signed up for our raids because he is fun to raid with, there is never any QQ's out of him and he pushes all the other ranged dps to kick it up a notch! I cant wait to see him in guild.
